Angeleyes vs Maha / LaCrosse

If I get an Angeleyes charger - what will I miss by not getting the more expensive Maha / LaCrosse chargers?

Besides setting the charge / discharge rate (is this important?).

IMO not a lot - but then I own two of them. It seems that they are hard to find nowadays, I couldn't find one at any of the usual suspects.

You can set the charge rate - sort of

With AAs it'll give you 528mA per channel with 4 cells, 710mA with three and 1062mA with one or two.

If you want to do a break-in, you'll have to do it manually, you can't set it to do more than one cycle.

It's about 300, 400 and 700mA with AAAs.

Ok, thanks.

I guess I can do the break-in manually whenever needed (not too much, I don't have many spare batteries now).

The Angeleyes it is, then...

I think there's another one left here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Analyzer-Charger-Discharger-4-channels-with-LCD_W0QQitemZ250770516557QQcategoryZ48618QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7203848512854413490#ht_500wt_1156

If anyone is interested.

Looks like someone was indeed interested. :)

These chargers can be found in multitudes in taobao: http://search.taobao.com/search?q=angeleyes&source=item&ssid=s5-e&bcoffset=1&sort=price-asc

Cheapest is about 20$ unshipped, may be 10-15$ more shipped through a taobao agent.

has a nice gentle recharge , it can recharge fast also , tell you howmuch capacity the battery has *** very long test , days . refreshes batteries , brings dead ones back i had one that wouldnt charge in my old charger , this one fixed it , dunno how useful that is. guess its better than buying a new one right away

caring case , c and d converters , i like it glad i bought it

Looks like the Angeleyes is available again at http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Analyzer-Charger-Discharger-4-channels-LCD-/250782113560 .

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive... arrrgh, I hate shipping from the far east. :/

Hmm, an old thread but thought I'd contribute. I wouldn't touch a LaCrosse charger with a 10-foot pole.

(1) Horrendous customer service

(2) Erroneous capacity measurements [overinflated values]

(3) Notorious melt-downs, from older to newer incarnations of these chargers.

Nlee the Engineer, which I'm sure you've seen on amazon.com is well aware of these issues yet continues to do his testing/recommendations of NiMh batteries using a LaCrosse charger. There's plenty of other good chargers out there, LaCrosse is not of them. He'll defend it until the cows come home, that's his choice but many will take his reviews with a grain of salt.

WhoooaaaaCharlie!

I have two Angeleyes which between them cost less than one C9000 (Three of them would still have cost less than a C9000 delivered here) and have never regretted the purchase. I once briefly thought about a LaCrosse, but thought better of it - I could get the vastly better C9000 for the same sort of money here. The Angeleyes lacks a few features compared to the C9000, but not features that matter to me.

I sent some cells measured on the Angeleyes to a C9000 owner for testing and he got the same numbers (give or take 2%) on those cells as I did.

If it's his word against cpf's, at least it's only a grain of salt.

From what others have said over there, it isn't a grain or two but a train or two of salt.

I've had the LaCrosse meltdown. Even though mine was still functional and I got the "fixed" wall wart, anything over 500mA into 4 cells would make the charger and cells hot. The charger went into the trash and I bought a C9000.

Anyone knows where to look for AngelEyes?

Taobao is a mess, cant translate or find anything in that gibberish, Ive found of couple of agents have it, but Google cant translate it properly.

You can use MisterTao as a mediator. http://www.mistertao.com (search "angeleyes", many results)

Cheapest is 18.40$, but you'll have to add about 10$ shipping costs.

Yeah, taobao yielded about the same price, not sure if shipping was as high.

For 28$ id rather get Intellicharger V2 and some cheap 4xAA charger for the same price.

Still mighty tempted to get one as spare one :)

Well, their selling point I think is the ability to see battery voltage and to test battery capacity.

Otherwise they're not that great, I mean, charging speed is reasonable but inserting and removing batteries is awkward (especially AAA) and they fail to recharge more batteries than my GP fast charger (which has a much superior mechanism for battery insertion and removal).

Thanks for sharing!
Capacity measuring function is what Im after, its not that i NEED it given that at home I will have C9000, but it would come in handy left at my countryside home, so I can play with it there :D!

I dont NEED one, but I WANT one nevertheless :D!

As I understand there is no other charger at such price point available, all the LaCrosse clones are too expensive to get shipped to Latvia, DX has one clone for 37$ shipped but thats way too expensive for what I want it for.

And theres probably no sub 15$ battery capacity testing tool either.

If all you need is battery capacity test you can get an imax b6 clone for less than 20$ which will do the trick and will also allow you to test other types of batteries. The AngelEyes allows you to test four batteries simultaneously, though.

Sure, been thinking about that option too+it would let me charge all available consumer grade batteries, LiFePo4 included, I think it could charge even car battery?

Hmm, you might be right tho, perhaps I should just buy one for what it is, its sitting in my Ebay chargers wish list for some days, but Im still hoping to find something that will be simpler and more user friendly, since my GF might use it once in a while and she loves to use my gadgets when I show her how awesome they are lol :)

Hobby charger wouldnt interest her much :)
