Astrolux M01

that looks very nice scrumpypaul!

Cheers Martin - I really like both of them.

How do you reaolder the switch plate? After a week it came loose already. Are the 10180 batteries protected?

No protection on these little batteries.

Use needle nose tweezers to unscrew the module in the head - then it’s easier to re-solder the plate.

i jumped into the mancave and made a short video…
(your questions are answered i hope ;))

Thanks for the video. Gotta say I’m rather disappointed to see how basic the LED driving circuitry is… actually no driver at all, just a resistor for each level. I guess this explains how this light sells for so much less than similar lights like CooYoo but certainly not the best from an efficiency point of view.

thank you for the video

As far as I know every 10180 light has exactly this circuit.

I can’t speak to all the 10180 lights, but I took my Cooyoo Quantum apart to swap to a NW emitter and it definitely had some active circuitry.

Here’s a photo snagged from another thread:

You’re right! I took apart my Black Water Kite.al again and it does indeed look like on your picture. I just didn’t remenber it like that. I’ll do a runtime comparison…

Run time comparison tests would be great……Thanks

And

M4D M4X Thanks for the nice video. Very well made !

Mine is supposed to arrive today if the mailman gets his act together after the holiday. Thanks for the good video M4D M4X!

Hope I can do it next week. I want to do a timelapse video.

Well the mailman came through so I am now the proud owner of an Astrolux M01 with a nichia emitter. I am very happy with this light, it is my first 10180 powered light. I don’t find the threads to be loose as some have reported. The only negative I can report is you have to turn the light much further than I am used to with a twisty to turn it all the way off. It is flickery on low if you don’t turn it on far enough, but once you get used to that it works just fine. Charging with the built in charging port works great. As others have commented, the lens may get scratched in my pocket attached to my keys as the bevel is only raised very slightly. My overall impression is that this is a great light I am happy to have on my key chain!

My threads aren’t too loose, I guess  WTF Astrolux

On this light the switch wasn’t soldered properly, too.
Before

You have to reflow the left solder joint.

After

WOW, my threads certainly didn’t look like that, that’s too bad.

But my switch plate was completely loose, it actually fell off.

After owning all the other brands of 10180 lights I do, I just am not impressed with the quality of these Astrolux lights.

Another thing I noticed the other day was that most the other ones have gold plated switch plates that seem more rigid
thus having less play between low and and high.

The biggest complaint to me on these is the finicky low to high. But, that’s just me……….

:person_facepalming:

Will this be the last fiasco or will there be more?
I think that we must to move away from this maker, like to the plague

Yes, we’ll move to On The Road or Jax!

thete will be changes

I have had this on my key chain ever since I got it. So far it has worked great. I am very happy with this improvement to my key chain.
