*2016-09-01* New Charger: XTAR DRAGON VP4 Plus

Few things seem to be missing which would make it a perfect charger:

1) 4.35V and 3.7V charging voltage
2) 0.25A current for small cells
3) 2S battery packs (as HKJ said below)

On the other hand, it seems to get everything else right, and even has probes to measure voltage, which should be very convenient (no need to constantly keep multi meter around).

Sounds interesting, but there are no real specs yet. I’m hoping for 2 amp charge for 26650’s in at least 2 channels. Bring it on!

Additional information from XTAR via mail:

Differences between Dragon VP4 Plus and VP4:

1) Dragon has all of the function VP4 has.

2) Dragon’s Power Supply is 12V DC, 3A while VP4’ is 12V DC, 1A.

3) Dragon has adjustable currents (0.5A, 1A and 2.0A) and can fully charge 4pcs 2600mAh batteries in 3 hours with 1.0A for each bay.

4) Dragon has power bank function but VP4 hasn’t.

5) Dragon can charge 32650/ AAAA/ AAA/ AA/ A/ SC/ C/ D/ 11.V/ 3S battery pack but VP4 can’t.

6) Dragon can repair Ni-MH batteries’ memory, can accurately measure the capacity of Li-ion and Ni-MH batteries and automatically saves the records.

Now I’m very interested. Hopefully HJK will get a sample soon for testing!

I do expect I will get a sample, but it will probably be some time. With Xtar the first batch usual goes to dealers and review copies are first from the second batch.
With this charger I will need a lot of time to test it, but from the specifications I am missing 2S battery packs, i.e. the packs that is usual used for bicycle lights.

wow. it can even do a charge-discharge-charge, measure internal resistance, can speak to you and also includes a balance charger
Impressive.

Looks sick and has a cool name. Wonder what that icon is in the upper right.i almost want to pretend its an alarm symbol and an alarm goes off when charging is done.

No voltage display, just percentage? :frowning:

I hope that value on the top middle is for cell voltage not charge voltage, but having to check each cell individually is not nice. it also seems to read internal resistance.

If it doesn’t read voltage, I’m out

+1

I am actually out before I even read about it. I have a good group of chargers already, and this one offers no improvement from what I have.

Where did you guys get this idea that it doesn't read voltage?

From product page:

LCD screen displays all information you want
Charging current
Battery & Battery Pack Status
Battery capacity percentage
Battery types and channels
Battery voltage
Battery resistance
CHARGE/TEST/REFRESH status
3S Pack/USB status

And even this:

With a pair of probes, DRAGON can precisely measure the voltage and internal resistance of your battery as a multi meter.

It is a question of which voltage is displayed.

It says “Battery voltage”. What other voltage would you like?

I would want end voltage and I would want current voltage just for starters

After the charge has finished, while the end voltage is displayed in one field, you would like the charger to continuously measure current voltage and display it in another field? Continuously draining the cell after the charge has finished? I wouldn’t want that.

I read XTAR has a new charger you might like.

You don’t say! What else did you read today?

i can’t wait for the review of this charger

HKJ will find out the real facts about this Xtar ! :+1:

They should send him a tester ASAP ! They’re in business and they

should be aware of how strong this man’s reviews are with many,

many people , which I’m quite sure they are , who use rechargeable

batteries and the chargers for them. If they really don’t know or

understand the power that HKJ has in the battery and charger world ,

they’re “asleep at the wheel” so to speak or they might be purposely

doing so ! :expressionless:
