[2016-06-11] Crackdown on rudeness

Well, we all know you will need an extra one.

-1 = disable...

I could *ahem* “fix” that for you.

*click*

Hmm.

Does that happen if you get a rude point, the point expires, and then the original report gets cancelled? Just a guess.

I’m confused now. I thought the rude meter ticks down once per day. Last night, I was at 21/10. Earlier today, I was at 20/10. Right now, I’m at 0/10?

Oh SB; I sincerely hope this rude botton is not giving you more pain in the head, it being a pain in the @$s with all extras people ask for.

One cannot stop all disruptive things people can do. Personally a short rude post does little to my positive feeling about BLF, I know how people can get.
I have seen people get annoyed and more rude because others were not helping or derailing things without a single rude comment.
But as a whole BLF is one of the most friendly places on the internet I ever visited (the other being a forum about hobby beer brewing, that had the same dedication to the hobby, also gave input to professional and starting brewers and were also very welcoming to new members.)

Different universe where they use anti-points instead for being anti-rude.

That’s one possibility. The other thing that is causing weirdness in the scores today is the change I made to the algorithm; at first each point had a 24 hour expiration time. But then I changed it so the total rudeness score ticks down by 1 per day until it reaches zero. But by the time I made the change, some had already racked up quite a few points with the old 24 hour expiration time.

That’s correct, it’s just that the points you accumulated in your testing were before I made the change, and those points had a 24 hour expiration date.

Now, could you have an option to set the rudeness meter number for a userid to toggle the killfile entry on/off?

No, I think I’m just kidding.

Memo to self: be careful making jokes around software engineers …

Thats great but actualy noone here was rude to me and i have never seen a rudeness in any topic ( well i dont follow many )
Thats one of many reasons that makes BLF a good freidnly place

Thanks to everyone for their positive comments here too. I don’t mean to create a pall of negativity with this thread. As I mentioned, the vast majority of members here obviously make a concerted effort to be polite and friendly most of the time. It’s just that there are a few repeat offenders, which often limit themselves to certain topics, and I needed a metric to base my moderation judgment calls on. Or another fairly common situation is people losing their calm when a stressful or frustrating situation arises with a vendor or a group buy.

Feedback control panel buttons: rude, overexcited, under excited(boring), post too long, not enough pics, too many pics, pics too large, pics too blurry, lack of beam shots. All but the first punishable by having a sad faced beam diffuser capped emoji under your avatar for 24 hrs. Can we have a gong button?

You rang?

WARNING: autoplay, turn down the volume first …

Today’s Dilbert cartoon is about customer-service and trolling. You need to read yesterday’s to understand today’s well though.

Yesterday’s Dilbert

Today’s Dilbert

I would be clicking the pics too large button quite often.

I suspect people might like a you’re not as funny as you think you are button. Particularly for some of my posts :weary:

Also — in the same sense that blocking users or messages lets you control what you don’t want to see — remember you can use UblockOrigin (Firefox) or a similar tool to block any individual element. For example if there’s a huge “signature” picture you’d rather not see every single time someone posts, you can block that specific image file. If it’s a rotating collection, you can block the image files from that particular account at that particular picture host.

If you have a small screen, a limited attention to distraction ratio, or both, this can be very helpful.

Nice!

Incredible! Take me down to the Paradise City!

But I like that waving varmint!

On a serious note what is the default setting for this meter? 0 or 1? to be fully neutral?
