Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Any suggestions on where to get a decent-quality, budget-friendly set that will work well in this light? I’m assuming moderately high drain capability is preferred, and button top is a requirement for this series arrangement, but most of the cells I’m seeing (illumn, liion wholesale) are flat tops. Richard has a few button tops, and of course anything coming from his shop will be solid! I’m just wondering if there are other reliable button-top options out there, especially for those of us whose flashlight budgets are about to be stretched by an XHP70 Beast…

1” Sch 40 PVC water pipe makes excellent spacers to adapt from 26650 to 18650. 1 1/4” Adapts 32650 to 26650. Easy enough to get PVC pipe, or should be.

And yes, 5+Amps should be good for 4200 lumens or so, perhaps a bit more.

KeepPower flat tops stick out enough to stack.

Purple Efest 4200mAh 40A IMR26650 seem to work fairly well. About $10 per cell. I’ve done minimal testing, but they seem to be better than 30Q’s.

I would probably avoid Basen cells. Way too many variables have been discovered with them.

Vappower 4200mAh 26650 look like they’d be great based on HKJ’s testing.

Hopefully this will be available in the usual tint options

A couple notes:

  • The L6 will not come with 18650 spacers for the reasons previously listed but a bunch of members stepped in with easy to obtain spacer options.
  • As far as tint options, last Friday Simon said only the N4-1C is available right now but he will try to get more tint options. I’ve asked to at least try to come up with something around 5000k for a decent neutral option.
  • A few people asked if the L2 tubes will work with the L6. I can now confirm that yes, they are compatible. Same threads.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Simon did a runtime test last night. The L6 in turbo ran for 80 minutes on two KeepPower 5200mAh cells at which point he describes it as very very very hot. :zipper_mouth_face: This of course was indoors with no air circulation so in actual outdoor use the heat should be much more manageable. More testing results will be posted when they are received.

Many thanks for the updates. Looking forward to the light. Compared to “that other light” I prefer the looks, but more importantly something else than cool white (ugh!). Hopefully, Simon will succeed in getting a NW option

If the driver survived the entire turbo run then it’s really good news  And at 5A+ there’s no reason to mod… This could be my only fully stock Convoy light!

+1 will, and I don’t have but a couple of stock lights!

I’m in no rush, either.

My budget is shot to h*ll. I’m going to have to sell some flashlights or watches to make up the difference. :confounded:

If we keep getting lights like this, I won’t need to revamp all of my old Mag-Mods… But I will of course.

Thanks for your efforts to get a neutral tint. Not sure if I’ll purchase without it.

Subscribed… I bought some extra 26650s when I ordered the Cometa and this would be an excellent use for them.

Great news.

I won’t mind waiting for a neutral tint emitter.

Thanks for the answers! I definitely going to buy one
And I placed the bug in my friend ears so he will also. He wanted an L2 but I told him: Hey there is an L6 nearly coming!

I find it impossible to buy any light, to be satisfied and not want more.

Totally agree with you. I started a cheap ebay light, then another, and the first Convoy the C8 changed everything. Now I have 14-15 led lights, who knows

That’s my story too. Started with a couple SK-68 clones, then started scouring “the bay” then getting tired of finicky flickering lights I ordered my first “real” flashlight. Like you it was a Convoy C8. Things haven’t been the same since. In the last six months or so I’ve given away 14-15 lights. It’s like a sickness… I bright shiny sickness. I haven’t actually gathered all my lights in one place and tried to count them in a long time but the number is getting up there…

I clearly remember showing a light to my neighbor in his girlfriends presence. She asked “How many lights do you have?” I said 29. She asked “Gosh! How many lights do you NEED?!” I said, without hesitation, 30.

Now I have 140 plus and more incoming. Go figure.

Huh, just had to show the wife this, she now understands how far I got to go yet!!! She said your crazy, I told her your beyond that, you are totally MAD!!!
