My Right Foot (Four week update in post #41)

still got red blood, not zombie yet :+1:

I have had many ingrown toenails, and your words make no sense.

Mutilation, standard operating procedure.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Ingrown toenails…and still haven’t learned your lesson and trimmed the others

Not trimming toenails is not a cause of ingrown toenails.

Also, I have only gotten ingrown toenails on my big toes.

Ahh I see, thanks for the heads up! I just researched it, did you have tight shoes on or cut your nails too short or something?

I’ve never had it before that’s all

I do not wear tight shoes, and I do not cut my nails short.

I am just prone to ingrown toenails.

You aren’t alone, RC. I had to have both my big toe nails removed permanently in my teens. Pulling them out temporarily never worked for me. They always grew back ingrown. Other than some odd looks I get when wearing sandals I don’t mind it at all. No more clipping!

The worse part of the surgery is when they scrape the nail root off of the bone. No pain but you still feel the whole thing.

I had several of these when I was in the Marines. Corpsman would chop it off and I’d be good for about 6 months then they’d do it again. Mine started when I was in bootcamp, the corpsman said it was probably due to getting the wrong size boots and cutting my nails too often. She suggested I go a size larger on the boots, start doing “V” cuts when I trim my nails and just file off the top of the “V”. That definitely slowed down the recurrences. Apparently cutting your nails stimulates their growth. That’s why they had me stop cutting the sides of the nails and just file them down a little. When I was off active duty but still in the reserves I had a civilian podiatrist do an IGT removal and haven’t had another one. I still do the “V” cut and filing but since I don’t beat up my feet like I used to there have been fewer issues.

Good Luck with yours!

Any problems involving the feet are no fun. Best wishes for a full recovery!

I was thinking about becoming a foot model. What do you guys think?

That sound mighty painful and very drastic for a ingrowing toe nail, I was shocked by the picture the op posted too, looked like they’d operated with the end of a 6 cell maglight.
Seems almost like how they might of done it in medieval times.

I had to have one done when I was a teenager, so know how painful they are, but it was done nothing like that, they just slightly trimmed the nail and used an acid down the side to stop it ingrowing again, you can’t even see it unless you pull the skin to one side and the nail is perfect and never had a problem since with them ingrowing

how much does a toenail removal cost in the USA?

RC - I had mine fixed too...but just cut and acid burned so those sides cannot come back. Funny as it may sound...that little toe can bring down some of the biggest men around.

I hope ya heal quick.

Like most of you, when I saw that picture, I cringed inside with those little sparkly feelings in your gut. And the hair went up on the back of my neck. Then for some unknown reason my mind went right to pouring some salt on it then scraping it off with my sharpest knife. Weird, I know. :person_facepalming:

There is a cookie made in such fashion. Sticky, cherry, and clingy-gooey center encircled with a crunchy as your toe nail toasted biscotti…

Bon Appétit

Looks kind of like my left thumb did in my second week as a new Carpenter’s Helper. I didn’t need a doctor to achieve that, just a 20oz hammer and lousy aim. Took me 3 tries though, and your doctor did it in one :stuck_out_tongue:

Heal quickly :+1:
Phil

I once had an ingrown toenail
And the pain would cause me to go pale
So I went to the Doc
I was in for a shock
When my toe he began to assail

Well he took to the task quite quickly
He grabbed onto my toenail firmly
Then he said ” bite on this ! ”
I let out a loud hiss
As I tried to avoid syncope

As my foot he so tightly gripped
With his pliers my toenail he ripped !
I contorted with pain
And my shout was profane
From my body the sweat fairly dripped

Well my toe looks quite different now
Since that day I made a solemn vow
That when I’m in pain
I will never complain
And just try to keep going somehow

Oh my God, your worse off than me…. I’m pretty happy about this as you can imagine.
Enter the twilight zone theme here…………

Took me couple days to get the guts up to even look at the Coon’s post. Knew it would be nasty from the title… Pic makes one’s arse whole suck wind. So, I puked out an appropriate response. :confounded: :sushi:

ETA: feel so much better after heavin’ a load out of the guts…now…back to the Lamp. :innocent:
