FS: Match's Black Beauty 3xpg mini-mag *Sold*

Folks,

If anyone is interested, I have for sale a custom 1x14500 mini-mag that I just recently built.

Specs:

  • New mini maglite cut down to 1x14500 size.
  • Pure solid copper heatsink milled from 1" barstock
  • 3x XP-G NW emitters 4000k
  • Custom brass tailcap with built in clip. Non removable - battery loads from the top.
  • 3 Mode LMH with mode memory
  • Due to the current draw on high, I recommend using good 14500's. Testing was done with AW, but my old trustfires worked as well.
  • Out the Front Lumens are as follows:
    • High = 650L @2.4amp tailcap draw
    • Med = 198L
    • Low = 31.6L

This is one of the brightest lights for its size, especially in NW tint. Due to the copper pill being an extremely tight press fit into the head, heatsinking is outstanding...and will get hot very fast on high. If you're looking for a "WOW" light, this is it. Of all the mods I've made, these little guys always get the most attention. I've been carrying the prototype of this one along with a thrunite Ti on the keychain and find that covers just about all my flashlight needs.

I tried something different for the tailcap, as you'll see in the following pics. The brass tailcap was cold welded (I think that's the term) in place, and should never come out. What I did was oversize the fitment of the tailcap into the base by ~0.001" then dropped it into a cup of liquid nitrogen to allow it to fit into place. Once warmed back up to room temperature and expanded it'll most likely take an act of Congress to remove. The sides were drilled and fitted with a SS wire clip, which is very stiff. A cut-out was made in the base of the tailcap for the spring...so no battery crushing here. Due to final negative contact being made from the top of the body to the base of the driver, less than 1/8 turn is required to go from ON to OFF.

I'm sure I'm missing something, but y'all can remind me by asking questions in the comments.

Enough typing...on with the pics:

Pill

Pill with emitters mounted (Note, this photo is of a previous build, but exactly the same sans spring on the + contact):

The finished light:

Brass tailcap has been mates up perfectly and is nicely rounded on the edges.

Comparison shot:

L to R: Stock MM, random DX 1aa zoomie, Romison RC-29, Tank E07, ThruNite T10, Custom MM, Zebralight H51. (note it's the shortest of the bunch, and only slightly wider than the zebra at the head.)

Guess that covers it... As my first official Custom Sale, I'm still a bit apprehensive on throwing my work out there (insecurity thing...don't ask). With that in mind, I'll make this promise: If you get the light and don't love it...for any reason...(looks ugly in hand, smells funny, randomly explodes, etc...) let me know and I'll refund the the price sans shipping. We all hate buyers remorse, so I figure that should help some....cause it's not cheap.

** UPDATE ** 8/11/2012

Just for pure curiosity, I'm going to drop the price $5 every day until it sells. The good news is I meant to do this 3 days ago, so the current price is $80 + shipping.

$70+shipping

Will update this daily here.

Shipping will be whatever it costs... in the US, @ $5...overseas, I have no idea...

Best Regards,

Match

Wow! An amazing light. I hope this will go quick so I don't buy it. :P Where exactly did you get liquid nitrogen?

Call it an occupational perk

Wowww! That is gorgeous!! Someone buy it before I get home and have PayPal access lol

Great job, Match! That’s almost as bright as one of my micro mags and probably a bit floodier. Love what you did with the tail cap!

Beautiful work.

OK to ask what driver was utilized? Are the LED’s wired in series or parallel?

Thanks

Another beauty, Match!

Amazing work as usual Match!

That is one sharp looking rig. Nice work Match. Worth every penny to the lucky buyer.

Because of FOW syndrome, Foy can't be "lucky."

If I didn’t already have this - Torchlabs Pocket,

I would be all over it. Love the size.

Thanks for the compliments folks! The driver is a 7135 based atmel with a few extra 7135 chips stacked and the emitters in parallel.

The first one I built, and still carry, is good for just under 1100L OTF off of an AW IMR (diffrent driver)....but, it's a CW tint, heats up even faster, and isn't nearly as "secksay" as this one

First post updated. Check out the last paragraph.

Day 4.... $75+shipping.

Someone really needs to step up to the plate and take this very unique and very powerful light!

It’s just Awesome gentleman.

When you buy this, women will desire you, men will respect you and children will run in fear.

LOL...thanks for the plug Justin!

Day 5....price $70+shipping

I really can’t believe this. If I could afford it this light would be my prized possession. A totally unique light with outrageous power from a true craftsman.

Wow, $70 for this is amazing. This has got to be worth more than just $1 more than a Zebralight H502.

Alas, I cannot afford it either.

If this drops to $65 I will buy it. Someone stop me.

Unbelievable. Might be time to turn to the CPF Marketplace where folks understand and appreciate craftsmanship. Sad but true. :frowning:
