Are you prepared for Hurricane Isaac?

Anyone in the path of the storm starting to make preparations? I got a feeling we are going to get some part of it here, I remember Ike left us a week without power, got to use all my lights  , but sucked because of the heat :~

What plans do you have in case of a natural disaster?

I bought an extra case of beer , you just can't be too prepared .

You guys may be chuckling, but I don’t even drink beer anymore - and it’s an essential part of my emergency planning !

If the ATMs aren’t working, beer is an excellent barter material for post-storm assistance.

Heck, when my buddies take me offshore fishing in Florida, I pack a couple of cases of beer to trade to the shrimp trawlers for bags of shrimp or cull to use as bait. There is no fresher or better.

I’ve got lots ’o beer (all good stuff, no crappy mass market American pisswater swill) and a natural gas/propane powered 20kw automatic backup generator (which will probably never be needed after I spent 10 grand on it/installation). It also helps that I’m 400+ miles from the coast. I also have a couple of flashlights handy.

STELLA !

Stella… a.k.a. Wife Beaters. Apparently the tipple of choice of Brits that like to pound on their old lady :open_mouth:

The last time I lost power in a storm I went to Lowes and bought a battery powered fan. That was 2 years ago but only used it one time since then but it was well worth it. On a hot summer night with no air moving gets really hot, this fan did great.

I was living in Houston (Jersey Village) when Ike hit. No power for 11 days. Have 5500w Robin for power and a 220v AC window unit. The gen powered the AC, fridge, freezer, lights, TV and a computer 24/7 with no problems. Would be nice to have a whole house NG 20k gen for the central ac instead of huddling in den/kitchen/mbr with a window unit. BTW the insurance Co reimbursed us for the 8/10 gallons of gas used a day.
