1xAA Flashlight <$25 Recommendation

Hi guys, Looking for a flashlight for my bro with a MAX $25 budget.

Here are the requirements.

- Current regulated (constant brightness)

 • At least 2 modes (LO-HI) Need a 1-1.5 hours on High at least.

Here is the first one based on my research starting here.

- DQG AA ($24 Group buy)

 • Balder SE-1 w/ Cree XM-L T6 (AA/14500) $22.99

Currently researching other options and will add to this thread as I find them.

This?
I see no reviews on this flashlight nowhere.

I have that TK-568, with a nimh it is a bit less bright than a Fenix LD15 (115 lumen).
With a 14500 lithium-ion it is much brighter.
The beam is a bit ringy with a smaller spot than the Fenix LD15.
The color is also much cooler (whiter) than the Fenix.

Build quality is very good, mode memory works like it should

I think it is about 100 lumen on a nimh, and 200 on a lithium-ion battery.
Low is very low, and should last for many hours.

AA Nimh
High 1,75A
Mid 0,50A
Low 0,066A

14500 lithium-ion
High 1,17A
Mid 0,28A
Low 0,036A

I mean DinoDirect link? How about using it with the extender?

http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-115/Romisen-RC-dsh-G2-III-Cree/Detail
It looks like it only has the 1 mode

2x nimh Eneloop:
High 0,95A
Mid 0,28A
Low 0,055A

In have bought the TK-568 at DX, the extender came from Manafont (the extender got here a few weeks earlier than the flashlight).

I don’t have 2 extenders, but tested it with 3 Eneloops:
High 1,29A
Mid 0,3A
Low 0,04A

It would work perfect with 3 nimh batteries.

I have the two lights you are entertaining. I would add the Balder SE-1 neutral. A favorite of many on BLF and still in the price range you desired. The Balder XM-L is best with 14500 Li-ons and most bright. DQG is much smaller though.

Two different and good choices. Keep us posted and good luck.

Could we get some help from some of the more advanced members?

I fear what MounainKing is looking for doesn’t exist. His second list item is 1 hour minimum run-time on high.

I’m thinking either a rather restricted high mode or a much shorter run-time.

Would someone weigh-in here and explain how to figure current in milliamps vs battery capacity.

I know I’d benefit from this discussion.

A little help please.

Thanks!

What is your question? I'd be happy to help.

I think that what you should be looking for is XX-lm that lasts for 1-1.5 hrs because the high profile of flashlights differ greatly. There are high on some flashlights that are only equivalent to low of the other flashlights.

I suggest you look at Xeno E03 if you can extend your budget a little more. It is very versatile, you can use either AA or 14500. It can out put 430-lm on high with a single 14500 battery. Plus it has very good flood. When using 14500 it can last up to 20mins at high output and 2.5hrs at low with 14500.

This was my test throw for my E03 months back. The far wall is around 28m from where I was standing. The whole area was lighted only by my E03.

I hope this helps you.

14500 - high - 430 lm - 20mins

14500 - low - 80 lm - 2.5hrs

Eneloop AA - high - 120 lm - 1hr

Control

I have a SS UltraFire C3 I'm pretty partial to:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271017556337?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Takes AA or 14500, very bright and definitely a budget buy.

Too bad the trunite deal is probably over a t10 and ti could be had for $25, I got the pair for my mum and am so impressed I’ll be getting a pair for myself next deal time.

Oh, for run time, a 1000mah battery can deliver 1a for 1h so a 2000mah battery should run a light with 1.5a draw for an hour and a half. Hope this helps.

$30 is a sweet deal but I would not be buying from them until they change their marketing scam.

what's their marketing scam? :)

That lame promo with $5 shipping.

Ah you mean the single Ti light, for which one has to pay 5$ shipping?

yah that's lame i agree.

well, unless i get FREE review samples from them, i cant be bothered with their catalog or offerings. there are much nicer website names such as Dinodirect.com or Balder

I was quite happy with my Ti from the first promo so I thought I'd order a few more to give as gifts, $5 shipping didn't sound so bad. However after adding a couple to the cart I noticed the shipping was $5 per light which was a deal breaker for me. Why not simply state the real price instead of "hiding" it in shipping cost.

Still an excellent buy for around $10.
