SMALL SUN ZY-T16 XM-L T6 5-Mode 1200-Lumen LED Flashlight - (1/2*26650)

This inexpensive Small Sun, 1/2*26650 flashlight really caught my attention, so I placed an order for one. I’ll post my impressions of it to the forum when it arrives in a few weeks.

Small Sun Flashlight

I was really hoping you had it already!

Looking forward to it.

It looks it will be a great light, hopefully it is well heat-sinked, anyway there is plenty room to improve it, and it can be a grear thrower for a few bucks.

Manafont shipped it out really quick, so hopefully I’ll have it soon. I’m hopeful it’ll be a good one.

You will probably get the best $ per meter of thrown light, I hope you get it asap to see how it performs.

Argggg, I finally pulled the trigger too.

I have been refunded for an HID that was never shipped even with tracking from verosale ( AVOID ).

I plan to mod too

It is about $12 cheaper than the HD2010, and can run on 2*26650.

Let’s see how good it is built, the reflector diameter looks like will be the same or very close.

It is about 10mm longer with 1*26650, I am unsure if they are on the head only, but I still believe they share the same reflector, we will have to wait to see it…

I have just seen the head is the same ( or copy) of the UltraFire UF-T60 .

Glad to see Yavi and POK are both on board with the light. I’ve been shying away from 18650 lights the last couple of months and going for what I think may be a good value in 26650 types. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one too.

Hi gang,

I received my SMALL SUN ZY-T16 from Manafont today in a heavily bubble wrapped package. The light arrive in mint condtion and in great working order. I first tried it with 2x26650 Trustfire 5000mAh cells and got .85a at the tail and with 1x26650, it read 1.85a. The hotspot focus was as sharp as a well adjusted Ultrafire HD-2010. Funny thing is using the supplied extension tube for 2x26650’s, you get a tail cap lockout feature due to fully anodized threads. Using it on 1x26650, it’s non-anodized.

Light feels great and nice weight, doesn’t feel cheap at all and the reflector looks excellent. After I get some photos posted in another thread for the Trustfire Diving light, I’ll get a couple of beam shots posted for this Small Sun.

Thanks Richie!!

do you have any tear-down pics? I am curious to see how this light conducts heat away from the LED.

thanks

I’ll make sure I include some tonight when I post the photos.

Good to know you like yours while I wait for mine.

Only con it is underdriven, but that can be fixed in the future.

Here’s the parts breakdown and a couple of beam shots. I figured the best light to compare it to is the Ultrafire/Fandyfire HD-2010.
After disassembling it, I find it to be an excellent candidate for modding and it should be very simple to say the least. I see no problem with heat dissipation with this light and should easily handle much higher current, at least as much as an Ultrafire/Fandyfire HD-2010.

This is the first Small Sun light I’ve purchased. I’m so impressed with the build quality, I intend to take a second look at their offerings and see what else of their lineup I may like.

SIDE NOTE The lens is 57.40mm diameter and 3.04 thick. Driver diameter is 22.04mm

I’d consider the anodizing to be flawless and a semi-gloss finish that I really like. It also has a great feel in the hand.
However, on my example, the SmallSun logo is slightly tilted, but otherwise perfect.

This flashlight easily unscrews to its individual parts.

Very nice pill and driver as measured, 22.05mm. I guess any 22mm high power driver should work great.

+B spring allows flat top or button top batteries.

Emitter with a well made and self aligning wire protector.

Rear of head and ample cooling fins.

It won’t be a problem for this head to relieve itself of heat modding with a higher power driver.

Reflector has a wonderful mirror finish and appears flawless.

Fandyfire HD-2010. The Fandyfire beats the Small Sun, but not by much. I estimate about 100+ lumens brighter.

that is a pretty impressive beam. is it a lot better on a 26650 than a 18650?

i forgot to say thank you for the info and great beamshot.

Hey CabFrank, the light doesn’t come with sleeves to use with 18650’s, although I do have them from other lights, I never thought to try it. If it’s important, I can toss them in and let you know, but I doubt it would be a problem with the driver it has.

but no, not really important at all. i don’t even have a 26650 battery yet. i was just wondering because i am thinking about getting one for the hd2010, and i figured i could cross-compare. i’m sure eventually i will get a 26650, i’m just dragging my feet because, well because financially i should.

Hi Frank,

I tossed in my Trustfire TR-J12, 26650 to 2x18650 converter sleeve and it worked perfectly using Redilast 3100’s and got .92a on HIGH. I also tried it with the single sleeve and one 18650 Redilast 3100 and tailcap reading was 1.58a. So if you have the sleeves leftover from another light, it works like a charm.
