Did I just fry my 18650

Hi there, hoping you all can provide some input here. I just got a new multimeter and was attempting to measure the voltage of a Trustfire 18650 battery. I accidently set up the red probe incorecctly in the 10A port vse voltage port. After a few seconds of seeing no voltage I realized my mistake. The battery got a bit warm. Now when I test it correctly I get no voltage. I tested it on my Cottonpicker charger and same thing, no voltage. When I plug the charger into my USB port it registeres 3.8 volts and appears to charge but when I remove it from the USB the display goes blank again.

Did I just kill my battery.

I am afraid to keep it on the charger to see what happens.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I did the same thing to one of my trustfires…it went “zzssstt”…removed the protection circuitry and it worked as an unprotected cell…wrapped it up in electrical tape and has worked for over a year now…

Does your battery have protection? Can you post a picture of the battery? Preferably B- as macro as possible?

The battery is a protected Trustfire Flame. So it sounds like the protection circuitry is fried but the battery itself is OK?

mine was…the circuit did it’s job and sacrificed itself vs the battery…i took a knife and cut the circuit off and then wrapped it in elec tape…

The protection on my TFs always worked. When I shorted them, they went to 0 right away. Protection kicked in and a few secs later it worked again. They shouldnt get warm, maybe those are fake or sth.. where did you get them?

I don’r recall where I got them, but it was from one of the Chinese sites. I removed the protection circuitry hoping the battery would be OK, but still nothing. Oh well, just a few bucks into the trash.

I just did the same thing to one of my silver utrafire 14500 900mah . The battery was fresh off the charger. It reads 4.1v but only lights up my peak el capitan abut the same as a alkaline. The other ultrafire i have was discarged to 2.8v and when I charge it only goes to 3.8v but its still twice as bright as the one I shorted. I’m afraid to charge it. Should I try charging it or just toss it? >)

It's good to have you here, whateatsrabbits!
