Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Canā€™t agree more. Itā€™s the thrill of the hunt more than anything. Thanks to dcho for showing the way. And teaching how to track the hunt.

Thanks for the shout-out! Thanks to 3D printers, I have a battery holder/voltage regulator project for Mag xenon bulbs and itā€™d be a shame to let these go to the crusher. Iā€™ll start a WTB thread for them. Iā€™d like to compensate people for postage/their time plus a few pennies

I was just there but saw no need to take a picture of a regular price item.
Remember i am in Canada, the land of igloos and we have just been introduced to electricity.
We donā€™t get penny deals here ever, out stores work on a different system then the American ones.
The daylight is not listed on the website but the warm white is hence i posted that link since it was available. Both are the same price and in stock on the regular shelf, i even scanned it since i am awaiting its price drop you have foretold, no dice :frowning:
The cheapest LED iā€™ve ever seen at a Canadian HD is $1.46, i bought all 20 of them.

We have energy saving coupons that are from the government, they used to be $5 off, i did once use them once to get 9 bulbs for 4 cents each after tax! The HD price was about $5 though, it was the coupon that cut the price.

They would not let me use the coupon on the $1.46 bulb, i tried.

Not to say i have not taken advantage of clearance deals, i got a wall sconce for $3 after (government) coupon, dozens of $2ish 60W LEDs (coupon), Defiant lights, batteries, Brinkmann tabletop BBQ and so forth. Never 1 cent though :frowning:

WOW THAT WAS $1.46? Those are originally $25! They were the god of LED bulbs! I always wanted one.

They are not that great, they are probably closer to 2500k and only marginally brighter then a 60W equivalent. If you lived near me i would sell you some, but iā€™m sure the shipping would kill the deal.
Well worth $1.46, not worth $5
They are not the L prize light, a few generations later, but 2-3 generations old now, takes a second to light up after they get power

Sorry, I forgot.

Hey, if they donā€™t do the penny thing up there, not your fault right?

FlashPilot had me in WalMart looking for bargains a couple of weeks ago
Boy, that place is strrrrraaange!

oh yeah, one more.

date on clearance tag of 02/24/16
I never noticed any Wiss products on clearance until now

Just came back from my local HD, no luck! :frowning:

Yes the Chargers with 2 cells are now a penny

No worries :+1:
Is it wrong to wish they crushed things here so i could buy for a penny?

oh master dchomak - how did you suspect that wiss tool would have pennyā€™d out? it is a 0 price that does not seem to have a wind down schedule, and the date is fairly recent.

I scored a couple of penny deals this weekend. It was on two originally $46 under-cabinet LED task lights. Iā€™ll try to post a pic later. The interesting thing was when I did the price check and then pushed the screen button to convert it to a check out the screen went to ā€œCall Associateā€ or something to that effect, which we know could be trouble because the associate may confiscate the item. So I cancelled out fast and left the register quickly. But I went back shortly and just did a regular check out and the penny items went through normally without a hitch. So, bottom line, when the price check reveals a penny deal just cancel it out and return and treat it as a regular purchase. Keep the price check and the purchase as separate activities.

Iā€™ve been to all but one HD in my city searching amongst the Leathermans for an overlooked Wingman but have found none. Iā€™m going to have to go to the last one and check it now that dchomak has located some.

An associate told me the ā€œCall Associateā€ happens when the discount sticker is scanned instead of the black bar code that is part of the product packaging. Ever since I started scanning the product bar code, I havenā€™t had that happen.

Congrats on the scores.

Good for you!

I should tell you that it is much more efficient to go into a store with the idea of looking for a large number of possible penny deals. The ability to do that will come with time as you notice what has been on clearance for the past few months. If you commit, your brain will literally be loaded with lots of possibly useless informationā€¦ā€¦ā€¦BUT, once in awhile it will pay off.

congrats! was this the 12 inch light? i remember seeing them at the 3 price which was around 12 bucks. i am a cheapskate so thought i would wait for the penny deal

you can say that againā€¦ and again  i once went back to 3 wrong stores before hitting the right one trying to remember where i had seen a likely to be missed stash of armormax 3Ds when they went to a penny

Actually the ā€œ00ā€ price is the very first stage of a wind down schedule, IF there is a date on the yellow clearance tag. This tool probably had a 6 price and a 3 price too. Itā€™s just that this one tool never had the tag price updated.
The first clue to me was that it was laying horizontally across a couple of the peg board hooks in the tool section. When I saw the ā€œ00ā€ and the date I figured it was old enough.
And it was.
Right now, dates toward the end of February are turning to a penny. Keep an eye on that 100W car inverter, it is just about old enough (03/01/16)
See, an example of maybe useless information swimming around in my head that I spoke about in my previous post

Take pictures with your smart phone, the phone should embed GPS info
Thatā€™s why I always seem to have the pictures

If you are in a Home Depot and use the Home Depot app on your phone to check a price will it show if it rings up a penny?

No - only the in store self checkout price check will.

I have always been too lazy to take picturesā€¦ of anything or anyone - but for penny deals, i am prepared to do anything
