GB Oficially closed/// Maxtoch 2X Shooter (new version)

I just thought it deserved a mention here about some of the testing I have done with the new 2X. I was lucky enough for mudgripz and gadgetman to let me help in the design of this new 2X , so I figured since I had the opportunity and had a hand in the development I also should be testing the light in fairly tough conditions as compared to everyday use.

Since I have had the upgraded model for test and review purposes , I have clicked the switch hundreds of times with it functioning flawlessly as has the memory in the light. I have also given the light a good wrap on my hand a number of times AFTER it heated up well to see if I had any failures or flickering , that also has gone flawlessly.

The last and harshest test I did , and I DO NOT advise doing this to your light , is that I left it sitting in a 5 gallon bucket of water overnight fully submerged with the cells in it. When I took the light out of the water I hit the switch and the light functioned perfectly through all modes. I took the light apart immediately afterwards and found zero moisture inside. I would conclude this should be safe enough for hunting in rainy weather though.

I also borrowed a lux meter from another member in the forum and did some testing on the factory model 2X at 5 meters and came up with about the same readings Dale and mudgripz had with the K lux working out to around the 350K to 365K on the particular factory light I received from Maxtoch.

Overall I would give this new 2X an A+ rating.

I`ve bought from Richard a dozen U4 1A and they perform( at 4.5amps) exacly as good U3s at 5.1-2 amps
Both of those are beaten by at least 10% by V6 1A in any throwing host that i have here( C8, L2, Y3, U818, M2X, M3X est), prolly V6 0D will perform the same , the problem with the last is that i simply cant dedome it properly( same as V6 2D that i have here), either electricaly or chemicaly.

Pretty much along what was found by mudgripz , gadgetman and myself with the U4 as it took less amps to get the same output.

Part of the reason the U4 was chosen over the HI for this light , along with the fact that the CRI and clarity at distance was better with the dedomed U4 1A.

The HI took 6 amps to reach the same 360K average reading as the U4 at 4.5 amps and the U4 does not create the heat the 6 amp HI did , so no step down was needed with the U4 and 4.5 amp setup. The run times are also greatly improved with the lower amp U4 setup.

Was your 350-365k reading for the 2X at 5m or 6m? Noticeable increase from 5 to 6m on all Maxtoch tests.

Right around 350K at 5 meters as it never held steady because I didn’t not have it on a tripod. I had from 1385 to 1425 lux which works out to 346 to 356K lux at 5 meters. Given the increase further back at 10 meters I figure the readings should be at least 365K or possibly slightly higher.

Yes easily 365+k on that. Just keep that meter setting on MAX then you’ll get just one reading from test and and not a range.

Great result with the water test. Will give confidence to many hunters who may have to walk home through bush/across country in wet conditions. IPX-8 water proofing standard explained as follows:

“IPX-8 Protected against water submersion - The equipment is suitable for continual submersion in water under conditions which are identified by the manufacturer. ”

Good quality indicator I think. They do well for a sub $100 torch.

Updates on this light ? Is there a group buy or blf edition happening?
Someone pm me or something when its going down. Been busy as all get out and I’m down to one m24s atm and its still kicking after being dropped from a moving car when it was used to replace a headlight that got smashed by a roo.

We have ‘roos’ over here in NZ too. Someone released wallabies in South Canterbury and up north round 100 years ago and there are big numbers. We shoot them every year. Maxtoch and 243 great for that.

Maxtoch finished with their big trade show, back to business as usual, and new 2X should be back on sale shortly. Then David can plan GB or code discount.

New 2X back into production and on sale with aliexpress:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MAXTOCH-New-2X-Dedomed-XM-L2-U4-LED-1450lm-1200m-Distance-Utmost-Version-of-Thrower-Flashlights/32661379568.html

David can now organise GB or discount for BLF etc - whatever they wish to do.

Remember Maxtoch can include 2 panasonic/maxtoch 3400 protected buttontops in each torch tube with airfreight.

Should be posting details by tomorrow , as I emailed Amanda just a bit ago and I think should have everything lined out by then.

Looking forward to the group buy, think I will get another, this torch is that good

So how does one get in on the GB? Just say I’m in or go ahead and pay somehow or what?
And once ordered, how long does it take to arrive, about 10 days?
Davy

Robo said he would post details tomorrow. They will be coming from China. 10 days if you’re lucky. But count on 2 to 3 weeks. I’ve had stuff take 8 weeks before.

I’ve never had an issue with floody beam alignment at closer ranges but it seems that with this tight beamed light, an adjustable mount might be needed for long range alignment. Just curious what mounts the down under shooters are using.

There are many mounting options that work - on scope or rifle.

This is what I use - a small picatinny rail mounted on scope, and a very tall ring on torch. Quick and easy detach:

These examples are from a NZ site but there are heaps (and cheaper) on aliexpress.

Set torch head back from front scope bell. Beam may reflect off a shiny silencer/suppressor and you may need to wrap it in non-reflective camo or other tape. No alignment issues with beam for us.

When I have the final details there will be a list started for those who want in. We will need a minimum of 50 pieces spoken for before we can get the GB price ( which is part of what I am waiting on) If we keep the GB going until it reaches whatever the next minimum number is ( 75 , 100 pieces , or whatever the number may be) then the price will be reduced at that point again from whatever the original GB price is set at. Once all that happens then a code or Group PM with details , will be sent to the ones on the GB list and the information that is needed and/or order details to get everything finalized and your light on the way.

EDIT: Depending on the shipping method (s) that are made available it will vary by country and by the shipping method as for the amount of time it will take. The M24 GB took from around 12 days up to 6 weeks depending again on country and I think they only had standard shipping available if I remember correctly for that one.

Ok, thanks. Question: I reckon about how many lumens this’ll throw on an object say at
500 yards…100? (guessing)

No idea how many lumens, but at 500 yards whatever you shining on is lit up plenty good

Lumens isn’t what you need to look at, lux is what it takes to see an object. The formula to find lux at a given distance is lux=candela/(distance^2). The distance is measured in meters. In this case at 500m (546 yards) the lux=365,000/(500^2) which comes out to 1.46 lux. That’s enough to see something larger like a tree or building but not fine details.

At 655 yards (600 meters roughly) here is an ATV , quad, 4 wheeler whatever you may call it , with a tan sheet thrown over it on a slightly misty night. In good clear conditions you get even better throw from the 2X.

The target is the light colored spot just to the right edge of the road at the far end of where beam is hitting , as it starts downhill just behind that.
