Flashlight for a 7 year old

So.. I was out with my dad and little brother today and he loved playing with my Trustfire Z8. Now I want to get him a nice flashlight, but of course no LiIon. Size of the Z8 is about right, so 1 AA is the way to go.

I doubt he cares about modes or tint and it should be rather inexpensive because, well, he's a 7 year old, he will get some better lights when he's older.

But I would really prefer something without strobe.. zoom would be cool and colored flashlights are prefered.

Maybe someone has some experience already? :)

You could order one of the colored Sipik clones, 8.70 each.

+1 on the Sipik. cone did the same with his boys. It's a fun little light for any age.

you can help him build it ....

My 7 and 6-year old will get one Thrunite Ti each for Christmas…

Yes, the Sipik SK68 clones are usually great. You can even get them from Germany these days, if you’re in a hurry. Only in black, though. Just search ebay for “Cree Flashlight” and they pop right up. e.g. here: http://www.ebay.de/itm/300LM-CREE-Q5-LED-Taschenlampe-Flashlight-Outdoor-7W-/280913276559

I also just got this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Adjustable-Focus-CREE-Q5-H7-LED-Flashlight-Torch-300LM-Just-Release-ON-SALE-NOW-/160888874713

It’s similar but without all the sharp edges in case he decides to hurl it at someone’s head

Get him a SkyRay King and a seeing eye dog… J)

Little kids want clickies. Twistys just don’t have the same appeal.

I'll second or third the colored Sipik SK68 suggestion. They come in black, grey, red, blue and green.

I got my 6 and 8 year old girls a pink Tank007 E09 each. My 3 year old will have to do with a petrol station incandescent another year or so… I personally voted against the zoomables since I find them too powerful for small peoples eyes when zoomed.

I would also recommend dimming the lights somehow, maybe a diffuser disc inside the lens?

I think we all underestimate the potential damage really bright lights can to to our eyes. Our pupils dilate to the max at night, in kind of a different mode to daytime. They don’t react as quickly to bright lights. It would be a real shame to see them damaged.

Zoomies cant hurt your eyes….Yes they are intense, but harmless.

I think a young one would love the zoom feature!

I get either the Gerber Firecracker or the Gerber Omnivore. 20 lumens, easy on the eyes and well built.
There are good 9volt lights for kids too like the PALight

Simple, sturdy, affordable, not too bright for young little eyes, awesome runtimes.

Elektrolumens big bruiser, start him off as you’d like him to continue. J)

Too funny, BetweenRides, too funny. Given my relative flashlight ignorance, it is probably better that you give all my advice anyway.

As was suggested by my fine friend, I had purchased a three pack of colored Sipik 68s from Meritline with the intent of giving my sons an up grade to the Pentagon MOLLE lights they have been using since the were old enough to remember to turn them off for Christmas. Prior to that, they each had little button lights with a pressure switch.

Anyway, we had an incident a month or so where I overreacted to the loss of the younger boys Pentagon on a family adventure. I felt bad enough that I ended up giving the boys their lights early. They have been loving life since as the new lights are substantially brighter then what they had. The bright colors seem to be a big hit too. Just for reference, my sons are 8 & 11, so I don’t see why those lights wouldn’t work for a responsible 7 year old. That said, I do check that the lights are off and on their night stands before I turn in.

Since we are in the middle of the so called Frankenstorm, the are pocketing the 68s as I type.

My friends three year old daughter took over his Fenix LD20 six months ago. He had to buy himself a new torch.

I’m waiting for a Sipik from DinoDirect to give to a friend’s 10 year old son. Well, I gotta check it out first, never having had one, don’t I? Come on, of course I do.

I like the blue Sipik.. blue is his favorite color. :D

Is lightscastle trustworthy? Genuine Sipiks (if that even exists)? Any coupon?

Yeah, they have a few representatives on BLF.

Sipiks have an assault bezel, you may need t hem to get Foy-anized
