Astrolux M01

My preorder is in too for the Nichia. Very pretty torch that I just don’t need…….

Just preorder one (Nichia) too.

I hate Banggood… I promised not to buy any flashlights for the next two month.

Preordered one of each :zipper_mouth_face:

Edit: I already have a Black Water Kite al and it came with a black 10180 battery with 100mAh (I guess it will be the same that you will get with this Astrolux M01). I also ordered some of these and even though they are rated at 70mAh they last longer and the light seems to be a little bit brighter with those. They are cheaper at Gearbest…

I have the CooYoo-something, and there is no protection in that I think, as I’ve ended up with one battery totally flat in that… but then again, I ordered 5 spares for $1.50 each or something like that at Gearbast, so not a huge deal. I’m considering getting one of these with the Nichia…

The batteries are not protected and I’m almost 100% sure that the light won’t have a low voltage protection, too.

About all 10180 that I know: batteries are always not protected and flashlight not low voltage protection. All are the same: DQG, Coyoo, Veleno, Astrolux…. Is not a problem.

For this price, M01; Stainless steel, rechargeable, battery included…. Is a really good offer.

I preordered one anyway for the Nichia. It’s the smallest high CRI light that I’ve come across so far. How can I say no?

Now, if only someone would make a Nichia zoomie flashlight…

How long until we get a copper version?

I was not going to buy any more lights. But I really need  a light with a Nichia 219b!

I thought it looked nice, so i ordered one with a Nichia…

Now I hate buying lights that don’t have Nichia’s.

It’s very hard for me to say no to a Nichia flashlight. I was wondering, should we make a list of Nichia high CRI flashlights? Or would that cause some of us to spend even more than we need to???

M01 seems to be very popular. Already 130 preorders at bangoods.

Is it a bad assumption to think that all nichia 219B’s are all high cri .?

Yes.

Wait, then should I be concerned that this Astrolux M01 did NOT advertise the Nichia’s CRI value?

Since the battery is not protected and the flashlight does not cut off below a certain voltage, is there any cue as to when the battery is due to be charged? A noticeable dimming? Or do you take your chances on running the battery down too far and damaging it?

While it is possible that they used one of the lower binned lower CRI versions, I doubt they used it because the main draw of having the 219B is the high CRI version. But without knowing exactly what 219B they used, it is technically possible they used the lower CRI version.

Other lights in this style are pretty dim at about 2.8 volts. This is a good voltage and you will definitely notice when it’s time to recharge… but in case you forget to turn it off, you will probably damage the battery.

Is the dimming noticeable in low mode as well? If it isn’t it will be quite easy to kill the cell…
M01 specs list low mode as being 8lm so even when it drops 50% it could be hard to see the difference due to eyesight accomodation.

I personally like the idea of 10180 light with internal charging but eagerly wait for good execution because as of now there is none.
Maybe Astrolux M01 enhanced…

There’s simply too many drawbacks:

- no low voltage protection

- low quality unprotected cell

- too high charging current (it would appear all brands use same driver and advertise 1h charge time which is essentially killing cell with ~2C charge current)

- no knurling on the head (being a twisty it would be desired)

  • no tailstand/ugly tail attachment

IMHO M01 is the ugliest of this class of flashlights - mostly due to its tail design. Jetbeam/Niteye MINI - 1 looks better and cost ~$17. CooYoo Quantum SS/Mecarmy have best head design - ie. many axial grooves (more than Blackwater kite) and it looks very good as well. Both Cooyoo and Black Water Kite SS have better looking tail part than M01. Kite even have tritium slot but have ugly head - to me brand logo and font are simply hideous and are the reason alone not to buy. Kite is really bad name for a flashlight as well. Best tail design is present in titanium Coyoo/Mecarmy.

The only advantage M01 have is the Nichia LED but you could always change LED in other brand…
For me to even consider buying ugly M01 it would have to cost 10$.
I would really want something looking like DQG Spy (knurling) but with secondary optics. DQG Hobi Plus is close but lacks knurling and tail standing.
