I’ve been here close to 5 years now. It’s gotten much worse as far as unfriendliness. It’s become cliquish. I remember when everyone was friendly a few years ago. There might have been one bad apple here and there, but nothing serious.
Instant communications are too quick. Faster than the brain many times. Not like the old days when the only instant communications were face to face. And I believe that in face to face many of us think a little more before opening our mouth. I try to delay hitting the send, save and post buttons when I am upset. Right now I have a letter to my Toyota dealer on my desktop. I wrote it a week ago when I was royally P-O’d when my truck took hours longer than promised. One of these days soon I will have to rewrite it, tone it down. Then I will send it.

Randall Munroe makes a good point, but the kind of risk-taking he advocates there is more of an exception than a rule. It’s like the cinnamon on top of a snickerdoodle cookie; it adds something nice but it wouldn’t be any good if the whole thing was made of cinnamon. It’s best used sparingly.
On a related note, thanks for making BLF so nice. I’ve encountered some issues on another forum over the past month and it really emphasizes how good things are here. 
The issue on the other forum isn’t related to rudeness though, but censorship. Someone keeps removing any threads which mention an important and common hardware issue in a popular product — specifically, SaberForge’s “SaberCore 2” driver board tends to heat-damage itself in its standby mode unless power is physically disconnected. I see people posting questions and complaints about this every day, each post describing the same symptoms, and those posts generally disappear within 24 hours.
I’m really glad BLF doesn’t do anything like that. I mean, sure, sometimes people get banned for sustained bad behavior, but that’s very different than censoring people trying to help each other understand and solve common issues.
Clearly a case of xenophobia. They are discriminating against extraterrestrials. 2002 AA29 is experiencing the same issue as your (469219) 2016 HO3. This must stop now!

Hijacking a topic thread that is about a specific make/model of flashlight, to post the same old repetitive complaint about that type/class of lights.
When a new topic for a new model of light is posted, people who do not like that entire classification/type of light hijack the thread that is about that specific model, and hijack the topic to complain about the entire class of lights. The people who actually like that kind of light are hijacked from discussion about that particular make/model of light.
For example: Nice, tidy, small, useful lights that run for hours and hours continuously on max mode. These are great lights, and people who are not excited about this class of lights do Not swoop down every time a new make/model is introduced, to complain about this class of light, in every single new topic for every single model in this classification. Why? Because people who are not excited about this type of light do not want to be rude and hijack the topic to post their non-positive views.

Next, very large lights that have several modes, including a low mode that can run continuously for hours and hours.

Next, there is also a max mode on these lights that permit the user to release all of the power of the cells in a brief blaze of glory.
There are lots of lights in this classification, offered by lots of manufacturers. There are lots of people who are excited about this type of light. We like to create new topics and discus the specifics of the specific make/model.
We do Not need constant, unceasing reminders that the max mode for this class of lights is for short burst only, to prevent rapid exhaustion of the fuel supply and to prevent melt down of the light and its constituent components. Really. We do not. We already know that.
We already know that very large lights are not useful/practical for some people. They are useful/practical for us, we the people who create new topics for such lights, and who want to enjoy a positive community experience when we read the topic threads. Really. They ARE useful/practical for us. The entire class, not for you? We already know that.
Please stop negative hijacking topic threads for specific lights if you do not like the entire class of lights that it falls into. We have already reciprocated in advance. Small lights that are practical to you: We are nice people who do not complain about their inability to release the entire power of their tiny fuel supply in a brief blaze of glory. Please stop complaining about our milli-minute mega blasters in our topic threads.

Neither do I. While you do make some valid points, discussion of various pros and cons, as well as opinions, are allowed and encouraged. I don’t know your specific examples, but in general, I don’t think such posts are rude, or hijacking.
Honestly? I can’t remember a single instance where a topic in this forum was hijacked by whiners disliking the concept. Mostly because I’ve never seen more than two or three whiners in this entire community, and they don’t post here since ages ago.

IMO, I don’t think that it’s hijacking the thread. It’s more about focusing on issues with the design of the light in question. Yes, it’s criticism, but I don’t think it’s hijacking.
My idea of hijacking a thread is taking it completely off-topic with irrelevant posts.
Oh, and I don’t agree that threads about mundane lights don’t get criticism. People will complain that they’re under-powered. That’s okay, it’s just an opinion, but it’s also not hijacking.

I actually have seen certain persons ‘hijack’ threads about certain lights with ongoing posts containing nothing but complaints and arguments about the light in general or the driver design in particular. These perpetrators were told repeatedly that if they’re not interested they should just move on, yet they persisted to trash someone’s product. To me, that’s rude. But, I’m actually VERY conservative with the use of the Rude! button myself. I have a high tolerance for argumentative debate. I don’t usually use the Rude! button unless someone is obviously trying to start a bar fight in a thread I’m participating in.
