Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Yes, it’s always nice to get the deals.
Those heat guns that jf_smm mentions were everywhere at one time. Now I don’t see any.

In the past, I mentioned mops and poles at the “2” price. A couple of weeks ago I was in this store just as the girl was pulling them and marking them at a penny.

I went up to her and remarked that I was just a little late. She told me it wouldn’t have mattered because they will NOT ring up for a penny UNTIL she sets them to a penny with her scanner. A couple of times I have been in a store and have had items in hand that were set to go, but waited until the reaper had done their deed. As it happens, this was the first of 7 stores I visited on my trip from 2 weeks ago. Having seen that clued me into the fact that the mops had turned, but I wasn’t able to find a single one in the other 6 stores. that first store must have been one of the last to tag them at a penny.
A couple of days ago, I was in that same store again and poked around the display to see if I could find any “crumbs”. I found 2. Behind the display a single mop head was on the floor and a mop and pole were back there. I went over to the garden area to get a “helping hand” It’s the thing with the green pole and the jaws at the end. I didn’t buy it, I just borrowed it.

With that tool I was able to reach down and snag both the mop and pole and a loose mop. Both rang up for a penny.
The mops that are a penny have a big red weave at the head of the mop.

And here is a combination mop head and pole. If you ask me this is the better deal. Still a penny, but the pole is included :stuck_out_tongue:
Hard to notice the wooded pole, but it is attached to the mop

At another store I found some more at the bottom of a tall cardboard display. I used that same helping hand tool there to.

The tool is to the right of the scanner

These 80 foot, 16ga extention cords just went from 14.88 to 7.54

Now they are $3.82. In 2 weeks they will be pulled and go to a penny.

These mini worklights have now gone to $1.52

But my local store STILL has them marked at $5.88. They do scan at $1.52, I checked

These 7000lb ball mounts are about $30

They look just like the 6000lb ball mounts they replaced. If you can find any 6000lb ones mixed in, they will likely ring up for a penny.
I found 5

In the cleaning section the longer 9’ telescoping poles are a penny. The shorter 6’ are about $12.
They are easy to tell apart, the 9’ is 3 sections and have 2 white rings. You may find some mixed in with the 6’
I think they are easy to miss when it was time to pull them.

I only saw these generator cords at one store and they were tons of them. Then they got pulled, but they missed 2.

etc, etc.

As encouragement, every week, probably 50 items get pulled and marked at a penny. All departments, plumbing, electrical, housewares, tools etc.
Even if a store is cleaned out, next week there will be more. And more, and more.

Anything you see at a 6 or 3 or 4 or 2 price, will be a penny in the near future. Walk the store and remember what you see. Because if you see it again, and enough time has passed, it could be a penny.

That was a long post, I forgot to include this.
That Ridgid TriPack compressor has gone to $75.03 at most stores around here. Only 2 stores still have stock, and at those stores they are still priced at $299.00

Here is the UPC code. Use it to price check. If it’s $75.03, then go to customer service to check stock

If you’re paranoid and susceptible to believing in conspiracy theories, don’t ask the tool guy.
BTW, stock of 1 could very well mean none. To be the safest, ask a woman with a scanner in housewares to check for stock. She would be so disconnected from what that compressor is that it wouldn’t set off any alarms.
I say that because the other day I traveled 12 miles to an HD that had 7 of the 100 piece socket sets. I knew that because another store checked nearby stores for stock. When I got there, I asked the tool guy to scan the UPC that I had printed out. I could tell by his expression that he knew what it was for BEFORE he even scanned it. When he did, he said he only had 1, even though I saw that his scanner said 7. When I pointed that out to him, he told me he had already been through this. Stock said 7 but they could only find 1.
He had that 1 in a special place and gave it to me. I felt a little bad because I got both the impression that he was telling the truth AND that 1 was put aside for himself. Truth or lie, something was going on at that store.

And, the lithium batteries are marked at 4.20.

