SKY RAY XY-600 - Anyone have this or seen a review if it.

Hi guys,

I’m thinking of buying this light to use for my nightly dog walking duty.
(or in other words, my N.H. Skunk/Deer/Fisher Cat/Bear spotter)

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/sky-ray-xy600-cree-xml-t6-6led-8000lumen-5mode-memory-flashlight-titanium-finish-418650-p-11732

I use a TR-J12 now , but it’s long and akward to use tail switch makes quick action a tough task.
It is plenty bright, but with winter coming I think it’s time to switch over to something more compact.

I really like the Sky Ray’s handle and intergrated switch. I think this will solve a lot of problems.
also worried about purchasing from Manafont, if anything is not correct on it.

Appreciate your comments or thoughts.

Thanks,

That’s a cool light. But wouldn’t any side switch design help?

Yes, a side switch would be better, but I think the handle switch would be faster “on the draw”.
I think that handle placement of a switch is a natural operating spot.

I’m sure it’s not close to 8000lms, but the light should be quite bright and easily capeable of spotting most threats before they attack.

I don’t like to leave a bright light on all the time - as it causes trouble with certain neighbors. :stuck_out_tongue:

After the storm (Sandy) passed, I thought about it and then sent in an order for one to Manafont.
This light would have been a perfect for use in the storm, I think. One hand free and one hand to work the light.
Just what you need for power outages also great for emergency room lighting. Plenty of flood, just what’s needed.

I’ll post some pictures after I receive it and take it out for a test run.

It should be like the Apex only a little brighter and a lot easier to operate, I hope.

I’m pretty sure those LED’s aren’t sitting on copper.

No way 8000 real, non-Chinese scum sucking liar lumens… My bet is 4000 lumens at best.

Every other Chinese light I have bought is about half as bright as claimed.
I just got notified today that it is shipping out via Slow Boat from “China Post”.

I still can’t find any reviews on this light, so I may have to do the first one.
When I get it, I think I’ll take it out to the old Hoosac Tunnel with some other lights for a test and post some pics.
(Hoosac = A 5 mile hole with 100+ years of carbon coating on it’s walls) A REAL lumen sucker.

Looks and switch seem pretty good but I can’t help questioning the size of the emitters. If you’re going to make something that massive, shouldn’t you at least try to cover the front with reflector? I think 7 slightly bigger reflectors is ideal since a honeycomb structure tesselates well.

You aint stoppin at this hotel kid. My hotel. The stars at night i put em there. Your ass dont ride this train.

You ain’t stopping at this hotel, kid. My hotel! The stars at night, I put ’em there. And I know the presidents, all of them. And I go where I damn well please. Even the chairman of the New York Central can’t do it better. My road, kid, and I don’t give lessons and I don’t take partners. Your ass don’t ride this train!

Well, at last the Sky Ray xy-600 has finally arrived. I must say

it is a “First Class” light with top shelf machining. No knicks or

dings and clean/lubed theads. I was a little worried about buying

from Manafont, but either I “lucked out” or they have got their act

together. Ordered on 10/31/2012, Arrived by Registered mail

11/15/2012. (not bad, for a China shipment) I specified in my order to test and pack with extra care

and they replyed that they would, and they did. Even included a full

color picture of Godzilla on the box.

The light is perfectly balanced and when you use the switch/handle,

it will make a believer of you. It is 1000% more user friendly than a

tail switch.(IMO) I am now converted and a true believer, in fact I screamed like Jake did to the reverend, that

“Now I see, This is the way ALL lights should be made”.

Reverend Cleophus James: DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT?
Elwood: What light?
Reverend Cleophus James: HAVE YOU SEEEEN THE LIGHT?
Jake: YES! YES! JESUS H. TAP-DANCING CHRIST… I HAVE SEEN THE

LIGHT!!!

I’ll get a good set of bateries from Kuma Bear and post some beam

shots soon. I’m running 4 salvaged cells (Sanyo?) now, but I would

say it is putting out lumens between the range of a TR-J18 and a

beast driver TR-J12. Plenty of light for the nightly dog walk. The

handle is just at the perfect height for lighting the path ahead with

your arm relaxed. It’s like having a pair of car headlights on your

belt.

Only complaint so far is the TOTAL lack of documentation not included with the

light. The following picture shows every bit of english writing you will

receive with the light. (The User Manual, Owners Guide, Parts Doc and

Warranty Card) - It must be tightly packed in code but will not

“unzip”. (LOL)

Nice
We are all waiting for the first review ever for this flashlight,
I hope that current at the tail cap will be at least 7.5 amps like APEX - so same amount of light but better flood light with the center t6 and a handle with a switch

That Supfire C8 sure is a good looking light. Godzilla and the RED just make it stand out that much more.
Maybe the Chinese Marketing Depts know this and glitz things up to sell sell sell… Hope you post more pics after you get it.

I will post some beam shots of the SkyRay xy-600 plus tail cap current readings after I get a set of 4 good cells in it.

I’ll hop a westbound freight and jump off at a real dark hole/test site along the beautiful Deerfield river in North Western Mass and see how much of it I can light up. I mean, like in the spirit of Doc Brown (BTF), “if your gonna do a test, do it with a little style”.

The Sun shining in the East Portal at High Noon, (1.21 Giga Lumens)

This is interesting…

If someone wants to confirm the driver on the Skyray? Its should read V1 on the outer
diameter contact ring…Same 7.5 amps driver from an Apex

I looked at the back of the pill on mine and it is like in this picture:

It reads TF 1205 - My guess would be Trustfire model# 1205.?

also

Found another seller of this light on EBay only branded as a Beamtech.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SKYRAY-8000-Lumen-6x-CREE-XM-L-T6-LED-4x-18650-Flashlight-Torch-40W-Lamp-Light-/251185879492?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item3a7bd859c4

Perhaps there is some “Mother Ship” flashlight maker factory in China that builds ALL these models for
resellers like Skyray Trustfire, etc……
I just don’t know…

I love all the Chinese specifications …. and copy paste from sellers

I am not the best electrician, not even one , but I think :

- If the flashlight was 40W it should draw about 10 ampere total from 4 parallel 18650 ( ok this could happen )

  • and if the flashlight was 40W - the best cree can give 100lm per Watt, on led no on battery , so maybe best total 4000lm

But it should be around 30W
Please Number 1 try to measure current draw on tale cap it’s still an interesting flashlight beside this numbers

I’d love to see some beamshots of this light! I just scored one on eBay at a great price….

I now have 4 good batteries from Kumabear (KeepPower 3400’s) in the light.
Will do REAL testing at tunnel this weekend or next week, but I took one quick beam shot tonight as per request of member “indenial”.
The barn is about 150 feet away light was on hi, and the Sony camera was on auto/no flash 640x??? for e-mail.
Hope it helps. The camera did not really catch how much the yard was lit up, but It’s too cold to tweak anything tonight.
