OK, this thread has been cleaned up and the offending user has been permanently banned. My apologies to those who were offended by the trash that he posted.
Seemed to me he was trying to get the hammer. He ran quite a string of ‘jokes’ in the joke thread, all the while racking up rudeness ‘points’ and then joking about that as well, before coming here to do the same. Maybe he was trying to get banned so he could go back to some other forum and brag about being banned from the friendliest forum on the planet! At least to me, that’s the only thing that makes sense. But who really knows with trolls?
Well, I don’t want to ban anybody. But there is simply no place here for hateful racists, which he proved to be. Truly disgusting behavior like that is pretty much a one-shot offense here.
I tend to agree that permanent bans are a bad idea. All it does against a troll, is let him know he “won”, and he can create a new account and start all over again. A temporary ban, however, might not be worth him creating a new account, so he might wait awhile, and in the meantime cool off and forget about trolling here.
I think the new “Rudeness” meter is giving trolls an indication of whether they are being successful, before they get banned.
If it is just someone off his meds (not a troll), then a permanent ban seems harsh.
Of course, I’m assuming he’s not posting anything illegal or stuff like that. Like I said, I have no idea what this guy did.
I’m glad you didn’t have to read his disgusting posts. For those of us who did, I’m pretty sure the justification for a permanent ban is sadly obvious.
Incidentally, he did receive a very clear warning PM from me first, which he blatantly ignored.
Normally, I don’t publicly announce a ban to avoid giving more publicity to bad behavior. But in this case I felt an obligation to do so, in order for those who read his vitriol to know that it was handled, and that those sentiments are completely and utterly incompatible with everything I believe in and what I want this forum to be.
He was not accidentally touching the curbstones. No, he was intentionally driving off-road. Again and again. People confronted him about his attitude and he laughed that away (too). There is an expression for what happened to him:
who doesn’t want to listen, has to feel the consequences. AKA: Wer nicht hören will muss fühlen.
Is it feasible to have the signup page include a field (e.g., Initial Here: ) so a prospective user can confirm having read and accepted the forum rules?
That can remove the opportunity for recreational disputation.
Sorry for want…
Better will, or do…
I didnt want to offend you, only to think about it.
English is not my motherlanguage.
And if i m honest i even dont like it at all, but i m happy we found one so we all can talk together!
Possibly, but even that wouldn’t prevent a truly hateful and malicious person like what we saw from posting their trash, if that’s what they want to do.
I’m not sure at what point you saw the incident, but his attack was not limited just to the animal pictures. There were numerous other posts with garbage that was even worse. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then I’m glad for you because you didn’t have to see it.
It wouldn’t have helped this time, even when the rules were pointed out to him he still chose to ignore them.
Besides, do the majority of people even read rules/user agreements? If a user agreement on a wèbsite is too long for me to concentrate on I walk away, but most people I know would just accept it without reading. Reminds me of the NSFW South Park humancentipad episode.
