Looking for a HID or xenon flashlight that can outhrow Fenix TK70 or TR-J12. This is what I’ve been looking at on ebay.
any advice is welcome.
If I were you I would buy this one instead.
The thing about those ebay HID lights or any HID flashlight with a smaller head is that you lose a lot of your beam for throw with such a small reflector vs one that is bigger. A lot of the beam goes out in spill in otherwords. Go watch the video of the one 2100 posted. That light is on my to-do-list. I think you will like it a lot better for throw.
Right now you can get one for $98.01 shipped to your door in 3 to 7 days using DHL.
This light will smoke that ebay light by probably 3 times the throw roughly.
i wasnt even in the market for a hid, but since you said i can get one for under $100 shipped….its kinda tempting.

about $25 for a 55w ballast & $15 or less for two bulbs.
Make sure you get the correct bulb type (H1,H3, etc) and desired temp. I like 5000k.
Your still looking at close to $90 buying the light and parts and then you got to do the work. Be better in the long run just to buy the light I mentioned.
DIY is not for everyone but some do enjoy it.
so that green 55w kunfine is gonna be brighter than the 80 w hid’s from ebay and aliexpress? i think i remember seeing something similar in one of these threads….called a sanmak or something
If stupid Aliexpress would take my credit card I would’ve had a sanmak.
Well, a 55W won’t have more lumens than an 80W HOWEVER, it will have more than 2x the throw.
An 85W ebay HID reads around 240k lux @ 1 meter.
A 55W kunfire HID reads at 550k+, not measured at 1 meter, by calculated by interpolation.
BTW, I only have an 85W ebay hid, and these numbers are from other random threads on blf and cpf
so the 85 w will seem brighter but the 55w will throw waaay further?
and are you saying the kunfire is better than the sanmak?
StanleyHID, sure it’s only 35 watts, but sometimes there on sale at Walmart in the USA. My last trip to Florida I scooped up one for $70 a year or two go. It hurls pretty good, and the build quality is great
I personally like a compact flashlight style 35W HID (6000K), bright and throws well.
