Group buy: Jaxman Z1 host [THREAD CLOSED BY ADMIN]

Hi everyone, please drop the subject of accusations of racism, and please don’t recur to such accusations in the future.

Honestly, I don’t know why I’m responding to this., but your arrogant, self serving, condescending’ manor is a bit much to take.
I live in the US. I had no idea what Article 55 of the Lisbon Treaty is, but I looked it up article 55 That tells me nothing. Article 50 explains what I think you meant.
I don’t know what this has to do with the topic anyway.
The only debate we should be having, is why are you still here, serving the dumb masses.

Oh man, how is anyone supposed to follow an on topic line here?
Sigh….

J-Dub74, thanks for the input PayPal might become a normal payment option.

Sharpie and others involved in Paypal vs Credit card discussion

Paypal is a safe and good payment method when a site is not known or has poor after sales.
So when AliExpress is unknown I can imagine paying with it has it benefits.

But over the years AliExpress has become a reliable platform and their dispute system is very easy and in case of problems one can explain and is actually listened to.
I’d choose AEs system over any other.

Here in Europe we enjoy western freedom as well yet there are undoubtedly more rules and regulations. A lot of them protect a consumer so paying with credit card to protect ones shoe repairs is not needed  , paying with a credit card is not as normal here as it is in the States anyway.

For example when something is bought online the buyer can ship it back with no reason given within a period of time (at least a week after delivery) and must be refunded in full. So we have much less need of protection from PayPal here.
All items bought are covered by a legal warranty depending on the item, so we EU peeps don’t need to pay extra Apple care, we show the law texts and get helped (not that companies are not trying to sell extra warranty)
A lot of shops offer free shipping back (print out label, smack it on it and drop of parcel) because it inspires trust and makes people buy clothes for example without the risk of getting stuck with not fitting or a bill for shipping it back.

I think the PayPal protection is a good thing
I like the AliExpress ways more
But of course I really like a vendor that ships the good as advertised.
Such vendor does not have to fear whatever refund measurements are in place.
Simon/Convoy and Paul/Jaxman deliver what they promise and as such are seen as good vendors by most people who ordered at them.

Jaxman probably is waiting for a longer list before making the hosts available, we know a lot of tyr parts can only be bought in high quantities and the current 20 will not justify spending thpusands

But who would get involved now…

Yes I think people will want to get involved after seeing input on this great host.
And in trlhr midst of the nasty parts all remarks and pics of the actual hosts and build are nice and promising!
So Yourrid, yeah i can’t wait on some pics!

Thanks SB!

AliExpress now offers Palpal. Having said that…I just tried the XHP35 on 16mm noct with heat sink. I need another tube to bring it up to 16.8 v…but it works. Yes I lost the focus and wish there was an extension adapter for the bezel lens. I’m going outside now but even in this form it is a great light. First impressions are I like it. l/m/h. I used a mtn-max 22mm buck 4S and a triple sink. More later

offtopic: BLF Giveaway started. Enter.

I used to use AliExpress as needed, when I had a Visa card to make payments (Visa bank card) Then my bank changed the card to Discover and AliExpress doesn’t accept Discover, so with no Visa and no PayPal I didn’t purchase from AliExpress at all for quite a while. Amanda at MaxToch would send me a PayPal invoice, Simon will do that too for the asking. And that is how I got around it.

We don’t have the options to use the payment methods AliExpress accepts other than in a limited way. I prefer, usually, not to use credit so this limited my purchase options.

FWIW, I haven’t had to use any form of protection as I’ve always gotten what I ordered and if it didn’t work, I fixed it. Gonna mod it anyway the majority of the time, so no biggie.

Funny, France is more old fashioned then Holland when it comes to digital things.
But we have something really neat.
When I log into our French bank I van make a virtual credit card
I type the amount needed (or more if I want)
Then I choose a period for this virtual card to be valid (say a week or longer if I want)
Click
Pop up
Picture of a MasterCard
New number
Chosen expiration date
The security code
And amount
I type the info on a website I do not know and tadaa, paid with protection of my bank credit card yet a unique number only valid for my chosen period and good for my chosen amount.
No criminal can do anything with this.
Very nice and safe.

Cool Miller, great idea and I’m sure it gets used a lot.

There are US-based banks that offer virtual credit card numbers too. I know Bank of America offers them. They’re not very popular because they’re not really a great solution. Sure they may keep your “real” credit card number safe from being stolen, but they’re still tied to your actual credit account and carry the exact same protections, so there’s really no increased safety from them. I guess the one benefit is that if your “virtual” account number is stolen you don’t have to get a new card issued to you, but as far as your actual money is concerned there’s no benefit.

Yes if it is just a virtual extension of the account there is less benefit then what I have.
I can choose an amount and exp date.
I make one for the amount I need, pay and it is done and no more canbe taken of the account.
And actually I don’t use it often .
Sometimes when PayPal is not accepted since PayPal is much easier to pay with then logging in setting parameters and then type the number etc.

Yes, sorry if I wasn’t clear but that’s how the virtual card numbers work here too. Its tricky though, because things like overdraft protection mean that technically a card (even if its virtual) can be overdrawn. And expiration dates are flexible too since they’re based on months and not days, so they’re often at least weeks in the future. That gives a thief a lot of time to take advantage of a stolen account. And the point remains that if this happens you still have the same protection as using your real account number, so if money gets charged to your account fraudulently, whether through a virtual card or not, you stand the exact same chance of getting it back.

I’m not saying they’re a bad idea. There’s very little reason not to use one (except in places where the card number itself is some sort of verification, like online hotel reservations). I’m only saying that they really don’t provide as much protection as it would seem at first glance.

Please put me on the interest list

WILCO at next update.

I have quoted the whole post hence being misconstrued as just picking on some points and misinterpreted, but to the highlighted words, IMO those pronouncements are heavily-loaded and a very bad, sweeping accusation to ALL the rest of us BLF members as prejudiced, has ill will.

Article 55 is the page where it was signed.

Edit: and will have to be torn up.

By a previous Labour politician, who had promised a referendum before so doing, but lied and did it anyway.

Article 50 is where we can, and it seems will, cancel our membership.

There is a lot of complicated other stuff that will have to be un-wound.

It might be worth your while to take an interest in developments. Assuming that they are reported by your media.

Frankly, this is cataclysmic.

Also to anyone who has family members living in other EU countries, which is most of mine.

But this isn’t the thread, nor the forum, to discuss such things.

Which is why I am understandably, a bit edgy about the ways of the world at the moment.

Please forgive me.

Just walked the trash down to the road for pick-up in the morning. It’s a 300 yd walk one-way. Took the Z1 and X1 with me. The X1 with led4powers LD-2 driver works beautifully, the XP-L HI has a nice hot spot with an aura and nice spill. The Z1 with it’s SBT-70 is in a whole different class. Virtually no spill (in zoomed mode of course) and it’s really like a theater spot-light, whether shining up into the night sky or spotlighting cows in the field. It’ll put light on the barn at 610 yds, but it’s not intense out there at that range. The intensity is in the heat produced! It get’s hot! Hot enough to mess with the operation of the FET+1 driver actually. I find the tight round circle of light to be pleasing, but somewhat disorienting due to the lack of any peripheral lighting. I was walking of course, so this would be explained… if stationary and searching or hunting it would be quite ideal. Very easy to spotlight a crittur in a tree top without disturbing anything else.

Both lights are very well made, both lights fit the hand quite nicely. I was one handing the zoom option and the battery tube started to unscrew… the X1 is one piece, this can’t happen with it and of course it’s not a zoomie anyway.

All in all I’m pleased with how the Z1 works in conjuction with the SBT-70, although I may need to change out the driver to something more reasonable in amperage and functional reliability. Perhaps a 9A LD-2, or even 12A? Pulling almost 18A from the single 26650 is pretty excessive…

In case anyone has not read the rules of this forum…

I truly hope this can get back on track.

Right. #1 says don’t be rude, or your account will be deleted. It does not say please don’t be rude, unless you are having a bad day, in which case it will be tolerated. This is far from the first time this has been an issue.

Thanks Dale!
It sure is quite the LED you have used!

When you tighten the battery tube it won’t unscrew hopefully? First time using the UF1504 that happened to me too, highly annoying but easy to stop by just a little more force.

I’m incorrigible, I know.

I removed the AR coated window and it’s metal frame from the SBT-70. I like the look of it better and it seems to have a bit cleaner beam profile without that extra piece of glass between the phosphor and aspheric.

Got a chance to put mine together tonight. Overall I’m very pleased. Its a 4000K MT-G2 with an LD2 driver. I think this big emitter looks great in there:

The overall light is a great size, smaller than I expected for a 2x26650:

Yes its got that hexagonal beam profile when zoomed in:

I’ll try to get some real outdoor beamshots later when it gets dark.

I do have one gripe/complaint. The machining on the brass pill was pretty rough, especially on the surface where the mcpcb goes. I know many of them from all sorts of manufacturers show the machining rings, but this one was even still domed up in the middle, like a very shallow cone. My mcpcb just rocked back and forth up there.

Took about an hour of sanding to knock it down flat, but the final results came out very well. The mcpcb sat down like its supposed to and the black cover piece fits like a glove.