FYI that 80’ 16ga cord will not carry any large loads, I’d limit it to 10A or less if it is indeed 16Ga. Many of the “made in china” cords overstate the wire size so personally I’d limit it an 8A load to protect my tools.

I’ll check for the worklights next time round- one cannot have too many portable lights you lnow

Phil

Yeah, I have been finding those lithiums here and there for a penny since late May and early June
receipt date June 4

What’s really, really strange about this latest HAUL is that was a local store that I have been to many, many times. I always check the battery section up by the registers and those just popped up lately. I don’t know where they came from.
Only possibility is that they were in storage behind the display and maybe the floor cleaner moved them out and put them there. When I first saw them my biggest fear was that they were too old and wouldn’t scan at all.
The picture above shows that they went to the 6 price and in that case they scanned for a penny also.

LOL, That’s why I passed on them at $3.82. Don’t need no stinking 16ga cords at $3.82

However, at a penny, I might be inclined to indulge.

Actually, 80’ 16 gauge cords can have some usefulness. for instance I cut and used some 100’ 16 gauge cords and used the wire inside of conduit that I buried to run our LED lights at the end of our driveway. I got those cords a good 20 years ago and I STILL remember that deal. It was Sams Club and they had a 100’ and a 25’ combo on clearance for $2.91. I bought EVERY one, and they had a lot of them.
I ended up using the 25 footers before the 100’s. I think I still have 5 or 6 of the 100’s
We used a lot of extension cords in my business, and as hard as I tried I could never get anyone to wrap one correctly or take care of them. And of course many were lost. You’re right, 16 gauge is not of much use. We used mostly 14 and 12 gauge cords. At home here, I still have a 100’ 10 gauge cord. And you are right about some of the cords have overstated gauge wires in them.

The last time I checked the only TCP connected bulb that had not gone to a penny was about a week ago. It has still been around all this time and it was still 39.97. It was a 65W equiv spot light. I need to see if there is still one to be found.
Here is the UPC of an ordinary TCP connected bulb that IS a penny. I will scan this tomorrow, it would be good if you could also. It would be really interesting how that store handles it. I am hoping that your result is not indicative of how all penny items will be handled in the future.

Today I found a GE Link 60 watt bulb in the clearance section. On the self checkout, it came out as not found… too old to be in the system. So I tried to pull another dchomak trick - I called up the rep and explained the situation; she looked it up online and saw it listed at 14.75 on their website, and offered to give it to me for 9.75. I asked if she could go lower and she said no. She was so surprised when I turned down her offer and just walked away.

I think I just learned something; if you see a lot of items one time and the next time they are all gone, then that means they have probably gone to a penny and you can look for leftovers.

in pseudocode

Heads up guys, a little birdie told me that many HD locations are eliminating 3rd shift (overnight) employees…this includes overnight MET. The regular MET duties will be done by the regular store hour employees. This might give us deal hunters a better chance to snag deals during store hours without interference from overnight MET.

I was in my work HD yesterday and the whole place was swarming with RGIS (I think that was it) uniformed subcontractors. Scanning and keying and putting up inventory sheets on all the racks and shelves. I scowled at every one of them, it felt like they were following me around the store stealing all the deals!

I did see a stack of Kohler faucets that are marked down to 35.03 from 139 with a date of 5/19/16. I gotta check those regularly for the next little bit. It would be sweet to score 3 of them at a penny and have penny faucets throughout the house.

I have seen faucets locally with dates as old as last year, they still ring up for the sticker price though. I keep hoping but it honestly gets tiring to drag it to the front only to drag it back lol.

The HD’s around here have a lot of faucets at an “07” price with the date of 05/19/16. Same date mentioned above. That “07” price is roughly 50% off and is the same 07 price my friend scored on for a penny last month. Dates on his scores were 2 months older, 03/17/16.

More FYI:
Kohler makes great fixtures but their faucets fall way below those standards. Good at half price or less, but you’ll get what you pay for. Kohler also ‘cheapens’ some of the ones it sends to the ‘big-box’ stores, they look the same on the outside but the insides are not the same as Kohler bought from a plumbing supply. Not sure if all their models do this but many do. Moen and American Standard are doing the same now. If they made lights to sell there. they’d have LB emitters for sure :rage:

Phil

Hey dchomak, do you use the “over/under” method? I learned it years ago and now I cringe when I see someone gather a cable any other way.

To those unfamiliar with this method, there are many ways to achieve the “over/under” wrap, but this video is quick and simple:

Search YouTube for “over under cable” for alternative explanations.

It’s so satisfying to hold one end of a 50-foot cable and toss the rest across the shop/driveway/yard and have it unroll without a single knot.

Yes, that’s what I am talking about. That method has lots of names, like the “roadie wrap” etc. depending on the trade.
I used to tell the guys, while wrapping the cord, just keep repeating “over worked, under paid”

How right you are. Home Depot and places like WalMart are so huge and have such buying power that they can dictate the prices they want to pay. OEM’s then have to figure out if they are willing to cut quality to get the sales.

The thing is these days, to get the kind of quality in faucets of yesteryear, one would have to pay $600 and up for a faucet. Not many of us are willing to do that.

WARNING: Graphic content to follow!

A couple of years ago my wife came home with a “new pull” from a newly constructed home. She found it at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. It was a brand new Kohler Pedestal sink and toilet. Complete with brass faucets and all bathroom hardware. Towel bars etc.
It must have come from a house just built and the owners ripped it out and replaced them with something else that suited them. The color was “Wild Rose”
She asked me to install them in the half bath off the kitchen, which I did. The problem is that the wooden toilet seat was an exact match color wise with the sink and toilet, and after a few years it needed to be replaced. I knew going in that this day was coming. I went online and found the seat on Amazon.

How do you like that, $144.00 for a freaking toilet seat! I don’t think the U.S. Government pays that much for toilet seats
Anybody that thinks I’m paying $144 for a toilet seat has an other thing coming.
So because I am so cheap value conscience, and a modder at heart, I found a close match color wise at Lowes. Trouble is, the hinges for the Kohler are sort of proprietary AND the hinges on the one from Lowes were damaged. That’s why I was able to buy the toilet seat on clearance for only $5
So I drilled new holes and mounted the Lowes seat, CHURCH brand, to the original Kohler seat hinges.
The wife is OK with that, so for the time being I dodged a bullet. I’m supposed to be looking for a closer match. :innocent:

Beware, a new low for BLF. What follows is a picture of a toilet!

That’s what I always say. ReStore is great. If you need a toilet, instead of getting a cheap toilet for ~$80, go to the restore and you are likely to find one or more nice toilets for much lower prices. We got a Kohler Rialto, in good condition, for $20 there; original price is like $500.

radioshaq,
Today I got a chance to scan for price one of the ordinary TCP Connected 60W equiv bulbs. I took a copy of the UPC code I posted and got this.

I was also able to find one of the 90W equiv down lights, not the 65W equiv that you scanned. It came up at $39.97. As far as I know, this is the only TCP Connected product left in HD. There are other TCP bulbs, just not the Connected ones.

Maybe your “recall” message is equivalent to my “item not found”
Maybe not. something funny has happened with the TCP connected stuff. The “Connected” system is supposed to be Wink app compatible, it says so right on the box.
Notice the Blue dot.

But when I go into my Wink app, I see this when I try to connect a TCP bulb.

Right on, my wife paid $75 for the pedastal sink, faucet, toilet and matching bath towel bars etc.
And it was a pull from a newly constructed house.

I got my hobby workbench there also. I only paid $5 for it! This is the Man Cave, most important room in the house.

Notice the ceramic bird bath to the left of it. I use it as a candy dish.
I’m pretty proud of that idea
