Cree changed production process for XP-G2 emitters!

What were the XP-G2’s used for in the lighting industry? LED bulbs? I can’t find any info on what they were used in, the lighting industry for?

Street lighting m8, mr16 led spots, torches, DRL car modules….and heavy modded BLF flashlights

I wonder if any could be laying around in some city maintenance building, or lighting supply house, that could be bought and salvaged ? What would I look for receptacle wise? Any actual photo’s of what they could be used in? I have a friend who works for the City DPW, actually he’s the manager in charge of maintenance, if I knew what to look for Why I ask is they just went down my street replacing the very bright blue tinted street lights to a more warmer light, I wonder what they did with the old ones?

Thanks Cula !
I had a triple that i received about 2 weeks ago …
Just did a reflow on a single emitter noctigon with one of the leds .
With a fet+1 driver and one Samsung 30q , it draws “only” 3.3 amps…

Edit :Changed driver’s wires to 20 AWG , spring bypassed driver , and charged my 30Q . It draws about 4 amps now .

Many 10x to MRsDNF :star:

Hot ones, from left to right, S4 2B, S4 2C, S4 1D

The photo speaks for itself i guess…( OT. Samsung S6 takes great photoes realy, never stops amazing me)

Aditional testing in progress

So the 2B and 2C have the smaller die and the 1D is the newer larger die?

Seems 2B and 2C is from the old batch .
But how could we get some 2B ? I would be interested in 10pcs if someone could make a big order , and split them to members .

Very easy to spot difference between them… So yes Mitko’s S4 2B from picture is old batch. New S4 2B and old batch S4 2B are totally different emitters.

I am interested in more than 100 of OLD XP-G2 S4 2B if someone wants to sell me?

Edit: Anyone tried performance of de dedomed XP-G3 emitters? MEM seems successfully de doming them….

Picture as a proof:

If you are interested in a big quantity , why don’t you buy them straight from Cutter ?

I’m interested in 5-10 personally . If someone else from Europe makes an order , contact me please . Shipping is 35$ for me…

This is slightly off topic, but has anyone tried this type of silicone remover to dedome leds?
If I had an xpg3 I would give it a try myself

A bit too blurry picture for definite proof from MEM

I’m really sorry to have so little hands-on time at the moment: I have tested a XP-G3 and did a slice-job, but I have no time now to do the write-up, and to test the sliced led for throw. :frowning:

Thanks Djozz

Nicely sliced.

I am looking forward for your XP-G3 test and my fingers are crossed…

Hope you will find time to test them…

Please test them…

Dear Giorgoskok,

The problem is that we don’t know if they have new or old XP-G2 S4 2B emitters. No one confirmed what batch do they have.

Whole point of this thread is to point out to people that there are big differences between old and new production process XP-G2 emitters. OLDER IS BETTER!

We can only prey that new XP-G3 is decent replacement to old XP-G2 S4 2B:

Mem and Djozz managed to de dome them:

I wasn’t aware of this type of product! Here’s one that’s more accessible for the US:

I may look for this next time I’m at HD.

Sweet! If you get a chance to try this, and it works well, you should add it to the Perfect Dedome thread!

I have posted in other threads that I use this KleanStrip. It’s a paste that I set on top of the led dome. I just used it to successfully de-dome a Nichia 219C. The key is to set a “blob” on top for 20 minutes or so while occasionally swirling the gel around the led. After this time I remove the gel by blowing it off with compressed air. It usually takes a few rounds of this to completely dissolve the dome. I have never had a bad tint shift either, just makes it a bit warmer.

As a side note I was only able to get 140K @ 1M corrected at 10M, from the 219C in my C8. When I put in an “old-style” XP-G2 S4 I got 185K.
I think my numbers could have been better but I may have been “over driving” the 219C with spring bypass on both ends, 30Q cell and MTN FET driver. Thoughts?

I don’t think you’re alone with the 219c, others have had lower throw numbers for whatever reason. It is very possible it was on the downward end of it’s intensity with that FET/30Q setup as well.

I’m very interested in your kleen strip stuff. I just might go get some tonight.

Yeah, here’s a thought. Are you up for some testing on the newer LEDs? Several around here would love to know what you can get from the new XP-G2 and the XP-G3 with your same set-up for comparison to those other two you mentioned. Stand-alone measurements are nice, but comparisons are better.

Edit: Oh Yeah! My local Home Depot has that Kleanstrip Adhesive remover!

219c wont work folks, its just its core is way bigger than S4- same goes for the new S5

meanwhile S4 2C hit 5.2 amps here( on of them, the other 4.5)….202k mcds in a C8 host….pretty awesom….will be awesom too if Cutter responds my PMs…eventualy

P.S
that S4 2C went staight to my .223 hunting M2X and it topped 370k mcds with a fresh VTC5A( it was 340k before that, S2 2b at 5.5amps)
The tint is gorgeous for hunting realy

Sounds good to me. I could use the same Thorfire C8 with AR glass and FET driver for all testing. I have a good dark room that I have measured out 10 meters. The only issue is my funds are a little tight right now. I currently only have a couple old style G2 S4s and G2 S2s. If anyone has a XPG3 or other emitter you want me to test I would gladly test them for you.

Edit: Just saw Mitko’s post so probably not worth the time. Offer still stands though LOL
