Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Dchomak,

How many times do I have to repeat, the app (and store) does NOT work the same way in Canada

We never get penny deals, we get slowly dropping prices till all are sold.
Till recently clearance deals showed up on the website, they don’t any more, but this is a separate problem all the barcodes you posted except the one won’t even trigger a database search, it just says doesn’t exist, which is a new bug that has changed since the app was rewritten, they may in fact all exist even in the app, but it randomly decides which items it chooses to search the database for. If i go to the store and scan 100 random items, all not on clearance, about 30-40 won’t scan, it won’t query the database no matter how many times you try to scan it, but one of the items that will scan still query each time. It makes no sense but they choose to live with their new bug infested website/app while the competition eats their lunch.

BTW those 1500 lumen bulbs you bought the final remaining ones of for $2.something quite a while ago went from $14.97 to $9.97 here month ago, but they released a new version after yours were long gone, about a month ago, a two bulb package (which is the same bulb type that were cleared out in the US) for $16.97 (regular price).

Ok, I just took in all those UPC’s to scan at the store. About half of them did come up .01.

Although I then got on one of the in store computers and tried looking them up on there and they did not even come up? I guess that means they are out of stock? Or do all penny deals do that?

I am guessing that they are just too on top of things around here to let anything make it to a penny on the floor. Heck seeing a .03 price is a rare thing.

Course we do have 7 million people in the area to pick things over pretty good and the stores are too dang well organized to let something pass by unnoticed. Or maybe the employees are snatching this stuff up lol.

The annoying thing for me is thinking that you found a penny deal because the date is a year old and it still ringing up the sticker price (which is generally the 00 or maybe 06 price).

OK, so about half come up for a penny. That means in your area there IS such a thing as a penny price. The half that didn’t is probably due to some regional thing, for instance no sense clearing out an item that happens to sell well there. Or perhaps the clearance cycle is delayed in that region.
Thanks for checking. It shows that it as least possible to find some deals.

Bort on
I set my app to a store in Canada, and you are right. Stock is different. I could not find any Ridgid or Ryobi tools for instance.
Bort off

My point earlier, and I repeat, The HD app for phones AND the site online will NOT show an item that is on clearance. And Texas_Ace if you used an in store computer to check items, you most likely were on their website. Same as using the app or your computer at home, you will NOT find a clearance item.
Scanning those UPC codes with an app will give no results. They MUST be brought into the store and scanned at self checkout.

Store employees behind the service desk do that too. Many times I have found a single unit of clearance item at say the “3” price. I would bring that item up to the service desk to ask them to check for stock. SOMETIMES, the dummy behind the desk tries to use the online website and fails, tells me “no such item”
I then have to tell them that is not true, I am standing in front of you holding 1! I tehn ask them to use their SPECIAL way of checking and they do.
Best way to check for stock on a clearance item is to ask someone on the floor with a scanner. They can use that to find what you are looking for.
NEVER ask anyone to check for stock for an item you suspect, or hope, will be a penny.

Today I am in Ohio and I came across the Biggest Swarm I have ever seen. A crew of 25 will go through the entire store and inventory EVERY item. The crew chief told me it will only take them 2 1/2 hours to do it.
Of course once completed, this store will have been picked clean of penny items. :frowning:
But that’s OK, because starting tomorrow, NEW items will start going to a penny.

This store is the most difficult one I have ever been too.
It has low traffic, is spotless and well organized. Very hard to find penny items, but I have had some success.

If this was my hometown HD and was the only one I could go to, I too would be discouraged

Hi everyone. new to this forum, but been HD penny dealin’ for a while now.

Just wanted to let you know that some areas have dropped the 39” inch tool cart to .01, SKU: 1001572044.

If it’s not a penny yet at your store, it should be $38.02, still a great buy. I was able to find one a couple of days ago for a penny.

GREAT first post ’Rob! And I LOVE the avatar.

Yeah, that cart caught my attention at $75.04. Last week the day before I left on my little trip there was 1 in the overhead at my hometown store. That day it still was priced at $75.04
Could be 38.02 by the time I get back. I would jump on that price too.
That particular model you got has a hardwood top insert, very nice

I checked those 12 UPC codes at a store in Midwest City, OK. Seven of them came up for a penny and 5 came up at a discounted cost.

more importantly was there any stock?

I just scored one on the east coast at $38.02!

I dunno where I’m gonna put it, and I barely got it in my Equinox but I got one.

All 3 employees involved with getting it down from the top rack and checked out wanted to know how I managed to find it and know that it was on clearance. The cashier (I tried to self checkout but it had no barcode) looked long and hard, triple checking the SKU since it had a $149 price on the top.

Wheeeeeee!

Thanks!

