GB Oficially closed/// Maxtoch 2X Shooter (new version)

One of you guys suggested that I hold out on buying a M24 Sniper because this 2X would be coming out soon. Of course I couldn’t wait and bought a M24 Sniper with the XP-L-HI.
Now I feel like a kid in the back seat screaming “ARE WE THERE YET?”
That’s the problem cool thing about flashlights, there’s always a better one around the next corner and the journey never ends.

robo, I’m assuming 3500 mAh cells were used for the runtime tests. How were they able to provide 4.5A for 70 mins? Thanks.

SCS……to answer your question as best I can……
“robo, I’m assuming 3500 mAh cells were used for the runtime tests. How were they able to provide 4.5A for 70 mins? Thanks.”

With the test I did I did not actually measure the amperage as the cells drained , but the light never dimmed until the cells were at around 2.9 volts and then it went off when the LVP kicked in……poof. This light does use a “buck driver” so the voltage is regulated unlike a DD or FET driver.

I used Panasonic 3400mAh protected NCR18650B

I have been asked a couple of times already, so I will answer the question publicly……….

This IS NOT the SN6X-2X light……this is the 2X Shooter light , they are totally different lights.

There will be no cosmetic differences with the final release of the light from these pictures that I am aware of. The reflector may possibly be slightly different to match the XM-L2 emitter , but it will be miniscule if there are any.

Here are a few pictures of the prototype beside the M24 for comparison……as I had mentioned in the OP , the head and reflector is the major difference in these 2 lights with the 2X having a considerably bigger head than the M24.

Thanks, robo. Also, is it just me or is the brightness difference between Medium and High much more noticeable in the spill than in the hotspot? In fact, on my monitor, I barely can see any difference in the hotspot between the 2 modes.

There is actually quiet a bit more light on high than medium (about 100K lux) the spill and hotspot both get brighter through each mode with the hotpsot being noticeably brighter on high than medium……I will try to get some better shots than I have in the slide show , as it was a little bit hazy when I did those last night and they are not the clearest of beamshots.

I knew I had one more request, what is the ID of the body? I recently purchased some protected Pana 18650GAs constructed with the stock sleeve intact and another sleeve over that, making it a bit wider than its brand name counterparts and too large to fit in some of my lights. Thanks.

Right. The difference in the spill must have drowned out that of the hotspot in the distance. Maybe zooming in on the hotspot will show it best. Thanks.

My calipers are showing 18.74mm on the ID ,Maxtoch did widen the tube by .005 (5 thousands) more as there were some of the cells fitting too tightly in the prototype.

4.5A is the output current to the LED. Since we are talking about 2 batteries in series the current draw from each battery is around 2.25A (this is just a rough estimation, and we have not factored in the driver efficiency loss yet), so yeah 70 mins of continuous runtime on high mode makes sense to me considering the efficiency of these buck drivers is around 70-80%.

Thanks. I had assumed it was a tailcap measurement.

Nice, i presume the tubes will match, the driver will be again 26mm i presume,1s version here we go

Its good that they intent to use dedomed U4, somehow warmer XPL HI tent to die pretty fast( i killed several V2 3B in a row this way, phosphorus starts burning near the + bond wire ) and using cool white tints for hunting isnt serious

As a host version will be a best seller definately, the main issue with those 2s torches is that 22r, .223 , .243 and even 7.62x56 est ca are usualy light rifles( arround or under 3kg), a 400+ gram flashlight debalances it great time

I would like to buy one when possible please

O thats right! I remember reading that they could not take the hi amperage, (hand slaps forehead).
370k lux from 4.5 amps. Very impressive run time that way also.

We tested both XML2-U3 and U4 leds with the 6 amp board and they blew instantly. They are however stable and will run continuously at 4.5 amps. XPL-HI will take the 6 amps but only for few minutes then stepdown needed.

Did several runtime tests for both medium and high modes for new 2X and high (360+k) recorded 70-74 minutes, while medium (260+k) recorded 100+ minutes. Batteries for all testing = panasonic/maxtoch 3400 protected buttontops.

Had some trouble getting one panasonic out of 2X when shooting on friday night. Checked later and other panasonics fitted easily - variation was in the battery diameter from panasonic - not a torch issue. Just something to bear in mind.

I am not a fan now of the XPL-HI. Significantly lower lux output than XML2-U3 and U4 in side by side testing (including tests in same light), and its cool white tint blues and washes out color and picture clarity. We tested a BLF-TE 4.5 amp M24 with XPL-HI at about 250k lux. We then swapped a dedomed U4 into this torch and it improved hugely - jumped to 290-300k lux, and with vastly improved colour/picture clarity. If there are any guys who have bought the BLF M24 in recent GB, get Richard at Mountain Electronics to dedome a U4 and put that into it. Makes a fabulous hunter and superb long distance light.

We tested the BLF M24 with a U4 in it (290-300k) beside this new 2X when it had the 6 amp board and XPL-HI measuring 370k, and the U4 M24 was clearly better past 2-300 meters than the higher lux (80k more) 2X with XPL. That cool XPL-HI beam glares alot more but does not travel as well, and in misty conditions the warmer dedomed U4 is much better at cutting through the atmosphere.

I agree Mitko - I’d say about 400gms is max for a hunting weapon mounted light, so the challenge was for maxtoch to produce an extreme performer at just 300 or so grams. 2X is 308 on my kitchen scales. And achieving right CRI colour faithfulness plus picture clarity down range was a big factor for us - we’ve nailed that pretty well too. Also alot of hunters like long runtimes so we set the mode outputs very exactly for hunting purposes. High mode at 360-370k is for super long range scanning. Medium mode is set up at 260-270k lux - huge performance but with 100+ minutes runtime which is ideal. The medium 260-270k with its much improved color/picture clarity and over 1000 meter range is amazing in the field - was shooting with it on friday night, and I very seldom clicked into high. Low range is set at about 45k lux - ideal for possums up trees - this is for the Aussies and New Zealanders

We keep a close eye on new Cree led products, all the leading torch makers etc and I’d say the new 2X is the best all-purpose hunter light ex factory in the world in terms of specs/performance/quality/price. And right with it is that brilliant little BLF-TE M24 with the XPL-HI removed and a dedomed U4 in it - pushed it up to 290-300k lux. I have both and they are legend…

If I didn’t already want it badly enough

This application is exaclty what it will be used for a lot of the time. Also to piss off people 1/2 a mile away :innocent:

The air was much clearer tonight and got some much better beamshots, The NEW beamshots are now the slide show in the OP if anyone would care to go back and see the better shots. (still not perfect conditions but much better)

This looks great, a light developed for hunters is subtly different to most enthusiasts throwers so this is great news.

Lightweight, massive throw and great tint. Take my money!

Updated in OP also……….

The New 2X hit Aliexpress today. Maxtoch will be doing an “introductory” pricing other than what is listed ($93.50 regular price)from what I understand.
Also I am talking with Amanda at Maxtoch about a possible Group Buy for the forum , so unless you just can’t stand to wait a few more days then here is the link with the regular price.
