Nobody wants the new Maglite 6D?

Borts signature is a breath of fresh air. It is sunshine and rainbows. The problem is that 4MB is massive for slow connections, and since images load all at once, even repeat instances of a single image, a couple of posts by Bort in a thread and it becomes unavailable to anyone with a slow connection. Even decent DSL connections can’t cope with that.

Sure, it’s a problem with the forum code. There should be restrictions on signature attachments.

I have a 6 megabit DSL connection about the slowest DSL available, i had no problems, images get cached after they are loaded once, and many BLF pages have images in them, which add up to a lot more then 3 pictures.
Browse a few pages on BLF and you will get to more then my pictures were (and they were not 4MB each).
Again i apologize for linking to large pictures and that has been fixed.

Yes, it’s great that you fixed it. I certainly appreciate it.

Since you feel the need to argue the finer details of the situation, I’ll point out that your images probably would never completely load for someone with a slow connection; they would abandon the thread before that ever happened. If they were willing to wait for the images in the OP of a thread to load, not only would they have to wait for those to load, but all instances of your 4MB signature as well, since they all load simultaneously. If you posted 3 times that’s 12MB on top of the OP images that they have to load, which they wont.

6mbit DSL is the fastest you can get ’round these parts unless you are in a spot where Comcast offers cable internet. 1.5mbit is pretty common, so a thread with 26 megs worth of images would take several minutes to load.

I’m still here.

My signature had about 4MB of images total, not 26MB, not 40MB.

Around here what i have is the slowest, i did not know 1.5 megabit existed, though it would not be horrifyingly bad with my images.

Yes, much better. The look and feel of the signature is the same, but the page loaded in a fraction of the time it used to. Thank you.

Wait a minute. I miss so much! So we took a thread about 6D Maglites and turned it into a thread about how bort is abusing the power of the internet? What the hell is wrong with you people. I cannot believe how easy he has been about putting up with it. Kudos for him. I personally would have told the lot of you to kissmyass.

We should take responsibility for your Internet connection, or lack thereof? Get real. It's your responsibility to either load or not load photos with your connection. Get real! He resized them, now you want them to disappear just because you don't approve? Get real people!

Edit: My apologies for how rudely I posted. I got some very bad news from my doctor today and I have seemingly altogether lost it today and for the near future. I usually don't go off on tangents quite so badly, but I'm not removing it, because the essence of it was true.

Thanks for the tip Bort, I’ll keep an eye on it. I really should bag it up with some desiccant and put it somewhere safe.

Thanks
I don’t enjoy arguing with people but i don’t like being walked on either.

I’d be lying if i said i had not thought about saying the same thing but decided against it.

Give an inch and people want a mile (or ten)
I understand slow internet is a fact of life for some, but politeness about problem doesn’t cost many 1s and 0s.

Make sure there are no batteries in it except when in use, Duracell (and others?) used to replace electronics damaged by leaking batteries, not sure if they still do but of course you want to prevent any damage.

No one was particularly rude to Bort.

The fact is that the internet is a shared space. A democratic experiment of grand form, and with it there is a certain etiquette not unlike interacting in society, but with a technical spin on top.

Back on the subject I would put 21AA in it since that would only over voltage it by .2 volts. No one is making real D rechargable batteries now days and I don’t need a new charger.

Very sorry to hear you got bad news O-L. Thoughts and prayers going out to you and your family.

Please understand that the post above yours has the quotes manipulated to make them sound totally different. Just read my post and compare it to that post to see what I mean. I do agree with what you said though.

The Internet is a grand place
With all of us vying for space
And so we must learn
To give all a good turn
As we add to the huge database

All this knowledge we now can embrace
As we navigate in cyberspace
If our minds we unite
We will gain new insight
Into making this realm a showcase

Though it’s happening at a snail’s pace
We are changing the whole human race
And we all can foresee
Just how great we can be
If we’re careful how we interface

some of us would prefer a REPUBLIC of grand form, lol.

in a true “democracy”, its about the same thing as “mob rules”. Where the RABBLE gets whatever it wants that day, just because it wanted it.

in a REPUBLIC? your vote or opinion MATTERS, but… to prevent the “mob” from doing something unwise just because it “can”? LEADERS are in place, entrusted to make WISE decisions, and, to balance what the mob wants against what might be best overall for everyone.

==

we have a leader, isnt it “sb” ?

i’d say we have more of a republic than a democracy… and thats its a good thing.

and if the guy with the pictures in his signature, decides to make them as BIG as he can, just because he can? it will be a certain poetic justice.

==

on the internet? rules and guidelines are laid out… and every man is his own king, free to do what he can within those limitations. Come to think of it? i wonder how big of a picture of my CAT i can put in my siganture… i normally dont have intricate coolness signature lines, but… maybe the time has come…

Rechargeable Low Self Discharge NiMH are available from MAHA, also known as Powerizer. They carry the name Imedion.

At $30 a pair, filling that tube will be pricey, but they hold a charge very well, have excellent capacity, and will last a LONG time!

If anyone knew the amp draw, and had access to a discharge graph of those cells, one could extrapolate a runtime. Would be a loooonngg time. Can you imagine trying to carry that thing though lol?

ETA: Wonder if there’s a runtime graph floating around? With it being a Mag I’m guessing it’d be a long slope.

Well, as long as we’re pouring money out of a boot…

I found a $15 PR-based LED upgrade from Sears (can’t find one now) that is rated for up to 9v. That makes a 2C w/ 3*CR123 into a really useful tool. And it gives a lovely White light. It doesn’t correct Mag’s wide-beam problems, but it will most definitely extend any batteries in a 6D.

Let’s see… 6D Mag, ~$25, + bulb upgrade, $15, + assuming 2x LSDs per D, (30*6=$180!!) means $220.00 gets you a great huge log (that no longer makes a decent club) with a pretty white light with Mag beam defects, that will let you forget the last time you charged your batteries… If you went to 3x LSD per D (which I believe will still fit), you’re up to $310.00 and maybe your kids won’t remember when dear old Dad last recharged the batteries…

I think I’m starting to see a possible answer to the OP question here…

Yeah, a few of you really were. Not to mention dissing the OP by hijacking his thread.

Those of us who understand that “technical spin” just adjust our Browser Cache setting and move on.

It’s a simple thing, really, showing your brothers and sisters the same respect and courtesy you think you deserve…

Are you still surfing BLF on a Commodore 64? It's time for an upgrade, friendo.
