Christmas is almost upon us , so I was wondering , what can you buy for $10 .....

Sanrenmu 763, OK, goes 50c over...

That would be my choice as well as far as flashlights. As for knives, I'd get a SRM GB-763. They are close to $10 shipped, easier to find than GAs these days, don't look as threatening or tactical as, say a EL-01A, feel far more expensive than they are and never fail to get positive comments. I have given away quite a few 763s this year, and everybody who got a GA or GB loved them.

Edit: Oh, and the SK68 everybody loves of course. Well, make that two. :D

Oh, and since we're talking budget, here are a couple of my favorite budget knives. These may not be as refined as the usual suspects (SRM, Navy, Enlan, Bee, etc), but if you're on a budget and concerned about bang for the buck, they are still a pretty good deal, IMHO. Where all of them fall short is the quality of the steel. But then again, most people are still paying $30+ for 440C, AUS-8 or worse. Don't give these to a knife enthusiast, obviously. ;)

This used to be my beater knife for opening boxes and cutting cardboard years ago. It looks better than in the picture. Skinny blade, really skinny liner, very soft steel (hence, easy to sharpen).

This was one of DX's top-sellers back when they started selling it early last year. A ton of people love it. I don't really like it, frankly, but I thought I'd include it anyway. It's a Böker knock-off. Comes in a standard "Böker Plus" box and it looks more expensive than it is. This one may even impress your friends if they are not into knives. It's fairly light, which I don't like but many people do. Rides deep in your pocket and at least the early batches were okay quality. Judging from the comments, that may no longer be the case.

Now, this one I do like. I used to buy a lot of junk (I have since slowed down), looking for that one diamond in the rough. This one comes pretty close, at least at its old price point at $7 or so. It's now almost $9 on FP and that's just a tad bit much, if you look at what else you can buy for a little over $10 (763, 939, EL-04, EL-01). Still, I really like this one.

Comes branded "S&W Extreme Ops" (obviously fake). Is spring assisted, has a flipper, ambidextrous thumb-studs and rubberized handles that I like a lot. It's not overly large but it fits my largish hands really well. In fact, it's one of the few cheap knives that I actually use for real work (the liners are pretty thin; also, I have several of these and I've had to do some work on some of them to make the liner properly engage the tang, so please do keep that in mind).

I like the westernized tanto profile (point in line with spine of the blade; about 40% serrated), and the steel isn't as soft as on some budget knives, but still nothing to write home about if you plan on actually using these. Earlier batches came lubricated, fairly sharp out of the box, with pretty decent washers and loctite on the pivot.

What can I say, I like these. :)

Yeah , dont need to be a flashlight ....

Just a nice gift for $10 or less even ....

Christmas is darn close ....

If the gift is needed by Christmas (for Christmas), shouldn't anything from DX be off the list because of their shipping times(or has something changed)?

Not really. If you order anything now, you might get lucky and get it in time for Christmas (depending on where you live), but unless they already have it in stock in a warehouse close, any store that has a JIT-business model and uses either China Post or HKP probably won't be able to get your order delivered until after Christmas (possibly even after NYE).

Could be too late to order , unless its in stock ...

Something like this should have been started a month ago ....

Most stuff from Ebay should still make it .... [ Should ]

Well...the last couple of things that arrived from China were beaten-up pretty badly. Time of year I guess.

It's never too early to shop for next Christmas, birthdays, etc. I try to shop year round. I hate Christmas shopping, but if I don't have to rush through a mall elbowing people, I'm ok (I don't actually elbow people).

For kids from Radio Shack @ $10.99. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3523591&retainProdsInSession=1&filterName=Price&filterValue=%2410.00+-+%2449.99

I heard many Chinese retailer now have overseas warehouse like DX and FP, is this true?

it will shorten the time?

I am trying...

Christmas under 10 bucks.... hmmm....time is running short..... how about a cheap bottle of wine, and a 3 pack of condums

My punt would be a C8.

Would like to suggest the E01 at DD

With their current coupon, they can be had for under 10 bucks a pop if you go the below route.

Get 3 for $ 5 bucks off (oneworldweshare will bring it down to $ 9.3 each)

5 for $ 13 bucks off (SAVE13OFFME a low $ 8.4 each)

The best bit is, they are a no brainer gift light, just pop in an AAA and hook onto key chain, use as needed.

I'm sure you'll need more than one gift stocking right?

Great suggestion I was going to recommend the E01 from DD...great light, great price. Quality is very nice on these lights. Very handy.