I didn’t check for stock on the store’s system. Customers in this area regularly clean things out by the time they get to the “6” price and the stores around here are very efficient at removing penny items before customers can get to them. I’ve taken to scanning the crusher area to see if any items are in carts awaiting crushing that might be grabbed by an artful dodger but the efficiency seems to carry over to that area as well. The only way to get a penny deal around here is if something has been “misplaced” in the stacks.

Thank you.

I just came from another HD store. Their in-store price check app said they had 2 in inventory at $38.02. An associate spent almost an hour searching the entire store for it. Couldn’t find it though :frowning:

Made it to the Utica, New York HD today looking for the Rolling Work Bench.
They checked and did not have stock and checked stores in the area and non had any in stock.

I do not know how far they could search but I think it’s in the 50 to 100 mile range.

On my trip back to CT from OH I went via Up State NY. I found 4 of the 100 piece Husky socket sets at $13.02 each and 6 of the 28 piece Combination
Wrench sets at $5.02 each

I stopped at 7 stores, these were the only ones to have either. These 2 stores were about 200 miles apart. I found the Socket sets first and had them check stores in the area for the combination wrenches, none in the area.

I didn’t dare look for the rolling workbench, I would not have had room for it in my car anyway. Actually finding one would have caused me no end of regret.

Let’s play a game!

Can anybody spot the penny deal in this picture of a clearance endcap? This is just how it looked as I first walked up to it.

OK, here is another. Do you see the penny deal?
(This one is impossibly tough) I saw it because I had already scored this deal a couple of weeks ago and the package is distinctive.

Extra Credit:

“Open a Home Depot Card & Receive a Free Gift”
Who can spot the penny item(s) on the table.

There, I flipped the sign up to show merchandise under the table also.

The only one I can make out is the light wall sconce on the left hand side. I got a few of those for a penny a couple months back.

I would guess the 100W LED bulb on the top slight right

I would be shocked if its the compressor on the bottom left (plus its not distinctive)

Someone posted the light on the left a while back (radioshaq maybe)?

That would be correct IF it was the DayLight version of the Philips 100W bulb.
That one is the Warm White bulb and is not YET a penny.

Don’t be shocked, it wasn’t

Concerning the “Open a Home Depot Card & Receive a Free Gift” table

That sconce jumped right out at ya, didn’t it?
Once you notice an item of interest or you score one for a penny, the image of that item gets seared into your brain. Come across that item again and “it jumps right out at you”

I am not familiar with that sconce so it didn’t jump out at me, but several other items did.
The small beige containers behind the sconce, the 2 EverReady flashlights in the center, the WINK Home Security Suite on the right and the UV flashlight just to the right of that. These are all items that I have come across at a penny.
Plus under the table is a full case of the Husky 3D ArmourMax flashlights #852-955. Those went to a penny too!

Notice behind the sticker, someone wrote in marker “852-995) They got the number WRONG. Probably why this case never got pulled a couple of months ago when that light went to a penny.

When I first saw that table and it’s contents I thought how clever! Home Depot is giving away stuff they would normally just throw in the trash to encourage people to sign up for a HD Credit Card :money_mouth_face:

Ordinarily, they would offer $25 off the first purchase using the card.
(I would rather take the $25, and try to find those items for a penny on my own :stuck_out_tongue: )

So, I am still looking for the correct answer for the first 2 pictures, and the correct answer to the 3rd picture, the items on the table
is EVERYTHING!

BTW, notice that the UPC code is covered with marker in the blowup below, so that it could not be scanned

Lately I have come across several items that would scan at a penny if they hadn’t either ripped off the UPC code or marked over it.
That allows them to sell penny stuff at prices other than a penny.

Connected hub?

I was hoping for more guesses, but you got it! That is a connected hub and 2 light bulbs, “a starter kit” that once set up, allows the user with the app on their phone or computer to turn light bulbs on and off or even dim them anywhere over the internet.
That package “jumped out” at me from 60’ away. Having already scored 1 of these on my trip out, I was aware of what it was and what it would cost.
I found 1 while I was traveling to Ohio thru Southern New York on route 86. The other I found while traveling back to CT thru Up State New York on route 90. Each way I visited about 7 HD’s along the way. Surely a rare find. Of course while traveling I knew of other stuff to look for and found other items as well. Point is it’s not easy, but it IS possible. Especially if one has a large library of possible items to look for. Timing is essential also. And luck.
Notice the Date: 05/17/15. This is 1 item that did NOT follow the normal 6 to 3 price. All Connected TCP stuff held at the “00” price and then were pulled.

I wanted to play, but just been too busy. You all are killing me with these scores. That tool box score for a penny rules. Congrats HomeDepotRob.
