Defiant 2AA ArmorMax Quick Mod, Blowout at Home Depot

Picked this up at Home Depot today at the reduced price of $4.53 so it should go to a penny soon.
Born on date was 2.8.2016
Has an emitter that says Cree on the base, but I am skeptical that it is real as the tint is purple.

Had a solid base to mount the emitter however and has double o-rings at both ends of battery tube.
3 Mode, H,L and fast Strobe. Resets to high after 5 seconds.
Anyway I modded it, put this XP-G2 Warm tint emitter in it with 24 gauge wires ;

These emitters are a Best Buy for what they do.

I added an R33 resistor to the driver. Now pulls 3.14 amps on startup on new alkalines and settles at 3.0 .
Also braided the driver spring and soldered the brass cap to the spring.
Driver presses in. My driver had some potting on it on the coil.
This flashlight uses the same driver as this Defiant that Old Lumens reviewed here;

(His Picture of driver);

It has PWM in Medium mode but now with the bump in amperage and the warm tint she is a nice knock around light. I put the rubber bumpers on and it is going to do garage duty.

high;

Medium;

For less than $5 with an upgrade that only cost me $1.58 I’ll call it well bought.
This light will not show up on Home Depot’s web site because it is discontinued, so you will just have to look for it.
Thanks!
Keith

Muto,
I’m not seeing your picture :nerd_face:

working on it, thanks
Fixed now!

Nice mod, pics, and info. Thank you.

The guru’s working on developing the boost drivers may want to know what current you are getting to the emitter.

I have one. I’m debating a buck driver so I can run 2x14500 and a nichia 219c d320

+1 on this. Its a terrific mod. Thanks for posting it up.
