I’d tell you how to cut those threads if not for the fact that I think you’d be wasting your time with an 18350! But seriously, it’s just a standard metric thread with 1.5mm pitch. Pay no mind to the flat at the root and you’re golden.
I might as well make bodies and tail caps tho after I get the heads out there. Full hosts, one piece at a time. :smiling_imp: I messed around with a couple of patterns the other day:
I have Sinner EDC lights in triple format with 18350’s, and my Cu X5 Quad runs on the 650mAh 14500 just fine. Something about a very compact but seriously robust light that get’s the giggle going for me…
I like this, similar to the vague idea I posted in the S2 pill thread, but actually designed properly. And the C8 would be a better platform for something like this than the S2/S2+. So I am interested in one of these.
The M2 might be another one to look at for a custom triple head. Bigger than the S2, but still more pocketable than the C8.
The M2 appears to have square threads, which I can’t presently cut due to tooling limitations. Convoy C8 V2 / V3 is nice and cheap, has a great finish, a thick tube, and I can cut the threads. The tailcap end might be a trapezoidal thread though, it is hard to tell, but no matter in this case, and no matter if I made a host from scratch since it wouldn’t need to be compatible.
I’m interested in Khatod version. I’m a little concerned about it being real top heavy. I’d like to see lots of very deep cooling fins to help lighten it up and aid in cooling.
Will, the M2 threads don’t look like that at all in the photo from MTN’s product page. I suppose that’s the tailcap end though in MTN’s photo. Anyways I’ll look into the M2. It’s a good suggestion. If I do an M2 head I think I would like to change the design so that it looks more like the stock M2 head, kind of like how my C8 head looks like the stock C8 head to an extent. Sure, it’s not particularly original, but it’s going to make for heads that look like they are meant to be on there.
Doubtful. I am not sure there would be widespread appeal since it’s a $30 flashlight that isn’t available as a host and the stock head would be ditched to make for a light that’s otherwise pretty much the same as a $12 Convoy C8 host in this context. On second thought, yea I’ll cut you one if it’s got triangular threads. I am ordering a XinTD C8 anyway soon to see about making some copper heatsinks for it, and because I want one.
It should be fairly balanced with the thick C8 tube and tailcap and an 18650 in there. I think you’ll still be able to put it on your dogs nose for photographs or illuminate the wire during your tight rope act or whatever you need to do. The head is not large so there can only be cooling fins as allowed by the available dimensions of the head unless the head is made bigger. A bigger head with bigger fins is going to be heavier, conflicting with your weight concern, unless it is made from aluminum.
