Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Sometimes you have to make your own deal.

I have been seeing this “Water Resistant” bluetooth speaker on clearance now for a couple of weeks. It is at the “4” price, about 50% off.

I was at a store and they had 1 left. Notice above that the box is tattered and had been opened a number of times by people checking it out. So I opened it too, turned it on and connected it to my iPhone via bluetooth. I played some music and it sounded pretty good!.
I had been waiting for the next price drop on these and it should be any day now. The “2” price would be about 75% off or around $7.52. This being the last light, and because the box was tattered AND it was soiled, I decided I would bring it up to the Service Desk to see if they would give me a deal.

I explained the $7.52 price and it was soiled etc, etc, and offered $5.00. The girl in Service said that she was willing but wondered if the computer would let her. It did, and she rang it up for $4.50 so that I would “save the tax”

Here are the pics of the cleaning. It was easy.

Good sized magnet on the speaker, it is monoral.

Controls on top include increment and decrement of song, on and off. The + and - buttons also control the volume. There is a built in microphone for hands free operation. It can be used to answer your phone.

On the side, their is a USB port to charge the internal Li-Ion cell!
Also there is an AUX import. And comes with the cables.

And I almost forgot to mention, it doubles as a lantern

This Bluetooth Speaker and Lantern is a great deal when it goes to $7.52. You may even want to get one at $15.04. In about a week, when it drops to $7.52, just bring in your receipt and they should adjust the price for you. Do that BEFORE it hits a penny and are pulled.

For those of you that missed out on the compressor deals and think there will never be another, don’t despair.
So far I have seen this deal at just 1 store, let’s hope that more stores are coming. Being the “3” price it could be months more coming. But perhaps not…

This is called a “Tri Stack” compressor. 3 tanks total, and the top one is removable. Has it’s own regulator.

I shot that on a cart, you know what that means

3 days ago I posted about the deal I got on that bluetooth speaker - lantern.

At the time it was offered at $15.04, the “4” price and 50% off list. Judging by the date, I figured it would go to the “2” price any day now.
Well the day after, just 2 days ago, on a hunch I bought 4 more. I had to go to 2 different stores and I had to pay the going price of $15.04.
One store had 3 in a clearance endcap. Top shelf, center. squeezed in between 2 lights.

At the second store they were hard to find. No one in the store knew where they were, THEY WERE NOT WHERE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE. Just as I was about to give up, I found them in Garden. I am thinking someone displayed them there because the are “water resistant”, perhaps good for the patio?
This is a good example on how it is possible for HD to miss pulling a clearance item when it goes to a penny. Nobody knows where they are. In fact after the first markdown from $29.95 to the “00” price, they where not found to lower the price to the “04” price of $15.04. Here are the 4 they had still marked at $23.00

I grabbed 2, and left 2 (perhaps in 2 weeks they will still be there and I can get them for a penny?)
So in all I got 4 more, 2 at each store.
Receipt from the first store, 2 @ $15.04

Receipt from the second store, 2 @ $15.04

3 days ago when I posted this deal, I included a picture of the UPC code. At the time I printed one out and was carrying it with me.
Today, just 2 days after having bought these 4, I stopped by my local HD and scanned my UPC cutout.

Look at THAT. $7.52
So I went over to Customer Service and asked them to refund the difference from my 2 receipts (I was carrying those with me also)
Even though I didn’t have the 4 speaker-lights with me, what they did is first refund the original purchase price from both receipts to my card.

Then they had me scan my card again to buy them back, but this time at the newly discounted price of $7.52

BTW, in order to pull this off, you must return within 30 days, and do it before it goes to a penny.

So I went in to take a look at that compressor. It looks good. There was a sales associate. I asked if it was going on clearance any time soon and he asked me If I knew something he did not. I shrugged, mentioned it was on clearance in the lower 48.

He was supper suspicious about me asking if they were going on clearance. I will say I did have someone following me through the store for the rest of my visit. There were a ton of stuff layed out with signage about going on sale for labor day weekend. There might be a good deal here or there.

Some of the people on the floor are ok with the deals getting really low, others look at you like you are a criminal just for looking for good deals. Sheesh…

I snapped a pic of the UPC and tried to run it on a self checkout price check - didn’t work. The cashier misunderstood me and rang it up (it came up at full price), then got confused when I said “nevermind” and walked away. I’ll keep my eye on this one though.

I was in another local HD and they STILL have the EverReady lanterns at full price. It seems very hit and miss.

I didn’t expect that Ridgid compressor to be widely available at that price yet.
I did find one on my local Craigslist though. Looks like someone else found one and has it up for sale.

.
.
.
This Craigslist add claims that the regular price is $325.
A couple of other stores have this compressor at an even $299.00, others are out of stock.

