What Legoes with What?

I would not fire it up with the stock C3 switch, that light will draw way to much current for that switch!

My SS C3 from DX came yesterday and it does indeed fit the copper X5 very well and works just fine. Although the longer threading of the X5 tube does not go all the way into the head or tail of the C3.

Hey Matt, the switch in the SS C3 is a type of Omten 1288 with a different ground connection. I suspect that given the extra number of mechanical contacts in the arrangement that higher currents will cause multiple voltage drops but the switch itself should be fine. Ultrafire seems to be fond of placing the switch in a pill and this one is much better made than the 501/502 versions and has a threaded cap on the button side. On mine this was loose causing erratic behavior but once tightened it works just fine. I did also change the button cover from the ill fitting, hard to access, concave cover to a standard convex one. Neither would tail stand but at least it’s convenient to operate now. A 1 mm oring inserted before the button cover could fix that but only if the tube threads were likewise shortened or the tail cap would not fully screw on.

Rufusbduck, glad you pointed that out! I should have referred to the tailcap. I did melt one of them with a FET driver and lithium ion batteries… I did restore it to service and it still lives. I like the little C3 SS.

Fwiw, I think it might be possible to change the switch to a more standard switch on pcb arrangement but it would probably also require shortening of the tube threads to gain space for the pcb and cannibalizing the aluminum module for a retaining ring. Probably not worth it in an SS host with limited heat capacity but if you’re modding it to switch melting levels you might consider it.

I blamed the failure on high resistance points around the switch, not the switch proper.

It would probably be much easier to alter the aluminum C3 and better able to disperse the heat as well. This ones a good candidate for one of Harleyquin’s Oshpark boost boards as stock it has the annoying five modes with next mode and no memory.

Muto observes:

Just an update,

the blue 18350 S2+ tube I have from Banggood fits both my blue S2+ and the X2R perfectly, but the black S2+ tube I just got from Simon directly only works in the S2+, not the X2R. It doesn’t thread in all the way. Maybe I should try a black one from banggood? Or the astrolux version?

edit: BG actually has one that says it’s for eagle eyes, maybe that’s my best bet. Has anyone confirmed that tube fits other genuine EE lights?

I was clearing some demolished tripods (the brand is Velbon) at work (=school, adolescents can and will break anything), and it struck me that this extension tube for the tripod looked familiar. So I took one home and behold: it fits the BLF A6 like a glove. It needs some work (clearing ano to make electric contacts, extending the tail spring and driver spring a bit) but then it fits 5x 18650’s. It just needs a 20V led and driver now Or 40V of course if I add another extension

The result ( )demonstrated by my son (nothing modded yet, just to show how it fits):

sooo triple (3S) XHP35 HI in an A6?

Last I recall it people just had to order them, try them out, and ask the shippers to try again if what they got didn’t fit, like there was a grab bag of mixed parts at some shipping site.
I kept hoping that would get cleared up and I guess I gave up watching.

So, ah, how many tripods, and how many legs that have threads that fit so well? Time for a mod-something-unexpected challenge round??

I have ordered six so far they all fit all my X6’s and A6’s.

The only short tube I have had problems with was the bare BLF A6, never got a short tube that fitted.

Thanks. I ordered one to try. Unfortunately I ordered at the $4 price, and now they are on sale for $2 :person_facepalming:

Well right back at you, just ordered four more, $2 is the cheapest I have seen

Foursevens Preon P1 Copper and Fenix E99Ti have heads that can be swapped with one another:

So far, the “3W Police 2AA” threads fit most of the #3 zoomie, and all of the SK68 zoom and COFLY KX - FH10 zoom flashlights I’ve tried

Xref, Keltex also has a good thread on these: Sipik SK68 battery tube extension mod

I’ve used this one: cheap silver extension tube for sk68 ? - #5 by hank

You use two of the sections with the ten ribs. Those sections have one male and one female thread.

With the #3 and SK68, the male thread fits into the zoom flashlight body in place of the tailcap.
So you can stack two of the “11-rib” sections, and you use the zoomie tailcap.
(in that case, you have the other battery tube section, tailcap, and emitter as a poor 1AA flashlight)

Or you can stack the one 11-rib section with the other section and keep the “3W” tailcap.

I guess this needs a picture, I’ll get one showing the variations.

With the Cofly zoomie, the female thread fits the zoom flashlight body in place of the tailcap, and you keep the “3W Police” tailcap switch, which has a female thread.
(in that case, I forget if there’s any way to use the leftover parts.

For a few years I had no problems; the last few #3 zoomies I tried had incompatible female threads though, so the extra section wouldn’t fit.

I can still find #3 zoomies for $2 intermittently, on sale at AliExpress (last ordered some a week ago though the price bounced back to $4 as of right now)
Not sure if they’ll have compatible threads til I have them in hand to try out though.

I couldn’t resist and ordered as well, based on this thread saying they fit the Convoy S6 host:

All convoy S series have same threads. Simon sais that short tube wont fit only because different length of tube over threads (18350 tubes were made for S2+ so they fit S2+ and probably S3).
