GB Oficially closed/// Maxtoch 2X Shooter (new version)

Thanks, T18. Those indeed are more substantial looking cap screws.

You are so very welcome scs,
Nothing I love more than really good news, to me anyhow that is some really good news… just imagine if Maxtoch hadn’t changed those bolts, screws what have you, like almost any other company would have done,

Package arrived in Rhode Island today
Haven’t had much of a chance to try it yet

New batteries are in the charger

Thanks robo

FWIW, my 2X Shooter still has the small T6 screws.

I ordered mine from Amanda before the group buy started though, so possibly this was changed before the group buy started. I have one on the way for Preacher, will try to remember to check this…

Also FWIW, it’s called a Shooter 2x on the flashlight body. Just wanted to get it right. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks, Dale. If there’s enough setback perhaps you can retap the existing holes for larger screws.

Waiting for a light sometimes can feel somewhat like this (from 2:16 on), when the package doesn’t seem to be moving:

I ordered four Shooter 2Xs in this group buy for myself and three friends.

The lights arrived in perfect condition with cells at ~3.5V. I’m very impressed with the build quality and finish.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned that I wanted to do something cool with the four lights before distributing them to their new owners.

Dale ( of course  ) suggested building a quad with them…

The “coupler” is made of scrap plywood, hose clamps, a spare QR tripod plate, and the handle from the cellar door. :stuck_out_tongue:

The lights are mounted on a tripod at head height. The X6 is on turbo with a fresh HG2 cell. The Shooter 2Xs are on high mode with freshly charged MAXTOCH protected cells.

My friend is standing against the fence about 120 yards away. This is my first attempt at beamshots, and I tried to get this exposure close to what I saw with my eyes.

These are tweaked to show the beam profiles:

I had only 30 minutes between dark and closing time at the park, and I couldn’t keep my friends waiting another day for their lights.

I will keep the coupler in case I can convince all three friends to lend me their Shooter 2Xs sometime…

Too Flippin Cool!

I want one!

VERY well done with the centerpiece, awesome work! Man I really do want one of those quad throwers with independent light control.

My apologies to your friend, the singed eyebrows will grow back soon…

Got my vote for ‘best budget quad’ for sure!

Got a heyboard but no ‘Shooter’ today. Soon come, mon

Out shooting last night with the new 2X Shooters at 364k.

These lights performed superbly - right up to their hunter design specifications. They illuminated the 0-300 meter shooting zone very brightly, picking up cattle out past 500m in one location. Weighing just 0.9lbs (400gms) with batteries, they were very light to use out of the truck (legal on private land in NZ) or on the scope, so no arm weariness after 4-5 hours of use. Also very effective in the medium normal ‘hunter’ mode with its 250k 1000m beam - this substantially improved runtimes.

We were after bunnies and if possible a red deer for the freezer. On the night we popped 28 rabbits and hares, saw three small mobs of fallow deer which we had been asked to leave, and saw three reds at a distance but they were gone into the scrub before we could get onto them. Another night….

In all lights superb for hunter role - just so much light in that critical 300m. At one point we checked to see if the old 4x4’s lights were on high beam as they looked so dull by comparison…

We did notice clearly again however that light does not travel as far at night on this valley near a river. There is more moisture in the air which cut down max distance. By comparison another of our sites is in clear, very dry air next to the mountains and there the lights will show full 1200 meter range more consistently.

Thank you both for the kind words!

Here’s the coupler before final assembly. It looked great bare, but I painted it black for maximum tactical-ity.

Dark, empty areas longer than 100 yards are tough to find in my urban setting. I would love to get some more beamshots in an area where the quad can stretch its legs.

I’d better start planning that backpacking trip with my three friends…

That’s neat GDI …… and insane!

I know some are already getting their lights. Just wondering….did your tracking ever get pass “the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece” or did your light just show up? I ordered ASAP on the 13th but my tracking continues to say ‘topiptdtmp’ ……. I am beginning to suspect Chinese Customs misplaced their screwdriver………hence my sig

Thanks! It was pretty insane. I was on the phone with my friend while he stood down range preparing for the beamshot photos. After getting a single light aligned, I told him I was going to turn on the other three. He said, “What?!? That’s only ONE?!?”

I ordered and paid via PayPal right away. Amanda emailed me a DHL tracking number on Monday the 25th and the lights were delivered at 9am Wednesday the 27th. She mentioned in her email that shipping was upgraded for free, but I was still shocked at the delivery speed. Two days from Hong Kong to the US!

Perhaps I got special treatment since I ordered four lights? I am also located very near a DHL hub.

The tracking data on DHL’s site was updated quite regularly. There were 13 events logged from “shipment picked up” to “delivered.”

How are everyone else’s lights being shipped? I hope they arrive soon!

Mine has the LTxxxxxCN number, or something like that, and no tracking info is showing up. Shipped the 27th, or so initial reports go, with no sign of movement.

I thought it was kinda funny that they guy at the fence covered his eyes for the one, but not for the four. lol

Heck of a quad right there, even if somewhat on the pricey side. Sure woulda liked to have tested Lux on those! If one is doing ~350Kcd, what do 4 do? I don’t think throw would be greatly enhanced, but lumens downrange sure is! (much like converting to the XHP-35 really, I still get 330Kcd but with some 2200 lumens)

Mine’s coming USPS. I still have:
“Origin Post is Preparing Shipment, We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece.”
That was from the 27th.
FWIW, I’m tracking another unrelated package, and it says exactly the same thing.
In my experience, there is no USPS update on these Chinese sites, at least until delivery confirmation. What I really want to know is when it left/leaves China, and I’m not sure I’m going to find out.
For me, the best way to deal with these situations is to try to not think about it, then it just shows up one day. But sometimes (like in this case), that is hard. For me it’s usually about 3 weeks from China, sometimes 2; rarely 4. So it could be awhile. That was a nice touch to upgrade some of the early birds to DHL, as that is not cheap, even in China.

That quad is insane, BTW. Very entertaining beamshots to look at!

What’s the approximate K temp on the tint on these? I’ve looked at some pictures but it’s hard to tell. I tend to favor 4000-4500K (5000k is not ideal, but acceptable), would I be disappointed?

That Quad is sick. Love the ingenious way you went about building it. You have to love the way the spill picks up with multi emitters. :+1:

Below are the comparison of tint colours (taken using iPhone and observed colours are very true on calibrated monitors):
Maxtoch Shooter 2X - dedomed XM-L2 U4 (1A or 2B?) + original AR coated glass
Courui D01 - dedomed XP-G2 S3 2B - original non-AR coated glass
Fenix TK61- dedomed XM-L2 U3 2A - original AR coated glass
BLF X5 - XP-L HI V? 3B (Stock)

Left to Right: 2X, D01, TK61 at 1.5 meters

Left to Right: 2X & X5 at 0.5 meter

Personal feeling, 2X shows slight greenish tint, D01 is greener without AR, TK61 is more to yellow, X5 is rosy pink. How many K, hard to tell; as I do not have the measurement equipment. BTW, I like the yellow TK61’s tint the most, which is dedomed U3 2A+purple AR lens.

Thanks for those!

I tend to agree with you, from those shots, I like the TK61’s tint the most too.
