Wow this is really cool! A custom hot rod modded light from the factory! This is outstanding for the people that want a modded light with out all the cost or hassle (waiting in line) of having one done by somebody or the cost of the equipment! Direct from the factory, I like it! Here’s one for you “J” and 2 for Simon!!
To be honest, I don’t know how it would perform, I’m just afraid it won’t do its job sufficient.
For us blf’ers that’s not a problem since we can mod it. But for the rest of the buyers that don’t know what modding is it isn’t an option.
So let’s say I rather be on the safe side.
Nevertheless, I’m really happy that Simon went this route! Can’t wait.
Thanks KawiBoy. Without you and others like you to answer my questions on the technical end this would never have happened. As you pointed out, some of us absolutely love these hotrod lights yet don’t have the budget, equipment, skill or time to mod lights ourselves.
This and any other light can be made better or more to specific tastes by a skilled modder. That said, I’m happy to be part of bringing lights that are at least close to modded lights performance-wise to the people in my boat at budget prices.
I will ask Simon but to be honest this is not an ideal light for 18650s as they would be drained very quickly. The XHP70 is quite power hungry and we are feeding it well with this high current driver. I would recommend investing in a pair of hi-drain 26650s for this one.
Nah, that’s not wrong. What’s wrong is when someone posts some exciting pictures of a fantastic new waffle recipe they found and someone follows it with a post that says “I’ve always preferred pancakes”.
Oh well… The L6 sounds like it’s gonna be my third XHP70 light in six month… after the Fandyfire and the Thorfire.
The S70 will be hard to beat at 4k lumen plus the other goodies. Can’t wait to see how the L6 will come out. Both look very similar with the side switch.
I know it, but I have a lot of 18650-s and 0 26650-s now. Just I want to try it before I invest in a lot of 26650, and maybe some other 26650 lights. I’m happy with small and single cell lights until now
Not including adapters is no big deal. Adapters to use 18650’s in a 26650 light are available many places. Fasttech, ebay, …. It may be best to not offer them with the light as many users are not going to use them anyhow.
Can confirm. I have an XHP70 in an S2 pulling 7.4A from two 18350s. Even with a 10 second step down on the FET driver, a 30 second run dragged the batteries down to 3.79V from 4.2V….
If it doesn’t come with adapters, a quick, cheap and easy fix is to cut a piece of poster board paper. The width of the paper should be a little bit less than the length of the tube. Wrap the paper around two 18650 and roll them up tight. If the resulting tube is too big for the 26650 tube then cut off a little and roll it back up. Tape it once you get your desired inner and outer diameter.
I started doing this with DST mods as an impromptu spacer, but it worked great so I’ve made 3 or 4 other ones for Maglites and such.
Edit: grabbing a pair of matched 26650 cells is definitely a good idea though.
Any suggestions on where to get a decent-quality, budget-friendly set that will work well in this light? I’m assuming moderately high drain capability is preferred, and button top is a requirement for this series arrangement, but most of the cells I’m seeing (illumn, liion wholesale) are flat tops. Richard has a few button tops, and of course anything coming from his shop will be solid! I’m just wondering if there are other reliable button-top options out there, especially for those of us whose flashlight budgets are about to be stretched by an XHP70 Beast…
