Convoy S2+ SMO

Ordered 5, really excited to see what these can do… I have 4 S2+’s at the time and none of them is a thrower, time for a XP-L HI treatment.

Gee 4. I have only 1 but its been my EDC for 7 months now and it looks like it aint stopin anytime soon. If I had the money I would buy one. And BTW when I say EDC I mean I carry EVERYWHERE. Heck I wont even leave home without it. Except for school cause people already think I’m weird enough without bringing a flashlight during the day.

I just ordered four pieces, and got a SMO reflector for the L6 to test.

Ahhh the L6. I was going to buy it but I bought a SRK 7LED And 4 Panasonic 18650 3400mah. But I will buy the Convoy L6 in the future. But seriously Convoy know what there doing.

The reflectors on the S2+ are so short …I’m curious to see what the beam will look like and how much more throw it produces over an orange peel reflector . It would be interesting to compare them against the S2 with an SMO….Is there still an smo for the S2 ?

Yup, if you want a little throw from a tube light, you better go with an S2 , SMO reflector and a dedomed XP-G2…
Don’t expect too much from this SMO S2+ IMHO

How come?

Regarding what determines throw from a reflector:

Essentially it is the area of the reflector (while looking at it from the front) that determines throw. Whether the reflector is shallow or deep is not critical to the peak intensity of the beam. However, shallower reflectors tend to have a larger hole in the center, which reduces the effective reflecting area. An OP texture does reduce throw, depending on how rough the texture is (the texture reduces the effective reflecting area because some parts will not reflect light from the LED into the hotspot) . Also, OP texture affects throw relatively more for small emitters than for large emitters.

Here are some numbers that I have measured, all with XPL HI V2 3D with FET driver and fresh 30Q.
S2+ OP reflector: 15kcd
S2 OP reflector: 18kcd
S2 SMO reflector: 23kcd
narrow optic from LEDDNA: 21.8kcd

I would expect the SMO S2+ reflector with the same LED to be in between the S2 SMO and S2 OP reflector, around 20kcd.

I'd actually like to see a beamshot comparison between a SMO XP-L HI S2+ and a slightly larger reflector light, say M2 with OP and XM-L2. Would the tube light stand a chance?

I really hope the S2+ SMO reflector works well, but I have my doubts. I love the S2 SMO paired with an XPL HI. Throws as well as a stock domed C8 and has more flood. I finally hacked off one of Hoop’s copper S2+ pills and it fits perfectly in the S2+ host with a shorty tube. To me, this is about the most perfect EDC you can have. Throw, flood, and very small. Oh, and the stock S2 pill is still too long to work with the SMO reflector in the S2+ host. My modded pill is a couple mm shorter.

Interesting topic and part for S2+. I also thinked about how will change the beam pattern the SMO reflector with XPL HI compare to the stock OP reflector with XM-L2

So, has anyone bought one of these yet? I’d really like to see how it compares with the S2 smooth reflector.

Wow shadow your still at school. Do not worry about what people think at school at the age of 13 i was building PCs and trying my hand at programming and i use to take PC mags to read every day people would laugh but i came first in IT without even trying lol! I got over school and my attendance was 50% and i still topped most my classes. So who had the last laugh!

Also had issue so if any one said any thing id knock em out! But like we get like that i have 3 brothers we still argue now lol.

I ordered one after it released. but haven’t arrived yet. I only have S2+ to compare but I will compare with S2+ OP reflector and with XM-L2, XP-L and XP-L HI leds when it arrives.

What about S2 SMO reflector whit dedomed XP-G2? How many candella to expect.

Right now I got it. I will make some tests and photos in a few days when I have time for it

Excellent. Looking forward to your results.

Me too!

I made a little test stand with a 1050mA NANJG 105C driver a clicky switch, some wires and the three leds, a heatsink, and some connectors to quick change the leds between beamshots
I used XM-L2 dont know bin but maybe 1A tint, XPL V5 2A and XPL HI V5 3B leds.
Here are some photos of the reflectors and testing enviroment:

And here are the final beamshots:

That is a nice little test setup you made ‘ZozzV6’…I like that.

Those are some interesting photos also. Thanks for posting.