BTW, lately I have become more and more aware of “secret” clearance deals. An example is this item. It’s a 3 ton light duty jack with 2 jack stands.
I first came across this display almost 2 months ago in 1 store.
Item #1001-650-920

Ever since then I have been scouting other stores for this item, hoping to find one at the “3” price of $30.03. All other stores either have them tagged at $109.00 or not at all.
Also it comes up as $109.00 on the web site. (The fact that it comes up an even 109.00 “00” on the web means that this price is not yet a clearance price)

That means that deal was for some reason only at that store. However a couple of days ago I came across 6 of these units in and overhead, behind a net.

Soooooo, I went up to Customer Service and gave them the item number and asked then to check for stock
They said they had 6, but notice that at this store it is on clearance and the price is an even $75.00. (1st step towards the “6” price, then the “3” price)
So I have to wonder, if it is on clearance, why isn’t it on the floor with a price?
Seems to me it was put aside for “safe keeping”, if you know what I mean.

If that’s the game they’er playing, I’ll play too. My iPhone pic has data on which store that is and I’ll be watching. I just may get one or more at $30.03 yet.

That SAME store also had one of these up there.

That’s one of those 3 gallon air compressors that went for $33.00. I asked Customer Service to check for stock on that one too.
They said they had 1.

So I saw this TCP Connected LED and was pumped! dchomak had posted that all TCPs were now at a penny.

But when i took it to self checkout, I got this :frowning:

I tried it in two machines making sure I was scanning the barcode in the box itself, and not a sticker, but same result. As the Homedepot representative came over, my mind was racing through “what would dchomak do?” and I just blurted out “so why don’t you just let me have it for a low price?”. As I was saying it, I realized dchomak would have never said that - and the rep confirmed by saying “I could get sued for selling that to you”; Manufacturer Recall! I had never seen that one before.

Ah - the one I was tracking is no more … some guy must have happily bought it at the 33 price. I kinda stopped tracking it after realizing it wasn’t going to a penny.

Man, dcho, you are tearing it up these days.

I think that sometimes you may experience some negativity from some posts when we can’t find the same deals. I just want to let you know that I am very grateful for your finding posts. There have been times when they have saved me big money. Most of times, I can’t find the same deals. But, I still love hearing about your scores and experiences getting them.

Same here, I can’t get the penny deals but I do get the price drops so when I see something here I want, I know it’s probably going to be on sale when I go to my local store so it saves me money.

Phil

+ 1.

Any negativity that you might get from me is simply sour grapes and jealousy on my part! I really appreciate your everyone’s diligence and time invested in making all of us aware of potential upcoming deals.

Ditto here, exact mine is more directed at the local managers that have the time to keep their stores spotless.

Good point guys, my local HDs are really unlikely to yield penny deals but that doesn’t mean I can’t find a deal of some sort. This past weekend my son and I were at a car show near a HD so after we did that and had a good lunch I told him I wanted to check HD for any clearance items we’d be interested in. Once I explained the process (6’s, 3’s and penny deals) he got really into it. He found a few clearance end caps that I didn’t even see because they weren’t marked very well. We ended up buying my first “03” deal, a Wagner heat gun marked down from just under $30 to $5 and change. There were 2 styles but I just got the smaller one and will check in on the other one to see if it lasts long enough to be a penny deal. These went to the “3” price in June so they’ve been on clearance for a while, if you need or want a heat gun make sure you check for them.

Yes, it’s always nice to get the deals.
Those heat guns that jf_smm mentions were everywhere at one time. Now I don’t see any.

In the past, I mentioned mops and poles at the “2” price. A couple of weeks ago I was in this store just as the girl was pulling them and marking them at a penny.

I went up to her and remarked that I was just a little late. She told me it wouldn’t have mattered because they will NOT ring up for a penny UNTIL she sets them to a penny with her scanner. A couple of times I have been in a store and have had items in hand that were set to go, but waited until the reaper had done their deed. As it happens, this was the first of 7 stores I visited on my trip from 2 weeks ago. Having seen that clued me into the fact that the mops had turned, but I wasn’t able to find a single one in the other 6 stores. that first store must have been one of the last to tag them at a penny.
A couple of days ago, I was in that same store again and poked around the display to see if I could find any “crumbs”. I found 2. Behind the display a single mop head was on the floor and a mop and pole were back there. I went over to the garden area to get a “helping hand” It’s the thing with the green pole and the jaws at the end. I didn’t buy it, I just borrowed it.

With that tool I was able to reach down and snag both the mop and pole and a loose mop. Both rang up for a penny.
The mops that are a penny have a big red weave at the head of the mop.

And here is a combination mop head and pole. If you ask me this is the better deal. Still a penny, but the pole is included :stuck_out_tongue:
Hard to notice the wooded pole, but it is attached to the mop

At another store I found some more at the bottom of a tall cardboard display. I used that same helping hand tool there to.

The tool is to the right of the scanner

These 80 foot, 16ga extention cords just went from 14.88 to 7.54

Now they are $3.82. In 2 weeks they will be pulled and go to a penny.

These mini worklights have now gone to $1.52

But my local store STILL has them marked at $5.88. They do scan at $1.52, I checked

These 7000lb ball mounts are about $30

They look just like the 6000lb ball mounts they replaced. If you can find any 6000lb ones mixed in, they will likely ring up for a penny.
I found 5

In the cleaning section the longer 9’ telescoping poles are a penny. The shorter 6’ are about $12.
They are easy to tell apart, the 9’ is 3 sections and have 2 white rings. You may find some mixed in with the 6’
I think they are easy to miss when it was time to pull them.

I only saw these generator cords at one store and they were tons of them. Then they got pulled, but they missed 2.

etc, etc.

As encouragement, every week, probably 50 items get pulled and marked at a penny. All departments, plumbing, electrical, housewares, tools etc.
Even if a store is cleaned out, next week there will be more. And more, and more.

Anything you see at a 6 or 3 or 4 or 2 price, will be a penny in the near future. Walk the store and remember what you see. Because if you see it again, and enough time has passed, it could be a penny.

That was a long post, I forgot to include this.
That Ridgid TriPack compressor has gone to $75.03 at most stores around here. Only 2 stores still have stock, and at those stores they are still priced at $299.00

Here is the UPC code. Use it to price check. If it’s $75.03, then go to customer service to check stock

If you’re paranoid and susceptible to believing in conspiracy theories, don’t ask the tool guy.
BTW, stock of 1 could very well mean none. To be the safest, ask a woman with a scanner in housewares to check for stock. She would be so disconnected from what that compressor is that it wouldn’t set off any alarms.
I say that because the other day I traveled 12 miles to an HD that had 7 of the 100 piece socket sets. I knew that because another store checked nearby stores for stock. When I got there, I asked the tool guy to scan the UPC that I had printed out. I could tell by his expression that he knew what it was for BEFORE he even scanned it. When he did, he said he only had 1, even though I saw that his scanner said 7. When I pointed that out to him, he told me he had already been through this. Stock said 7 but they could only find 1.
He had that 1 in a special place and gave it to me. I felt a little bad because I got both the impression that he was telling the truth AND that 1 was put aside for himself. Truth or lie, something was going on at that store.

And, the lithium batteries are marked at 4.20.

FYI that 80’ 16ga cord will not carry any large loads, I’d limit it to 10A or less if it is indeed 16Ga. Many of the “made in china” cords overstate the wire size so personally I’d limit it an 8A load to protect my tools.

I’ll check for the worklights next time round- one cannot have too many portable lights you lnow

Phil

Yeah, I have been finding those lithiums here and there for a penny since late May and early June
receipt date June 4

What’s really, really strange about this latest HAUL is that was a local store that I have been to many, many times. I always check the battery section up by the registers and those just popped up lately. I don’t know where they came from.
Only possibility is that they were in storage behind the display and maybe the floor cleaner moved them out and put them there. When I first saw them my biggest fear was that they were too old and wouldn’t scan at all.
The picture above shows that they went to the 6 price and in that case they scanned for a penny also.

LOL, That’s why I passed on them at $3.82. Don’t need no stinking 16ga cords at $3.82

However, at a penny, I might be inclined to indulge.

Actually, 80’ 16 gauge cords can have some usefulness. for instance I cut and used some 100’ 16 gauge cords and used the wire inside of conduit that I buried to run our LED lights at the end of our driveway. I got those cords a good 20 years ago and I STILL remember that deal. It was Sams Club and they had a 100’ and a 25’ combo on clearance for $2.91. I bought EVERY one, and they had a lot of them.
I ended up using the 25 footers before the 100’s. I think I still have 5 or 6 of the 100’s
We used a lot of extension cords in my business, and as hard as I tried I could never get anyone to wrap one correctly or take care of them. And of course many were lost. You’re right, 16 gauge is not of much use. We used mostly 14 and 12 gauge cords. At home here, I still have a 100’ 10 gauge cord. And you are right about some of the cords have overstated gauge wires in them.

The last time I checked the only TCP connected bulb that had not gone to a penny was about a week ago. It has still been around all this time and it was still 39.97. It was a 65W equiv spot light. I need to see if there is still one to be found.
Here is the UPC of an ordinary TCP connected bulb that IS a penny. I will scan this tomorrow, it would be good if you could also. It would be really interesting how that store handles it. I am hoping that your result is not indicative of how all penny items will be handled in the future.
