18650 in UK?

Hi!

Sorry for the probably stupid question but I’m new to Li-ion tech.

I have a Zebralight SC600w on its way (slowly!) and I was after something to feed it. I could do with a reliable set of cells as I work abroad a lot in remote regions.

I’ve picked up bits and pieces of info on 18650’s but its got to the point where the more I read, the more I realise I don’t know!

Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Am I right in thinking they are pretty much the same as many of the other Panasonic based cells out there? I think these are the cheapest I’ve come across- Too good to be true?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciative as I feel like I’m going round in circles!

We're glad that you joined, gravelmonkey!

Here is a good uk store for 18650’s… welcome
18650 cells

Ah! Bingo! Not sure how I missed that site with all the searching I did!

It appears I am one of many waifs and strays joining BLF due to CPF crashing!

This ebay seller is a member on BLF http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Panasonic-3100mAh-NCR-18650A-protected-3-7v-batteries-case-/290755762362?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_Batteries_SM&hash=item43b264d8ba#ht_4359wt_1158

I have bought 3 pairs of cells and a charger from him recently, and would recommend him.

Cheers
Matt

All the recommendations are far to high.
You can get the same batteries for $ and not £

Bought my last lot here: xtar uk

Reasonable price, free delivery and arrived next day, more importantly almost 100% sure they’re genuine!

n.b. These are 18700, the extra 5mm in length made them too long for my Ultrafire WF-139 Charger, which required a bit of modifiaction with a file to make them fit.

Don’t forget Tony at Fenix, Nitecore, Zebralight, Eagletac, Olight and Maxpedition

Not the cheapest, but very good customer service and next day shipping in UK, and if you know where to look you should find a discount code for a few % off.

Fantastic! Thanks for all the help everyone, much appreciated!

GM

I realise that these are not UK based , but I have had some and the delivery was 10 days (international signed for) … I have two more coming in the post plus I will be getting some more next month as spares.

Hiya March Brown! Good to see you over here. I look forward to reading your latest adventures with the grand children

Took them camping today … Their Mum and the two boys aged 14 and 7 … Because their Karate club have organised the get-together , the club requested a field away from all the other campers so they could have sing-songs (and fights probably) … If this had been America there would have been Bears and Pumas everywhere … We don’t have many of those in South Wales … The grass hadn’t been cut in that field so putting the tent up would not be easy … Come to think of it , the tent (being low) did not have standing height inside and as the grass was uncut it would give a pretty green glow to the inside of the tent as the daylight shone through the grass … I was going to say sunlight but this is Wales and there isn’t really an expression for “rain-light”.

Being Wales , of course it was raining and I had to help to put the tent up … It has sort-of slots (or tubes) to put the thin tubular poles through … In the wet , it was very difficult … A bit like putting a condom on a snake … The tent was eventually erected in the windy (and rainy) conditions.

Daughter and the two boys were dripping wet “like drowned rats” as the saying goes … Naturally they didn’t take wellies with them or umbrellas or wet weather gear … No torches either.

At great personal risk (to my wallet) I let them borrow my Maglite 2D fitted with Fusion 36 and two 18650’s in it … I also gave them two other torches … A cheap 3 AAA torch and a Maglite LED 3AA … I have lost count of the torches that I have given them … I reckon that they think that when the light stops working , the torch can be thrown away.

Anyway , I was only the driver and they will be on their own for four days (three nights) with the fighting club … Rain is forcast for the next few days so they will have to find somewhere to dry out the tent … As I left , I told them that I would visit them if necessary in the Pneumonia Ward in the local hospital.

The site has got a clubhouse (food , drink and music) but it is quite a walk away through the long grass and mud and unmade roads … I don’t think my Daughter knows what she has let the family in for … I’m fully expecting a cry for help as her husbands car won’t take the family plus all the camping gear.

I’m home having a well earned beer (maybe two) having had a quick shower and dry clothes … If I have some more to drink then I won’t be able to drive.

Shame innit !
.

Hate to break it to you, but there aren't that many bears or pumas in America. I hike and camp a lot and have never seen a cougar(puma) and bears only a handful of times.

They really did this trip two weeks too late, the weather at the start of the month was awesome in north wales. 8) welcome march, great to have another UK member here.

The weather was great here in South Wales a couple of weeks ago too … The Karate Club organised this trip and even specified a field away from the rest … It IS a field ’cos the grass is high and being beside a river there is plenty of slippery mud and cars getting bogged down … They might have lots of champions and junior champions in that club , but weather prediction and common sense doesn’t come into the belt classification … You can’t get Brown and Black belts in common sense and weather prediction … I don’t suppose that it matters what colour belts they are wearing ’cos after they have rolled around in the mud , everyone will be brown belts.

We have tried to contact our Daughter by mobile phone , but there’s no reply … Maybe her phone is waterlogged … My Maglite 2D fitted with the Fusion 36 and two good protected 18650’s could be under water at this very moment … It’s very worrying.

Think I’ll have a large Brandy and Stones Green Ginger.
.

I agree, at this point, more beer is the only answer…

Heck, there’s a tidy sum in flashlights to worry about there

Still, I look forward to the next installment, keep us informed.

March Brown - Do you know of Splot near Cardiff? That’s the only part of South Wales I’ve been to. I was back in the 80s, my sister married a welshman from there.

Hi March, I’m in tom jones town, lol, anywhere near you>>

Apparently they had a Barby (the eating type not the doll type) and apart from the cold and wet , it was OK … They will be going home later today (days earlier than expected) because of the cold and the fact that the club-house (and showers and toilets) is over half a miles walk through the mud and muck … No stamina these kids … Too used to warm dry houses with bathrooms and toilets readily available … When I was a kid the toilet was down the yard with no electricity and only yesterdays newspaper to cater for personal hygene … Central heating ? … What was that ? … Winter was good ’cos you could scratch funny faces on the ice on the inside of your bedroom window … As I said , “No stamina these kids !”

Anyway , several (many) cars were stuck in the mud at the site and had to be pushed out by mud-stained volunteers … Apparently the cars can’t get into the far camping field now and all the gear has to be carried to a safer parking place where the mud is less.

I am glad that I am doing some decorating at the moment and can’t be disturbed or called on to fetch them back from the wilderness … Don’t know yet if my beloved 2D (modified) is still alive … We can only hope.

Gotta go now that I’ve finished my coffee and chocolate biscuits , to put another coat of emulsion paint on … It dries so quickly in a nice warm house.
