New Duracells with 10 year shelf life; what do y'all think about that?

I’m guessing it’s just marketing hype. Here is the press release.

Alkaline batteries with 10 years of self life?

They will leak?

They WILL leak in 2 years

I’m more interested in the new Duracell lithiums popping up in supermarkets around the UK. Maybe they’re planning on phasing out alkalines and this 10 year shelf life is something to do with that, or a way of helping them match the new lithium tech in some ways.

Here in Japan , Panasonics have their Alkalines already on the 10years list for a while!
Panasonic Evolta!

note that they say “sitting in a drawer”

to me, that translates to “they’ll leak if left in your device”

Perfect for Preppers!

Nope, Energizer Ultimate Lithiums are, with their 15 years shelf life AND no leaks. :Р

  • several years old alkalines build up MASSIVE internal resistance and become unusable in anything other than remotes and wall clocks.

I guess Panasonic has a good reputation… so I will probably take them on their word! 10year shelf life.

(Panasonic have Eneloops, and many great 18650s under their roof, so I guess these Evoltas may be taken seriously)

those things have no track record yet

lithiums have

end of story. will check back on this thread after 10yrs

+1 Ultimate lithiums are great.

It’s possible , but most likely a marketing gimmick.

Even if it’s true, it won’t change the way I handle my alkaline stash.
Maximum of 1 year, then they come out for use… Put the new ones away, put the old ones to use. Replace as necessary. I was taught F.I.F.O. as a child. Mom pulled the older food stuff off the shelf , put the new behind it. I do it without even thinking about it.
