Storing batteries

What is the best way to store batteries when not being used for a couple of weeks, to a couple of months.

Rechargeables or primaries?

Rechargeables, yeah forgot that bit.

Nimh or lion?

li-on.

For lions charge them to 3.7 volts and then every couple of months check them and recharge them to 3.7

Thanks, any reason why 3.7v, and does it matter if they are protected (pcb).

Then their capacity doesn’t decrease as much. I have a table for that on my comp but not at home sorry. The pcb doesn’t affect it.

Also iirc anywhere from 3.6 to 3.8 will work but 3.7 is slightly better.

Is 3.7v fresh off the charger?

Yep.

Good info, now i know, thanks

In fact, 3.6V is best for NNP cells (Panasonic NCR-series, e.g. the 2900/3100mAh 18650’s), 3.7V is best for classical LiCo (e.g. Sanyo UR18650FM, and most 2200-2600mAh cells) and 3.8V is best for IMR & LiPolymer.

Oh ok, thanks. :8) I guess I should store mine at 3.6 volts.

I have a xtar 6 bay charger, how do i get to the magic 3.6v

Do i just keep checking the volts every so often?

Yep that’s what I do on my intellicharge.

Or if you know they are fully discharged thenyou can use the charging current and a charging graph to huestimate it will take say 2 hours 20 min.

Charge fully, insert in fave torch, turn on torch.

Check after a few minutes, then check again, and again, and again, and again.....

That is probably easier. :open_mouth:
