Source for a warm (ideally 5A) XHP35 HI

I want to swap the emitter in my Acebeam K70 for a warmer tint to reduce scattering in the atmosphere. A search on Octopart indicates I can get these from a few of the big electronics parts suppliers if I buy 1000 of them, but I really only need one. Anybody know where to look?

But… i think they are lower bins .

Assuming Acebeam used an E4 bin, which seems to be the top that’s widely available, going to D2 for the 5C tint would lose about 500 lumens and nearly 100kcd. On the other hand, I could get 3C and lose nothing. Hmm… I’m leaning toward the 3C given those options. I’m not really sure which gives better real-world utility.

The K70 is a thrower, and I normally like warmer tints, but in this case the 3C would be my choice. Keep the throw, tone the tint down a little and keep the light around the same level but a bit easier on the eyes in dust or mist… 100kcd is a lot to throw away, get a WW convoy L6 if you have to have a warm and powerful light…

I don’t normally have a preference for warm; I like a good neutral around 5000K. 3D is my favorite general-use Cree tint.

I do prefer warm for throwers. It considerably reduces scattering in the atmosphere. The K70 is so intense (I’ve seen at least two independent tests getting 500kcd rather than the advertised 422) that the beam scattering in the atmosphere interferes with my view at long distance even when I would have described the air as clear before turning it on. I would give up some raw performance to reduce that effect, though 20% might be a bit much.

Absolutely agreed on warm for throwers! I can see a huge difference in visibility even comparing two Convoy C8s of 1A and 4C. Even though the 1A is visibly brighter, the 4C out-throws it simply because it doesn’t scatter as bad as the cool white.

My M3XS-UT has less visible scattering than my TK61 despite being considerably more intense. It’s all due to the tint.

I have the feeling a dedomed 219C would be great in a C8. I’ve put those in some smaller lights and I think I’ll be trying them in bigger throwers next. The tint is a lovely ~4000K with a gasoline dedome of the SW50 tint bin.

I do not really care much about bins, it's not gonna really make a difference against the impact significance of a warmer tint.

By the way, just found out this bargain: Cree XHP35 E4 Neutral White 5000K LED Emitter with 20mm x 1.5mm DTP Copper MCPCB

Cheers ^:)

Thanks for the link, but that’s a domed XHP35 - much less throw.

You’re seeing E4 binned XHP35 HIs in 4K or 5K?

If I link this, are there going to be none left when I want to order one?

LOL! I thought I was the only one who suffered with that phenomenon!

Thanks for the link, hadn’t seen those.

Wonder where he sourced those? I searched a few parts numbers and came up with nil, Cree doesn’t have a part number of course, but you can extrapolate from the existing numbers.
