The S70 came in a few days ago… with a grey switch too.
I forgot about the battery indicator light so did not worry about it. Now i am - lol.
I won’t get mad about it though. Still a very good value light.
Now if i can fix that easily…
This replacement switch cover is approximately 10mm x 8mm, whereas the original cover is approximately 10mm x 6mm. Not an exact fit (see pictures below), but works just as well as the original as far as operating the switch is concerned.
The slightly thicker flange causes the switch retaining ring to stick up about a half-millimeter more than the original. Because the retaining ring does not snug completely down to the flashlight body, there is a slightly increased risk of water intrusion via the threads. I would recommend against intentionally dunking or using this flashlight (with the translucent switch cover) submerged underwater.
Before and after pictures of the switch (like night and day!):
You can use a pair of long-nosed pliers, snap ring pliers, or tweezers as a tool for removing the retaining ring. It is not screwed on very tightly. However, be very careful not to scratch the anodized finish of the flashlight or the retaining ring.
I have never tried sanding down silicone rubber. I would imagine that it would crumble after a short while.
As for slicing and dicing, I wouldn’t attempt to do so with such a small margin for error. I prefer a uniformly thick switch cover than an irregular thin one.
Besides, the amount of work needed to shave down the translucent switch cover wouldn’t be worth the effort, for me anyway. Aesthetically, it makes no difference to me. And as far as water resistance is concerned, I’m not certain that it makes any difference. I’m just being conservative in recommending against submerging the flashlight.
To slim down the silicone rubber boot, place it on a very hot surface and press it down with the retaining ring while dragging it in a circular motion. It should melt away the extra silicon, I have done this with a black rubber boot, but the clear one may have higher heat resistance.
Also received S70 today, not really that impressive as I hoped to be, seems like all the hype here got me carried away.
Gray switch cap sucks bigtime :person_facepalming: , now I have to contact thorfire for replacement :disappointed:
I hate short and simple sentences, takes a long time to get to the point :weary:
If you bought it from Amazon, Thorfire will handle the issue.
If you bought if from Banggood, you’ll need to register your complaint with their customer service “[link]”:Login & Join free .
I initially contacted Thorfire two weeks ago and was directed back to the vendor, Banggood. I filed the claim with them last week. They asked for a video on Monday. I haven’t gotten around to making the video, yet. So, it’s still an ongoing process for me.
My s70 only lasted 5 seconds before going out and never coming on again. I contacted thorfire and got nowhere. I then contacted banggood twice and today they asked for video, of what, a light that that does not work. I do not want a refund, I just want to ship my bad light back and have them send me a good one back. Why is this so hard?
DOA is rare as I remembered Thorefire did take extra time to QC the second batch. I did forward your issue to Neal recently, let see what he can do for you.
The LED status button suddenly became the most important "feature" of S70. Should I be sad, since >90% of my collection does not come with such feature?
Just FYI, I had the same issue with TWO S70 from Amazon in a row (new version with grey button). Light worked for a few seconds then went DEAD instantly. Problem seems to be the tailcap, used my multimeter to measure and no matter how often I click the tailcap button there is no power flowing from the spring to the silver contact ring. Connecting the battery to the battery tube with a wire makes the light work instantly.
K.
Exactly same as mine, cannot get any thing on the tail cap with DMM but paper clip on battery and body and every thing works fine. I also think it’s the tail cap that is bad. BUT and a big BUT at that, I’m new and don’t know nothing about flashlights!
Did not want to start new thread. I received my new (replacement) S70 from BG and this one has a clear cover on it just like the original( mine was grey) one. Is mine an old version or did they go back to the clear version  :+1:
