more powerful then the sky ray king

Hi guys
This is my first post, thanks for all the wonderful info,

Im looking to buy another beast light, i already have the olight sr-90 but its useless for normal use.

I am so close of getting the SkyRay king, before i do is there anything that really would be noticibly/significantly more powerful then the KING? would the Trj-12, TR-j18 or Trustfire X100, really be noticibly more brighter.

Anything to help me make a decision would be appreciated, also feel free to mention another light, but it must be noticibly brighter. I just really like the compactness of the KING

Thanks
Nick

Welcome Nick,

How about APEX 5xT6 ?

Welcome to the family, nick.w!

Welcome to the family, Nick!

The Apex Pok linked to would be the only one.

Excellent, thanks, so its between the APEX and the KING, this is a hard one. I just love the Kings switch in the front, very convenient. If you guys think the Apex is much brighter and has good run time, then i think i will go for it?!

Welcome Nick. I dont believe anyone has the APEX yet. The seach option is your friend.

Really? noone has it yet? I dont want to be the guinee pig, what about if it is underdriven, unreliable, low run time? e.t.c. I cant risk all that, i wont be getting another light for a while. (well thats what i say now anyway) already the KING has had very good reviews…… i dont know

Trustfire X100. At 3350 lumens OTF, you’d need that to be visibly above SR King’s about 2200L OTF. APEX is 25% above SR King, borderline visible increase only.

And how is the runtime on the x100

$100 for flashlight. $50 for batteries, buy them for me and I will tell you. Its on my wishlist. S)

lol, $50 for batteries!!!

The other thing about the x100 is it's a huge, long torch. Nothing remotely compact about it.

In a compact triple XM-L, the DRY is the brightest option out there but it's not really noticeably brighter than the King. The quality of it is also not as good as the King. The King can run on high until the batteries run out of juice. Don't try that with the DRY.

I own the DRY and the King. I had the DRY first and resisted the King because I didn't think anything could be better and I didn't like the idea of only high & low modes. I couldn't have been more wrong. I finally caved and have to admit I'm crazy about the King. I never give the DRY a second thought and reach for the King when I want light and lots of it. I can't say I miss the medium either because the low is the perfect amount of light for most situations. You honestly won't regret buying it.

+1, couldn't agree more.

Ps. I have the APEX coming "soon" (shipped already, may take about two weeks to arrive)
Pps. Welcome to BLF Nick!

Yeh i have definately come to the conclusion that the King is a very bright reliable light, and the only issue people have with it is the modes.(its fine for me) Now that you mentioned the Apex, you have my curiousity aroused, does anyone know anything about it as yet. It seems like it has to be visibly brighter then the King? but maybe run time is bad or its underdriven e.t.c. I dont want to buy the king only to realise that the Apex is the next best thing to hit the budget light market… I have to be a bit patient, unless someone has some good info.

Thanks for the welcome

Time will tell about the Apex/Solarstorm. Runtime will definitely not be better than the King due to running 5 emitters compared to 3. That will be slightly offset in that the Apex will not drive the emitters as hard as the King does, therefore the brightness will not be that noticeably brighter then the King. The Apex will definitely be a floodier light than the King due to the smaller reflectors. For the exact same reasons, the King will out throw the Apex because it has larger reflectors and already is quite a good thrower for a triple XM-L.

If you want the floodiest light possible go with the Apex. If you want nearly as floody but able to see down range you will want the King. All that is conjecture until we get an honest review of the Apex but basing it on physics and an educated guess it should work out just as I suspect.

Of coz with so many lumens, the runtime would go down correspondingly. You can operate it with 3 x 18650 (good ones ith protection please), cnqualitygoods does have the 26650 -> 18650 sleeves.

But with 3 x 26650, you ought to be able get about 1.3-1.5hrs total on high @ 3300L OTF range. CNQ has TF 26650 for 34 bucks for 3?

It’s slightly shorter and slightly smaller than a TK70 with 3S tube. Pretty ok.

BTW, it should be like about 39k cd on 3S.

Welcome to BLF Nick.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

You have a very bright light with incredible throw already. Simply put: YOU WILL NOT GET MUCH BETTER. Even going from your 2000 lumen to a 4000 lumen light will only appear to be about 50% brighter. Woopie. You’d need 8000 to make it appear twice as bright.

Since these lights will not throw nearly as well as the Olight SR90, they won’t even LOOK brighter! Sure they are more floody but who cares? Olight will certainly light up an area sufficiently right?

To prove this to yourself, take any ole MC-E or SST50 or basically wahtever you have. Note how many lumens it has. Compare it to your Olight. Not the CENTER but the SPILL. You should notice that having however many times more lumens does not make it look that many times brighter.

There is no reason 1 light should be able to do everything either. Theres nothing wrong with getting…. a smaller light! Yes, you can get a Fenix TK41 or any ole equivalent light and produce from 2 to 1000 lumens with a normal balanced beam pattern. Then you can take the Olight on camping trips or whatever when you need it, and use the smaller light around the house.

Aloha and welcome to BLF nick!
