Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Packaging looks nice.

I have a BLF D80. And a C8 with XPL-HI and A17DD driver, thanks. I prefer more the look of the L6 then the X6.

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Excellent, can we expect a full review?

+1 I would like to see this happen as well!

me too

I need some time, and to take some pics but absolutely. It out throws the BLF D80 with XM-L2 and A17DD.

Without wishing to create controversy. Out of those who want a particular led tint. I do not understand the much excitement with this flashlight. In my opinion the Thorfire S70 is better for some reasons…

Built-in voltage indicator on the mode button

Big head, throw more.

More accessories included.

Cheaper.

S0S mode. It is always better to have it than not having it, and with more reason when it is hidden.

Sorry, I meant Freeme and the L6.

But if you want to do a review that would be good too.

Well the S70 is the biggest competitor for sure. Let´s be honest both lights will be very similar (and look very similar). Maybe the L6 will probably have a few more lumens out of the box but I don´t expect to be a huge (visible) difference, since many reviewers have reported the S70 goes way beyond the claimed 3000 lumens. it´s also easily moddable (as the L6 will be too of course).

The S70 is more on the floody side, maybe the L6 is more of a thrower. So everyone can pick his prefered torch. Win/Win
I´m sure as soon as the light is available comparison reviews will surface quickly!
K.

:person_facepalming:  No problem.

Did you expect any less? Simon likes to go the extra mile.

The “extra mile” would have a foam top on it as well, protecting the entire light in the box. Just saying!

Looks nice, like the extra size on the head, can’t wait to try one out!

Andrew that’s Simon holding the light, not Freeme. The light isn’t listed for sale yet but it will be any time now. It’s a pretty safe bet that one of the first reviews will be coming from a photographer friend of mine.

Thanks for bringing this up! Right now I’m pretty much trying to decide between these two lights. I sure don’t want to argue with you, but I’m interested in discussing some of the points you brought up, if you don’t mind. Re. tint, I know it’s a big deal to some people, and not a big deal to others. Personally, I’ve found I really like using lights with neutral-to-warm tints, and I tend to avoid lights with cool tints. The cool/blue color is less pleasant for me to look at, generally less accurate at showing true colors, and it also seems to glare more off slightly shiny surfaces, making the light less useful IMO. Definitely an opinion, but it seems to be a common opinion around here, so I’d argue that tint is a pretty big deal when considering excitement about a new light.

Good point, and a potentially valuable feature! Maybe the biggest objective feature in favor of the S70. (Other features, at least those we know so far, seem to be matters of subjective preference.) Point to S70.

Probably, but we haven’t seen side-by-side beamshots AFAIK. Also a matter of preference, depending on your intended use of the light, so not an objective “better/worse” issue. Bigger head might be a downside for some, when considering storage or portability (not that either of these are pocketable lights…) Neutral, no points awarded.

Do we know that for sure yet? Thorfire is definitely great about including useful spare parts, but we’re usually talking about a few dollars worth of extras, so not a huge deal on the scale of purchasing these lights. Potential small point to Thorfire, depending on final offerings included with L6? (Maybe I missed where this was finalized; definitely haven’t seen a side-by-side of included accessories.)

Yes, but only by about $5 after respective coupons. ~9% discount (IIRC) is notable, but for most people a $5 discount isn’t a deal-changer on a >$50 light, if there are other subjective preferences pushing one way or the other. Still, this point clearly goes to the S70.

Eeesh - here we disagree! I’ve accidentally found “hidden” strobe/SOS modes on other lights, and find them useless and distracting. If a mode is so well-hidden such that it won’t be accidentally tripped, I can tell you I won’t remember how to intentionally activate it in some potential emergency situation. Point to the L6 IMO. (Actually neutral, another matter of preference.)

Conclusion: for someone looking only at objective differences, the S70 seems to be a winner, and for many it might be the obvious choice. But there are some smaller subjective differences that are swaying the decision for me, and I suspect for others as well. For instance: I like the size and shape of the L6 head vs. the bigger/blockier look of the S70, I don’t mind a slightly floodier beam (if that’s actually the case), I’d strongly prefer a neutral tint, and I don’t like strobe/SOS modes. I’m willing to pay an extra ~$5 for those features. I’m waiting to find out more about the neutral emitter, and to hopefully see side-by-side beamshots of these lights, but that’s the way I’m leaning. (Again, not trying to argue or defend one “side”, just explaining my thought process!)

Ahh :person_facepalming:  I thought he may have received one early to review.

I’ll keep checking Simon’s store on Aliexpress.

It is already for sale in China. 270RMB, about $42.

Link?

  • A couple s70’s have indeed a voltage indicator but iirc it was never listed as a feature. And the s70 now comes with a dark grey switch cover which makes the voltage indicator useless.
I have to admit, it’s a nice feature.

- Look at my post here: Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast! - #204 by thijsco19.
With the dimensions we have now, this L6 will be slightly bigger.

- Have to agree with you there.

- it isn’t listed officially so we don’t know the price yet, though the price we have now is almost the same.

- imo, I’m glad he didn’t include a sos mode. Though it wouldn’t be a deal breaker if he did (hidden).

For start they have already confirmed they will not include adapters to 18650. In addition, now that I’ve noticed, does the convoy l6 head support for a belt? Seems not, Can any confirm this?. That would be another point for Thorfire, which has the hook, and includes the belt.

SOS is hidden, but it’s easy to find XD. Just need a sustained pulsation. I not like in general this type of modes. But you never know when you will need. So, for many excuses you can put, it’s definitely an advantage to have SOS, being that is hidden of course.
