It claims 18,000 lumens - 18 XM-L LEDs driven hard. It's huge! It even has a cooling fan. It most certainly won't be a budget light - maybe around $2500.
Holy s***!
This should have a SOS-mode though in case you strand on the moon :D
That....is insanity. Is there at least a charge port to charge them all while in the light or will you need a closet full of chargers to keep those things powered up?
Wait, that guy gets to play with that thing and he gets to attend SHOT? No fair. :D
That is pretty insane though. Reminds of the old story about how the GAU-8 was so awesome, they had to strap a plane to it and not the other way around, and thus the A10 was born. :D
This prototype looks like it started out as a bar bet and after they had finished the battery pack and driver, they decided they might as well pull out all the stops and add a all the XM-Ls they had lying around.
From what I've read, it's a prototype portable klieg/spot light for the military. 4Sevens had some interesting stuff, including a "light bomb" - a 200+ lumen tennis ball dealie that's meant to be thrown in to a room to ruin the vision of militants like a stun grenade.
The biggest drawback isn't the price of the light, it's the price of the helicopter needed to get you far enough from the ground to not blind yourself !
That may be on the big side for EDC...but I'll have to find a way to make it work. Btw, I did some more looking and the accessories it comes with are quite nice:
and
It has a hexagonal shape too, so the idea is you can attach as many together as you want until you can burn planets.
I received an XM-L drop from KD today. I'm sure when I started the flashlight was turned off, as I tightened the head I admired the blueish reflection in the new coated lens...and then the XM-L kicked in full blast. I felt quick queasy for a couple of hours. Dear god imagine if it had been this thing! haha.
*edit*
I wonder how long the signup list for this is on CPF already :PP
Holy Christ! Im surprised he isnt hauling a deep cycle marine battery in a wagon behind him to power that thing. Perhaps its an ISS signaling device for morris code should their coms go down.
AMAZING!
At first I thought he'd be holding it on his shoulder like a bazooka.
Thanks for the video! This inspired me to start some DIY on my part. I always wondered if active cooling is a bit too much...

200 only?
I'm currently working on something similar with 5000+ lumen... :)
200 lumens can do! Paint the ball in hello kitty style it should have a very distracting factor!
I'll need this light to make the dark knight sign on the sky at night!
As you wish Lord Vader
:p
this looks nearly as big as a searchlight, which is brighter and probably cheaper.
