Edit: As can already be seen, choice number one is going to be the clear winner of this poll. However, choice number one will not tell you anything. So, it will ultimately have to be overlooked and the choice that includes an actual preference and has the next largest amount of votes will have to be the deciding factor.

Yes David, #3, #4, #6 and #7 do feel slightly more important but in the end this is a feeler not a binding election

I wasn’t complaining, just stating my observation! Like I said, I really like the way you did this poll!
But my guess is that the one guy that voted #6 is probably one of the guys that wanted 10,000+ lumens too! Just a hunch.

I put #5, more lumens for less heat with 4 led, my preference
but less cost with 3, especially if replacing the leds, my wallets preference

No, this translates into a feeler if we as Q-Team could maybe change the number of LEDs to 3 to reduce costs and keep it possible to make a Q6/Q8 for the price of $40 including shipping.

With a driver option less cool and versatile then we envision t would set you back ~$100 without shipping so….

So we are making it very hard for ourselves and I wanted to know if there is a little wiggle space to cut costs.

(See how sneaky I add the Q6 as name for a 3LED version, fitting a smaller Q5 (AA sized) and Q4 (AAA sized) and Q7 (26650 sized) right along with this 3 emitter feeler ;))

I voted #6 actually, just because I prefer the look of 4 LEDs, however I would be happy with 3. And I did not actually think about this.

Any clues why as to why choose more/less emitters? I guess overall output doesn’t change so much? Is it the beam pattern? More/less flood?

3 emitter lights are just odd.

(But so are 5, 7, and 9 emitter lights.)

How can I choose without photos of each? I guess I need to rack down photos . . .

The same drive current spread across more emitters would be slightly more efficient because each led would see less current and led’s are more efficient at lower drive currents. Less emitters in the same space should throw farther because they have larger diameter optics and a higher surface brightness due to the higher drive current.

Okay, I went with option #5. I like the look of the 4 emitter reflector and I like the efficiency of spreading the current to more emitters. However, I don’t want to see the price go up as a result of choosing 4 over 3 emitters. It’s a balancing act, for sure.

Hmm… how much efficiency/throw difference can be expected between a design with 3 emitters vs 4 emitters, everything else being the same?
