Kind of learned to avoid cells with **fire on them

Well, while I understand your reservations, not all @#$%fire cells are bad, actually. I am a happy owner of two TrustFire “Flame” IMR14500s, hard to beat batteries for their price.

Did anyone ever thought in setting up some sort of community driven “common fund” destined to help out those willing to gamble on certain products of common interest (like these batteries)?

At least the gamblers could get some or all their money back (from the community) after publishing their dreadful reviews, LOL!

Cheers ^:)

Somebody did that with the G700 SCAM flashlight a while back. You could probably make that happen right here, right now, just by offering to administrate it. People around here are usually quite willing to give $$ to stuff like this, but most don’t want to administrate it.

Big problem with this approach on these bad or no-name brands ---

What you buy today may not be what you buy and get tomorrow

It kind of makes all testing useless, and all money spent wasted - you test from 'A' batch, and looks good, so everybody starts buying, but it's from 'B' batch, which is a different cell, different capacity, different chemistry. Ohh, and it's worth understanding this is exactly how many of these businesses do business today. They put something out on the market of quality with thin profit margins, then after a foothold is established, they suck costs out of the product to clear some profit.

I for one would never go in on a deal like this. We are having these problems with so called name brands, brands we thought we could trust at one point, like KeepPower and EFEST, not to mention some up-starts like BASEN.

I've been lucky too - I've gotten some good TrustFire cells for example, and I also got some bad TrustFires. Are you feel'n lucky?

Well, maybe it would not be a bad idea to ask the usual suppliers for a sample or two of those products which seem a good deal and, after a good review, I bet for sure they'd get their money back with the sales thereafter. Mmm, this is already being done, isn't it?

Cheers ^:)

so true.anyone can buy the wrappers and i assume wrapping up recycled crap and factory rejects is a cottage industry in china.

Funny, EFEST uses 3D holograms on their labels to foil the attempts by counterfeiters, but all that doesn't matter when EFEST themselves mis-label 2500 mAh cells as 3000 mAh cells, as they did.

TrustFire problems were more with counterfeiting, but KeepPower problems I've seen/had was definitely KeepPower's fault to cheapen and downgrade existing models, and EFEST apparently does the same. BASEN has maybe a twist to this - they just wrap anything in the neighborhood of what the label says, so sometimes you get better, sometime worse, could be for capacity and/or performance. Just cheaper for them to use the same label I guess.

What is this world coming to?

"Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!" GhostBusters of course...

Also, very relevant to questionable high powered, high capacity LiIon cells:

"Why worry? Each of us is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back."
