Ok Guys-You Have Only 1 Flashlight To Recommend To Someone-What Would It Be

As the title goes, what flashlight would you recommend to a friend, relative newbie, or somone who wants a good all around flashlight with a very bright useable beam with some good throw? Now this doesn’t mean really a EDC flashlight only, but it can if you wish. But I’m talking really more about a good flashlight to use around the house or to take out in the woods or fields, or to go frog gigging with or what have you. Price and value should come in to the equation.

Now remember this is only 1 flashlight.

Here’s my pick.

FandyFire STL-V6-why-because it offers great value for the money and is super bright and has some excellent throw. All this for about $45 shipped to your door. There are other lights that I can think of that may out throw it and are better quality, but they cost quite a bit more and don’t give you a better value for your money in my honest opinion.

L2P with T6 3C LED and DrJones' ramping driver.

Newbieproof with 1 cell, any brightness you want, smart UI. Oh, and it looks great.

L2i with a neutral XML and a E1320 custom driver. It runs off aaas with the ability to use lion if they want to.

Now guys I’m not really talking about mod lights that have custom drivers. I’m talking about flashlights that people can buy from stores, dealers, or off ebay.

If I have not any flashlights before, I will get….

Flashlight with Dual USB Portable Charger (3x18650) $41.04
Budget flashlight but more than flashlight.

Ok then a l2i with a neutral XML that goes low-med-high.

I dont really recommend power LED flashlights to folks because pretty much all lights in the sub 50$ budget s*ck on Eneloops, and for sure i wont recommend them LiIon's and LiIon chargers. If they insist i would whisper to them a single word: eagletacDOTcom

inception. and i win.

:P

A lot of people that express interest in, for example an L2P with the UF XM-L drop-in, sometimes hesitate to take the lithium-ion battery/charger plunge. Or, do not/not willing to grasp the safety issues that come with a torch that can become 140ºF very quickly.

For that reason (and several others) my wife carrys a 4Sevens Quark AA2 Tactical. A newbie won't light the couch on fire with a Quark, it has serious R5 output and a bunch of fancy modes that are hidden away where they belong. Works with primaries or NiMH and is pretty much bullet-proof.

You could do a lot worse for $50.

Tough because I’m happy with lithium’s but wouldn’t sleep if I put an un-disciplined friend onto them. Lithium safe, good c8 xm-l. (Xintd-c8, kd c8 3 mode etc) lithium unsafe, um, not sure yet, probably Asda 3 AAA 3w led, then let me play with it once they want more….

I got my stepson (11) one of these for cub scouts and even out of the blister pack, their pretty good. I’m going to buy another, mod it, and if it goes well, mod his more extremely and swap the pills over, they will also take an 18650 and not go poof out of the packet

EagleTac P20A2 MKII

edit: That’s an excellent choice weiser701 and it comes with the sleeve for using 1-18650 also so you have 3 options of power and it does all your looking for…

Something like the Cyclone C88 because it takes 3 x AA (not AAA) as well as the powerful 26650. It’s not too big and not too small. I think it’s the perfect light for the average consumer if he/she is only getting one light. I’m still a believer the 26650/3 x AA is the perfect format as an all-purpose flashlight.

Flashaholic - C8

Nonflashaholic - Shiningbeam Caveman

Fenix LD12: just a little above 100 lumens, nice flood and throw, single AA, belt or pocket, long runtimes @ 4 power modes

Good choice tatasal. When ever I give a light as a gift I give this out. They always seem to amaze people.

Caveman 2 AA well made reliable easy great all arround light

There ya go

NFlashaholic: UF-980L, BT-950L or Keygos KE-5 over any C8 due to better throw while maintain some flood. Perfect all around light if you had only one.

Non-flashaholic: Shining beam Caveman

Thrunite TN31

Jetbeam BA20, I would probably recommend the Caveman if I was in the US but it isn’t available from within the UK.
