Sounds like the boost circuit burned out. If it has warranty they should easily honor the repair for you, that is, if it really matters much to you.

I think most people mostly use this light with AAs. So I guess it matters. Who wants to have a defective light anyway when you can ask for a replacement.

i got mine from HKE too.
i once had to send back mine (3.85€ return shipping costs paid) and i got a brand new E03: just the torch, wrapped in bubble wrap. no retail packaging, docs, ..
great service from them!
tell them how much it would cost you to return the faulty torch and that it's uneconomical and THEN ask them for a suggestion ("..blah blah.. yaddä yädda .. blahh .. So do you have a couple of nice suggestions now, please?")
They do have spare parts (pill, switch, lens, etc), btw.
