Klarus G30 Batteries & Mixing Batteries Safe???

I'm waiting on my klarus G30 from Gearbest (hopefully it doesn't come broken...) and I just realized I don't have any extra batteries for it. Does this flashlight need high drains or will protected cells work fine. Also I have 2x MJ1's and 1x NCR18650B's. In general is it safe to put different batteries, rated at different discharge currents in flashlights?

Have to be matched cells. Same brand, model, and charge the batteries should be. Others know if they should be protected or not.

Best is to have “matched” cells, if not then protected cells (and expect to not get everything from all the cells)

This is not a good light to run marginal used laptop cells in, but if you know and have matched resistances in the cells and all are charged the same way at the same time, it will probably work with out catastrophic failure.

Do not run unprotected cells of widely different charge levels, VERY BAD JUJU

It is a 3S light so you want to use matched cells.

The Panasonic/Sanyo batteries seemed brighter to my eyes for some reason. I bought a new set of three for this light and I will be buying another set of three as a backup set. I’ll label them as sets and run them solely on my G30

Hmmm. I found some 18650 Sanyo NCR18650GA 3500mAh High Discharge Flat Tops so I think I'll just use those. Looks like unprotected cells are fine for this light.

I use NCR18650GA “unprotected” in my G30, it works fine.

Running button top unprotected 30Q in my Just arrived G30. Seems a nice light.

Klarus G30 uses 3S (3 Series) batteries.

Series can be dangerous.

The batteries must be closely matched. Same band, model, capacity, same age / wear (internal resistance) and of course, same voltage. The batteries should always used together, charged together and stored together. This is so that they age together and keep a similar internal resistance over their life.

With series cells it’s much easier for things to go very bad. If the cells aren’t matched then one cell can be “reverse charged” by the others. The cell can vent violently and in a sealed flashlight the pressure can’t get out. There is a real risk that your flashlight can explode. Seriously. Solarforce exploded (3 series cell flashlight)

I would strongly advise against unprotected cells in a series light, such as this Klarus G30.

I recommend new matched batteries with quality seiko protection. Evva or keeppower. Out of all the brands that use seiko protection, those two have the best prices.
Since you are in the USA, I’d suggest Mtnelectronics. All of their protected 18650s are Evva (with seiko protection). mtnelectronics 18650s

The rest of your post suggests that you meant 3S.

I’m using these til my NCR18650GA’s arrive, protected. These 30Qs are my only matched set atm…thx for the good advice!

Unprotected can be OK but don’t allow the cells to get low. That will give you some safety room should one cell become weaker than the other(s).
