Cree XM Emitter

Went to buy a XP-G R5 today so I could build a new drop in for my L2X , while shopping , I queried the XM availability , ???? possibly , 2 to 4 weeks away .....

Maybe - hopefully - they have there fingers crossed !

AS I have been reading on CPF, probably due to the high demand, christmas and others, will be difficult to get one until second third of next year

It will be in short supply from what I understand , hopefully I will be able to get some , hopefully !!!!

I got the XP-G R5 when it became available , should have got more as it became hard to get after my initial purchase ...

Cree will be sending them out with an eye dropper ... I want 5 for myself ... [ P60 pills ] and maybe one in my 2D mag ... [ Currently XP-G R4 - when the R5 was in short supply ]

Maybe 1 in my Solarforce Skyline ... I may need to re-consider if given the opportunity to stock up on XM's

Very nice SPECS if they are true... it will run a lot cooler on higher currents if CREE can keep their promises.

Here's hoping, but a year and a half from announcement to projected general availability sounds like problems with the manufacturing process to me.

If the big brand manufacturers decide to build lights with them it will likely be even longer till they are generally available. Or if they get adopted wholesale for non-portable lighting.

After all, us enthusiasts are an insignificantly tiny part of their market.

Dont espect to find chinese cheapo ones with XM until late 2011, guys!

hey i can wait. i got other led projects to play with. im happy with my R5's and MC-Es lol

The thermal resistance of the XM platform is 2 degrees C per watt— an industry-leading technology breakthrough and a 350 percent improvement over Cree’s flagship XLamp XP-E LED.

Really fresh leds. Good power and low heat (very good for EDC and medium format) and 2A is reasonable.

I suppose the MCE and P7 cheap (real 2-2.5A) drivers for them will go well. Luminus business with SST-50s is near end?

You should always be able to get these from Cutter or Digikey or the like. Old4570, is Cutter shipping to NZ cheap? Maybe we can organize a group buy.

Geez , I would not say cheap , and some have complained about shipping costs ...

Currently buying from Cutter is more expensive [ XP-G R5 ] than buying from HK , but there is no waiting since I dont live to far away . Even with the high Oz banana ...

Im thinking I might buy 10 emitters , and pass on a few at cost .

I know I want a XM in my Ultrafire A20 , Solarforce Skyline 1 , 2D Mag , Some P60 hosts , my Akoray AK-16 , Hmmmmm [ wont be much left over from 10 ]

Since I dont know prices [ emitter ] and Ozzi postage is a killer now [ cost me like $10 to send a small plastic part to england [ weighed like nothing ]

And the XP-G R5 is like $10+ now [ threw the invoice out but was it 10.65 ??? ] under $11 ... so what the XM will be ???

I dont want to buy more emitters than I can use ... But I do know cutter is already back ordered on the XM , to quite a huge number .

So the price might be like $20+ Ozzi bananas . So its not like buying from HK [ free shipping = gee I like free shipping ]
