18650's and & safety

I’m new to the lithium battery arena and love the brightness of the lights. I have been reading about cells exploding/venting and now have some concerns.

1 have an ML-102 charger and it has been charging the cell to voltages around 4.17 to 4.20 volts and I check them as it goes along,

My cells are sanyo and samsung pulled from laptop batteries and a few A&TB

I have a stock uf2100 for a light and was thinking about getting more but now have reservations about going lithium.

My concerns are for my kids as they love to play with flashlights - as much as I do, maybe more.

how much should I be worried about a cell failure and are better “safe chemistry” batteries really any safer ? as I have read about other brands popping and catching fire as well.

Thanks

I would not even let kids to play with Ni-Mh batteries and flashlights with ni-mhs ( I think extremely safe).

From sony cycle energy label:

I only let the little ones play with AA/AAA lights & I keep an eye on them at that. I don’t know enough about your charger to give advice. I only use top of the line batteries. Others will chime in with more concise info.
