Worth buying old lights?

Well just going thru some old threads and since I did buy a older light and was semi-suprized by it. I was wondering if it’s better to buy older flashlights? Such as under 1000 lumens ones etc…. Since going back from J12 to x6 was a pretty good step. I’m thinking of a old fenix TK41 & SUNWAYMAN T40CS. Also inferior EDCs well compared to my Trustfire Mini that is.

It’s worth buying any light that meets your needs/preferences. The Proton Pro (which is old) is still one of my favorite and most used lights.

I’ve still got my eye on a trustfire t2, think it’ll be being bought on my birthday light spree, along with some kind of thrower and a host kit.

As I remarked the other day, the xp-g2 could rejuvenate a lot of slightly older designs with little real effort. 8)

I too am surprised by how good some of my older lights still are. My Rominsen RC-g2 is still one of my favorite lights and still impresses me for the usefulness.

My ITP C7 is still an awesome light, even if it’s not super bright by current standards.

a light with non-greenish tint on all modes is worth quite a lot to me said the troll and left

hehe, I didn’t leave, I’m still here.

Old or new, flashlights are just plain cool. If you find something intriguing, I don’t think it’s relative age in terms of flashlight development matters.

Some of the higher end lights get upgraded emitter / driver so they stay up-to-date. If you have a “most-loved” light then you could upgrade it or keep it stock, either way it’s still useful and that really all that matters.

gets used by me more than any other for typical household stuff. Maybe 42 night eyesight-saving yet moreso throwy lumens with a much appreciated forward + momentary clicky. I’ve beaten the living crap out of it as an EDC. I mean flogged. I just can’t kill it. I’ve tried. Lord, I’ve tried. It still runs as good as new. I paid $14 at Costco back in the day right before it was mfg discontinued. Amazon price is a touch ridiculous, but hey if you want an oldie-type with an ‘obsolete’ LED here it is.

I’ve found myself more interested in finding old discountinued lights than in the new models…
I guess it’s the collector virus!

I won’t buy old lights

I have been looking for some older lights with xre, xpe, or xgp in a AA format so that i can stick some xpg2’s in them and make them a super nice light!

That xpg2 is the bees-knees!!!

I largely view older lights as hosts that are in pre-upgrade configuration.

A few notable exceptions are the Fenix TK40 and Nitecore EZAA.

I edc my Aurora SH-034 in stainless steel ALL the time. I have a bunch of older lights that I rotate as my edc like the Ultrafire C3, Trustfire F23, Akoray K106, Trustfire F20, Tank007 E07, etc.

Click AA in the search tool and you’ll find many AA flashlights ,then choose the brand and the emitter type .Hope you’ll find what you need.

Quite classic models

I wish I could find another one of these.

My favourite ever AA light and the one that got me off old style incans and into Cree LEDs. Mine dropped about a foot onto the table and never worked since. Maybe I can squeeze in one of those new XPG2s, hmmm.

+1 for the G2. One of the best AA lights besides the Uniquefire AA S1.

Been looking there but not any better price, if not higher then the other regular sites that are used here at BLF. thought in that other thread you wanted suggestions of lights then they might be 50% off somethings but didnt see anything interesting that was a lower price.

Thanks anyways

Edit/added
Heres what im looking for a 1aa or 2aa that has a standard 17mm driver that you can mod into a potentially nicer light i am a super fan of the xpg2 and thats what i want to put in it. I finally just ordered a host kit from FancyFlashlight and going to make my own. Still looking for a cheaper alternative though to work with.

Anyone have a recomendation?

The search tool is "broken" as it shows also AAA when I click "AA". :(
