Hello from Missouri!

Hi everyone,

My name is Matt and I am a noob here. I am a member of other flashlight forums, and have been into the hobby since the incan days  .

I have a fairly modest collection of personal lights ranging from the 1AA tank 007 to large SST-90 maglites.

I have a question. What exactly qualifies as a “budget light”? Is there a particular price point they need to fall below to fit in here at BLF?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, nice to have you here! I haven’t seen a price standard so I guess Its whatever limit you set

Hi Matt. Welcome! Most guys think of budget as say around $30 or less. But that depends on who you ask.

Welcome to BLF! For me, I define budget value as something which can do the same as any ‘branded’ flashlight, while being significantly cheaper. I guess I’m just more of a value guy, rather than budget

Welcome to blf. I don’t think budget in this case is a dollar amount. Everyone budget is different after all. I think value is key here.

Welcome to BLF! You’ll love being here!

+1 to what Langcjl said. Value for money is really the key.

welcome to BLF

Thanks for stopping by, vestureofblood!

Hi, Matt. Welcome. I’m in the same camp as Slewflash, Langcjl, and the. Because our personal budgets vary, ultimately it comes down to value.

Welcome to BLF. It's definitely best value, which is different for everyone. We have some members here that collect them all from cheapos up to uber-expensive. For me it's mid-30's down, but I have lights that cost +$80. I would love to get some lights that cost more, but 10 years of paying for my kids to finish college has changed my definition of disposable income.... :((

WOW! Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

This forum is much more lively than I was expecting.

raccoon city,

Bringing a picture of my living room with you was a nice though. You know how to make a guy feel "right at home"

Welcome to the BLF, vestureofblood.

As others have mentioned, 'budget' can be a bit subjective. We don't belittle folk for buying a $6 light, nor scoff at those spending $100 or more - the value seems to be of greater import than the price paid.

I hope you enjoy your time here !

Welcome to the family, Matt!!

The most I've spent is $65 so like the others have said, value is the key word.

Johnny

Welcome, Matt. You’ll have fun here.

And yes, it’s a value consideration and it varies. Most of the favs around here are non-namebrand lights, and in that range, we differ, but it’s kinda like being for generic brand vs namebrand prescription drugs.

With us, it’s like we want to keep food on the table AND annoy our neighbors by sending beams through their windows! lol

Matt,

From one Missourian to another since we are the Show-Me-State - I’m going to show you 3 lights for the money that in my opinion can’t be beat. I’ll list them in the order of preference for me.

That light is my personal favorite new frog gigging light. I used it Thursday nite to get a mess of frogs. It’s got a perfect beam and is very bright and throws well with some good spill. I even dropped it in the lake for about 30 sec or so and it came up shining unscathed. I love this light.

Super thrower for the price and very bright.

Another good thower and has an aspheric lens.

These are without question some of the best budget flashlights on the market that in my opinion as well as others can’t be topped right now for the money.

Welcome! I recognize the name, you make some cool mods

Oh, it’s been disposed of alright.

Welcome to BLF Matt! So, you like modding? Well, let's see em...
